Description

Our RK Motors Charlotte showroom is home to some of the coolest muscle cars on the planet, and we've built our reputation on bringing you the best Mopars money can buy. Usually, when we talk about a member of the 60s Chrysler family, we're introducing a factory correct Hemi showpiece that'll serve more time as a trailer queen than a road warrior. In fact, it seems pretty odd to see the words “Mopar” and “pro-tourer” in the same sentence because cars like this stunning 1969 Road Runner are usually restored into red rope collector fodder. But this Plymouth, envisioned by its owner as the perfect mix of classic muscle car attitude and first class modern performance, is one of the finest Mopar pro-tourers we've ever featured! Professionally built from its custom suspension and 500 cubic inch, Hemi killing stroker motor to its two-tone interior and one piece billet aluminum wheels, this car is both dangerously fast and brutally appealing. If you're looking for a bad to the bone classic that's fun to look at, a blast to drive and priced so well you'll have to pinch yourself, we have your car!

This Road Runner's complete rotisserie restoration began when Steve Koepke of Classic Ventures in Woodstock, Illinois meticulously stripped its solid original body, welded up a set of high quality quarters and block sanded every one of its facets until he had a smooth, consistent canvas. Once that canvas was fully prepped from top to bottom, a slick coat of Charcoal Gray urethane was expertly applied under bright red, horizontal pin stripes and buffed to the kind of brilliant wet-look shine that can only be achieved with today's advanced paint technology. Take one look down the sides of this old-school Plymouth and you'll see a tough, slab-sided body which has been straightened and finessed far past anything that rolled out of the factory in 1969. Pull the car into the sunlight and its glossy urethane paint accurately reproduces Chrysler's planar, straight lines all the while protecting them under a tough and durable clearcoat shell. All that staring and comparing adds up to one super slick Mopar muscle car which wraps brutal performance in killer good looks!

With its subtle details and updated appearance, I suspect this Road Runner will be one of those unique classics which someone sees, falls in love with and buys right off the showroom floor. At the front of the car, a body-width stainless trimmed grille rides between four clear headlights, a good looking chrome bumper and clear, square parking lights. Above that grille the car's smooth gray hood, which wears two hood scoops that hang subtle “440” emblems below bright red mesh, flows toward limo-tinted glass which is cleared by satin stainless wipers, shielded by chrome drip rails and framed by fresh stainless trim. Below that glass, multi-faceted body panels, which add an unmistakable vintage flavor to the car's design, are detailed with pristine chrome mirrors, traditional chrome door handles, clear square marker lights and dent-free stainless wheel well trim. And at the back of the car, a sculpted trunk lid closes tight between traditional silver trimmed tail lights, a second body-width chrome bumper and polished stainless exhaust tips.

Raise the wide, Charcoal hood and you'll find a killer 500 cubic inch monster block which takes this Mopar from 'very appealing' to 'MUST HAVE' almost as fast as it'll take its driver from 'confident' to 'scared stiff'. At the top of that engine, a simple chrome breather funnels wind from a re-usable filter element to a giant Demon 850 carburetor that's juiced by fresh stainless fuel lines. At the base of that carburetor, an Indy dual plane intake sends a rich air/fuel mixture into aluminum Indy 440EZ-1 cylinder heads that are equipped with both Crane Cams hydraulic roller lifters and Harland Sharp roller rocker arms. Those heads are bolted to a familiar 440 block that's been bored 0.30 over and equipped with a complete Eagle stroker kit which includes an Eagle steel crank, Eagle H-beam connecting rods, SRP pistons with Speed Pro rings and Clevite bearings. The car's massive 11 to 1 compression is managed by a Competition hydraulic roller camshaft that's hooked to a Cloyes timing chain. And spent gases are efficiently expelled through a slick set of TTI ceramic coated long tube headers. Fire is supplied by an MSD Pro-billet distributor which shoots sparks through high performance Taylor plug wires. And cooling comes courtesy of a heavy duty aluminum radiator which sits in front of two quick spinning electric puller fans. The car's Charcoal engine bay is exceptionally impressive from its smoothed fenders and stylish Wilwood master cylinder all the way to its textured aluminum valve covers and purple 'Beep-Beep' horn. And the big, fully detailed engine is covered in top notch ancillary components, pushes roughly 500 horsepower and is spectacular in every measurable way!

This Road Runner definitely has the performance to back up its sinister good looks. And with the awesome Chrysler big block's excellent low end power, you can rest assured the car's undercarriage is chock-full of some of the best pro-touring hardware on the market. Behind the big bore engine you'll find a slick shifting Centerforce hydraulic clutch that's connected to a Tremec 5-speed transmission and a stalwart Ford nine inch limited slip rear end which is complete with a Strange aluminum center section, Strange axle shafts and new 3.73 gears. Naturally, the car's old-school front torsion bar and rear leaf spring suspension has been exchanged for a more competent independent front, four link rear set up. And that new suspension is augmented with tubular control arms, a thick front sway bar, adjustable QA1 coil over shocks, fresh power rack and pinion steering and a Wilwood brake system which includes 11 inch slotted discs at all four corners. At the center of the car, a free-flowing three inch aluminized exhaust system sends spent gases through an H-pipe crossover to dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers and pristine stainless tips. And custom fabricated, and custom welded, subframe connectors ensure the buff engine's ample torque doesn't manifest itself as unfortunate twist. Power flows to the ground through a sweet set of 18 inch, solid aluminum Magnum 500 replicas which have been polished, detailed with flat black paint, and wrapped in aggressive 245/40 front and 285/40 rear BF Goodrich G-Force T/A radials. The car's restored original floors have been coated in the same Charcoal Gray urethane that you'll find on both its exterior panels and inner fenders; and everything from its painted stainless fuel tank and custom oil pan to its braided brake hoses and aftermarket transmission crossmember present just as well as when they rolled out of the restoration shop.

Open this Plymouth's big, solid doors and sit down inside a cockpit where the timeless good looks of American muscle meld seamlessly with tasteful upgrades and modern conveniences. The custom leather and suede seats, which were supplied by Addison Auto Interiors of Addison, Illinois, are firm and feel much more upscale than traditional Mopar hardware. At the bottom of those seats, fresh Maroon carpet props a chrome Hurst shifter under a faux carbon fiber pistol grip handle; and at the top of those seats, a tight black headliner frames a fully functional dome light. In front of the seats the car's pristine Maroon dash hangs a custom gauge panel, which is complete with stylish Auto Meter American Muscle gauges, beside a remote controlled Kenwood CD player and traditional buttons for the car's heat and air conditioning system. And at the sides of the seats, custom Maroon and Black door panels hang pliable armrests between fresh stainless trim, new chrome window cranks and bright chrome door handles. In front of the driver, a familiar Mopar Tuff Wheel spins around a rebuilt original steering column. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk features both a new floor pan and virtually a mile of spotless Charcoal paint.

Included with the sale of this awesome Road Runner is a CD full of detailed restoration photos and a stack of restoration receipts which includes an itemized breakdown of all the car's engine work.

This '69 Road Runner has it all: looks to kill, power that never stops and a list of custom components that would take a builder years to duplicate and assemble. It's fast, comfortable, stylish, and when you take one look at the quality of its workmanship, you realize the cost of building a pro-tourer to this level is about twice what it takes to drive this Mopar right out of our showroom. If you're in the market for some reliable, old school muscle that you can enjoy for years to come, this broad shouldered Plymouth is just the car you've been looking for!
