You may remember this “B5 Blue 1969 Charger 500 HEMI”: http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sales/inventory/sold#!/1969-Dodge-Charger-500/132050 we sold last summer for $259,000. Believe it or not, we've come across the sister car - another B5 Bright Blue Metallic 1969 Charger 500 HEMI originally sold by the same dealership and restored by the same shop (StripMasters, Inc. in Milton, FL). Like its sibling, this Charger was an original Florida car delivered to Massey Dodge in Jacksonville, Florida shortly after leaving the Hamtramck, MI assembly plant in September of 1968. Confirmed by Dave Patik as having only 9,733 original miles, this could be the lowest mileage 500 on the planet! Fresh out of an extensive $150k+ restoration, every inch of this car looks spectacular. Featuring a date code correct 426 Hemi, an A727 3-speed automatic transmission and certification from Galen Govier as one of just 116 Hemi-equipped Charger 500's. From the aggressive stance to the scalloped doors and hood, the '69 Charger has great lines to begin with. This one retains its original doors, roof, deck lid, floors and even quarters. Expertly massaged and sprayed with an even coat of B5 Bright Blue Metallic, this example practically glows. The variant is dead on and all reflections are laser straight. Though this car was ordered with the V88 stripe delete, the stripe was wisely called upon for the restoration. Complete with the integrated 500 logo, it rounds out the back end nicely. Check underneath and you'll see that the paintwork didn't stop at the rockers. Factory style overspray appears over the correct gray primer, further backing up this Charger's showroom fresh look. Naturally panel fitment is excellent with tight even gaps all the way around.

The Charger 500 featured a menacing front end consisting of a black flush-mounted grille and fixed headlights. This Charger's front end looks showroom clean thanks to its fresh chrome grille, headlight bezels and offset Charger 500 logo. Of course, the rest of the trim looks just as good. The stainless wheel well accents have, for once, not been polished to a chrome-like finish. They retain their correct finish and look great over the wheels. All window trim including the massive A-pillar pieces show like new. The Charger 500's featured exclusive flush-mounted rear glass to help keep wind resistance down. That piece as well as all the other glass looks show ready and free of major imperfections. Out back, a fresh chrome bumper looks new underneath the black taillight panel.

Pop the hood latches and you'll be greeted by a bay that has been detailed to the highest standard. Up front, the correct 26-inch radiator with transmission cooler sits behind the factory stamped radiator support. To the right, a Group 27 Red Cap battery maintains the authentic look of the bay. In the center lies the real star of the show – the 426 Hemi. Built by Eddie Hillman of Hillman Motorsports and carrying a casting number of 2468330 and a date code of 4-15-1968, the numbers make sense given the car's September 1968 build date. While not the original engine, great care has been taken to keep presentation as accurate as possible. Naturally the big pieces such as the wrinkle finish valve covers and correct chrome air cleaner cover are in place but the small touches are present as well. From the reproduction hoses to the engine paint overspray on the ground terminal, all bases have been covered when it comes to authenticity. The best part is that it also starts and performs like a Hemi should. Idle is unusually smooth and takes very little poking and prodding. The exhaust note that carries through the cast iron manifolds and factory style exhaust is simply one of the best sounds a stock American V8 can produce.

Backing that legendary mill is a date code correct A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission that was also fully rebuilt and fully sorted by Eddie Hillman. Though an auto Hemi may seem counterintuitive, the date code correct A32 Super Performance Axle Package packed with 4.10 gears ensures that launches will still be a handful. When it comes time to slow down, you'll be assisted by power front disc brakes with drums in the rear. Suspension is comprised of an original factory front torsion bar setup with original leaf springs keeping the back end in line. At the corners, 15” Magnum wheels are wrapped in red line Firestone tires for the correct vintage look. Take a closer look at the undercarriage shots and note the amount of detail present on the chassis. Few cars strike the balance of show-worthy and driver-friendly like this Charger.

Open the elongated doors and you'll be greeted by a showroom fresh blue vinyl interior which was installed by the experts at Sun Coast Creations. In the 1960s, Chrysler was still in their luxury phase and it shows in the design of this cabin. From the driver's seat, the wood rimmed three spoke steering wheel extends beyond the well thought out dash. To the far left, controls for lights, flashers and a dimmer for the instrument panel are tucked into neat rectangular housings. Directly in front of the wheel lies the optional Tic-Toc-Tach and the speedometer/odometer that shows under 10,000 miles total. To the right, smaller gauges keep an eye on fuel, temperature, oil pressure and alternator. There are also controls for the 3-speed wipers with electric washers. In the center the Music Master AM radio remains in its home with climate and defroster controls directly above. Everything from the headliner to the carpet is either new or restored and shows incredibly well.

Documentation includes a full Galen Govier report done before the restoration verifying the car to be a true Hemi-equipped Charger 500. A November 2011 letter from StripMasters Inc which documents the car's full owner history. And a large and comprehensive pile of receipts documenting the $150k+ investment it took to return the car to this condition.
