Spawned from General Motor's popular GMT400 truck platform, Chevy's awesome 454 SS was essentially designed for two things: looking good and going fast! During its relatively short time on the market the truck built a significant fan base of enthusiasts who enjoy everything from hot nights at the drag strip to air conditioned afternoons on the turntable. Not long after this low mileage 454 SS one-and-only owner purchased it new, he entered a small Tennessee car show and walked away with impressive second place honors. Eventually that owner, a long-time car guy, decided to get much more serious about showing his beloved truck and executed a five year build which transformed a production line rarity into a magazine featured marvel. Today, 'Bad Apple's square, dent-free panels present laser-straight gaps which are narrow and exact. Its custom pieces blend seamlessly with its solid factory body. And its original GM code 74 Victory Red basecoat/clearcoat looks rich and glossy thanks to a thorough cut, a professional polish and years of spectacular maintenance.

There's much to be said about the innate appeal of a clean Chevy truck. And when that classic look is combined with this pristine 454 SS exceptional attention to detail, it creates one jaw-dropping showpiece which radiates both top-notch build quality and first-rate trophy technique. At the front of the truck a new Hunters billet grille, which provides an attractive 1994-era Chevrolet crossbar update, is framed by a crystal clear HID headlights, a completely smoothed bumper and a slick, body-matched spoiler. Above that grille, a Hunters custom cowl induction hood flows to a body-matched cowl vent, like-new factory glass and a Snugtop locking bed cover. Below that hood, a monochromatic profile is formed by clean side panels which are accented with body-matched aero-style mirrors, painted door handles and a billet, red-detailed antenna. And at the back of the truck, pristine factory tail lights hang custom slotted covers above a hidden LED brake light, a custom Hunters roll pan and polished square exhaust tips.

Pop the hood on this red bowtie masterpiece and you'll find an original 454 cubic inch GEN V V8 which creates a stout 255 horsepower and a whopping 405 lb./ft. of torque! In an era where big block mills seemed like a relic of bygone days, this lightweight 7.4 liter land rocket was Chevrolet's way of introducing the thrill of bottomless big displacement power to a whole new generation of car enthusiasts. And thanks to a solid driveline and correct gearing this truck, unlike most of its muscle car predecessors, is an on-demand performer which exhibits civil, uncompromised road manners. At the top of the ground and cherried block, a chrome Street and Performance tuned port injection system sucks air through a re-usable filter element and sends it, along with a steady stream of 93 octane fuel, into a factory intake manifold. At the sides of the block, polished aluminum Edelbrock heads hang ball milled valve covers over custom wire looms, high performance Taylor plug wires and polished Edelbrock headers. And at the front of the block, a chrome Street and Performance serpentine system spins a chrome alternator, a chrome AC compressor and a chrome power steering pump above a great sounding Comp Cams roller cam. Cooling is provided by a heavy duty radiator that's complete with a chrome upper support, polished stainless lines, a chrome overflow tank and a quick spinning electric puller fan. Fire is provided by completely hidden wiring that's run behind custom mirrored fender panels. And aesthetically, the truck's super clean engine bay carries the phrase 'if it ain't painted, it's polished' to a mind boggling combination of mirror-like ancillary pieces and Victory Red detailing! Literally everything from this Chevy's chrome hood latch and red trimmed battery box to its chrome freeze plugs and red trimmed master cylinder is 100% ready for the show field! And, since this big engine displays just enough mileage for its first oil change, I'd be willing to bet nothing, aside from its dipsticks and fluid caps, has ever been touched for the sake of maintenance or repair.

Dropped four inches in the front and six inches in the rear by high performance Belltech lowering components, this buff pickup features a buckled down stance that perfectly complements its sporty engine and killer good looks. Throw it up on a lift and you'll find Victory Red floors which are bolted to a smoothed and painted frame, a complete set of chrome brackets and a completely show-chromed undercarriage that comes courtesy of S&H Chrome in Madison, Tennessee. Behind the brawny big block, an original 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission sends power through a chrome driveshaft to a rugged locking differential that's complete with factory 4.10 gears, a smooth casing and a chrome inspection cover. At the front of the truck, power steering is a welcome addition under the cast iron block's added weight. And at the corners of the truck, power front disc and rear drum brakes, which have been completely chromed from their drilled rotors to their rear hubs, tell the story of limited road use and an acute attention to detail. This 454 SS tough and proven double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension is built around chrome control arms, chrome coil springs, a chrome sway bar, chrome shocks and chrome, unretained leaves. Spent gases flow to a polished Magnaflow muffler via a Performance Concepts polished stainless exhaust system. Power flows through awesome 20 inch polished Billet Specialties wheels to sticky 245/40 front and 295/40 rear BF Goodrich Comp T/A radials. And the bottom of this strictly-for-show 454 SS is so clean and pristine you'll be on eBay shopping for undercarriage mirrors the same day you park it in your garage!

Inside the truck, GM's standard Garnet Red cockpit has been exchanged for a light and airy Bone environment which was installed by well-known hot rod enthusiast Paul Atkins. Centered in that environment is a set of firm and smooth Griffin bucket seats which show virtually no wear at all. In front of those seats a factory dash, which has been completely re-dyed, props a factory stereo, factory gauges and a 6,000 RPM tachometer inside a whole catalogue of stylish billet trim. At the sides of the truck, custom leather door panels hang factory handles and custom armrests above subtle Paul Atkins sill plates. At the floor, high quality Mercedes loop carpet anchors a remote controlled Kenwood CD changer inside a custom leather console. And on the roof, a custom leather headliner frames a 1996-era factory overhead console, fresh leather sun visors and a functioning factory dome light. In front of the driver, a Budnik billet steering wheel spins a color-keyed rim around a factory tilt steering column, a billet shift lever and chrome accessory stalks. And behind the cab, a bright and airy cargo box is completely upholstered and professionally finished to exactly mimic the truck's striking Bone interior.
