Description

Here at RK Motors Charlotte we sell A LOT of first generation Chevrolet Camaros. In our current inventory, we have many numbers matching, investment grade cars that are perfectly suited for trailering to shows and sitting in museums. However, as much as we enjoy historic pieces that appear as though they've been stuck in a time capsule for 40 years, we're also red-blooded car enthusiasts who love selling cars that can actually be driven and enjoyed as they were originally intended. And with its awesome Black and Hugger Orange color combination, ground pounding 572 cubic inch engine, and highly detailed appearance modifications, this 1969 Camaro pro-tourer will turn driving your muscle car from a hobby into an obsession! If you're looking for some classic Detroit metal that wraps exceptional drivability in one of the best looking packages to ever roll onto American streets, this is your car!

By the looks of this killer Camaro's blinding finish, I'd be surprised if it's logged more than a hundred miles since a complete frame-off restoration. One glance down the car's straight and solid profile reveals that days, and perhaps even months, were put into making sure its build was first-rate in every way. The bodywork is exceptionally clean, with great gaps and accurate panel alignment all around, and the car's uniform quality is proof that someone spent a lot of time making sure everything looked better than new before it went home to its proud owner. When that well-done body was completely smooth and ready for paint, a mirror-like coat of Hugger Orange urethane was blanketed with traditional black rally stripes, sealed under a slick clearcoat shell and wet sanded and buffed to an absolutely brilliant shine. If you've ever restored a classic on your own, you know it literally takes cubic dollars to bring a project to this level.

The best pro-tourers are those which utilize modern technology and customization to enhance the original integrity of an already attractive muscle car design. And this '69 Camaro, with its subtle and carefully planned enhancements, is literally the definition of that logic. At the front of the car, a stainless trimmed and gray painted grille hangs a pristine “Z/28” emblem between correctly detailed headlights and a showroom fresh chrome bumper. Below that bumper, crystal clear parking lights illuminate an optional D80 front spoiler; and above that bumper a familiar “Camaro by Chevrolet” emblem fronts a ZL2 cowl induction hood which features bold “572” engine brandings. At the top of the car new smoked glass, which is cleared by matte stainless wipers, shielded by new chrome drip rails and framed by fresh, dent-free stainless trim, perfectly complements a black vinyl roof. And at the sides of the car, standard stainless rocker moldings and straight stainless wheel well trim parallels new “Camaro” and “Z/28” fender emblems, traditional GM door handles, correct chrome mirrors and fresh Rally Sport quarter louvers. At the back of the car, an optional D80 rear spoiler rides directly behind a “Camaro by Chevrolet” decklid emblem. And clear '69 Camaro exclusive tail lights illuminate a second pristine “Z/28” emblem and a second showroom fresh chrome bumper.

While the exterior enhancements to this slick Camaro seem subtle at first glance, the 572 cubic inch V8 under its hood is anything but! And when the owner decided to bring his vision of the perfect Camaro powerplant to life, he began by spraying all the engines cast surfaces in smooth Chevy Orange paint, fully detailing the car's inner fenders and firewall to match its Hugger Orange body, and covering everything from the core support to the wiper motor with mirror-like chrome accents and highly polished aluminum surfaces. At the top of this chrome monster, air flows from a chrome K&N X-Stream air cleaner into a coated Demon 4-barrel carburetor which is fed by a nice combination of stainless lines and braided hoses. The resulting air fuel mixture makes its way from a chrome, orange detailed high rise intake manifold to polished aluminum heads which ride between chrome plated, “572 Chevrolet” branded valve covers and eight giant cylinders which produce 620 horsepower. Fire for those cylinders comes courtesy of an aftermarket HEI distributor which sends spark across chrome looms via red GM Performance Parts plug wires. And spent gases are handled by a nice pair of ceramic coated long tube headers which connect to a brutal sounding true dual exhaust system. At the front of the block a polished aluminum radiator, which is equipped with a quick spinning electric puller fan that's centered in a body matched Flex-a-lite fan cowl, a polished aluminum “Heartbeat” branded cap and a polished overflow tank, circulates water through chrome corrugated hoses and a chrome thermostat housing. And a modern serpentine system, which is complete with a full set of chrome pulleys and brackets, spins a trick power steering pump next to a chrome alternator, a chrome AC compressor and a polished Edelbrock water pump. Since this Camaro just benefitted from a complete high quality restoration, its engine compartment is exceptionally clean, and thus far, hasn't even had enough time to build up a film on any of its reflective parts. And details like chrome hood hardware, chrome fender braces, a chrome brake booster and master cylinder and body-matched horns add the kind of eyeball appeal that will form crowds and win trophies.

Park this Camaro pro-tourer on a lift and you'll be pleased to find that the restorer's immaculate attention to detail and extreme dedication to performance expand from the engine bay to both the cars clean under carriage and modern suspension. The tweaked and fueled big bore engine powers a stalwart 5-speed transmission which spins a custom fitted rear end that provides enough rotation to virtually lift the car off the ground. Most of this Camaro's double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension is comprised of restored factory hardware; however, the previous owner did see fit to optimize the car's wow factor with the addition of chrome lower control arms, chrome coil springs and a chrome front sway bar. Naturally, a powerful drivetrain like this needs equally powerful opposition for the sake of effective stops, so its hubs were fitted with an efficient four wheel disc brake system which utilizes beefy calipers to squeeze large rotors. At the center of the floor, spent gases flow from the engine's bright long tube headers into a mandrel bent true dual exhaust system which barks a throaty roar thanks to dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers. And at the corners of the floor, traditional 15 inch Rally wheels spin 215/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around pristine stainless trim rings and good looking bowtie branded spinner caps. The car's solid floorpans and fresh undercarriage components have been carefully coated in a fresh layer of GM satin black paint. And small touches like new stainless hardware, a new stainless fuel tank, a gloss black engine cradle and satin finished front shocks provide just the right amount of texture to give the car a professional, finished look.

Open this Camaro's solid doors and you'll find a fully restored Orange Houndstooth interior which is one of the most stylish cockpits to ever roll out of a GM design studio. The completely rebuilt front bucket and rear bench seats feel as firm as the day they left the showroom, and perfectly complement a tight black headliner, like-new black carpet and color-keyed “Z/28” branded floor mats. In front of those seats a straight and crack-free dash hangs a Covan's Classic gauge pod, which is complete with a full set of Auto Meter Carbon Fiber Ultra-Lite gauges, above controls for the car's Vintage Air climate system, deluxe wood trim and fresh aluminum foot pedals. At the sides of those seats, deluxe orange door panels hang pristine stainless trim, new chrome door handles and new chrome window cranks below correct white “Camaro” emblems. And between those seats, a traditional black console props a custom orange armrest behind a chrome and wood trimmed Hurst shifter. In front of the driver, a wood rimmed Lecarra steering wheel spins around a chrome Ididit tilt steering column that's complete with a full set of billet stalks. And behind the cockpit, two Lightning Audio package tray speakers ride above a fully restored trunk which cages the car's traditional top post battery in a slick looking billet box.

If you're in the market for a pavement bruiser that is a blast to show off and even MORE fun to drive, your search is over. This expertly restored 1969 Camaro pro-tourer mixes classic Chevrolet looks with a ton of power and some of the best drivetrain components on the market. Why waste years of your valuable time and strain your bank account on a ground up muscle car build when you can walk right into our showroom, throw down about half the money you were going to spend and experience just how refreshing instant gratification is?
