Description

Even in the world of classic muscle cars few vehicles are as coveted as Plymouth's mighty Cuda. From its wide stance and all-American sheetmetal to its distinct V8 rumble and familiar 'hockey stick' war paint, Plymouth's star pony car screams for attention, demands respect and pulls big premiums. Now, what do you get when you take an already cool 340/4-speed car, re-spray it in Chrysler's high impact Lime Light Green paint, drop a completely rebuilt, highly authentic Hemi under its hood and top everything off with a $150K restoration? You get this spectacular Hemicuda tribute which looks every bit as good as a numbers matching car, has the same amount of fans as a numbers matching car, and costs about half the money. Are you one of the countless enthusiasts who wants some top dog Mopar muscle that you can actually drive and enjoy? This expertly restored Cuda is precisely what you've been looking for!

The beneficiary of a highly detailed frame-off restoration which looks so fresh it could've been completed just last week, this virtually new 1970 Plymouth Cuda's refurbished panels and Chrysler code FJ5 Lime Light Green paint are as crisp as a fall morning at the local drag strip. The car's top notch rebuild began with a solid original body that was put on a rotisserie, stripped and massaged to better-than-new condition. Once that body's clean panels were correctly aligned, and the car's intimidating slab-sided ambiance was fully reconstructed, a slick coat of two-stage urethane was expertly applied under traditional black Hemi side stripes and buffed to an incredible shine. The result is one spectacular looking pavement pounder which serves as an absolutely glowing reminder of just how crazy the muscle car era was!

Thanks to its high dollar frame-off nut and bolt restoration, this bright green showstopper's crisp shut lines and spectacular panel alignment present much better today than when it rolled off the showroom floor almost 42 years ago. At the front of the car, an NOS redline grille and NOS headlight bezels hang crystal clear headlights above an elastomeric bumper and correct chrome trimmed driving lights. At the top of the car a familiar, “hemicuda” branded shaker hood props two stainless pins in front of like-new glass which is bordered by pristine stainless trim, showroom fresh chrome drip rails and retro window louvers. At the sides of the car, correct chrome mirrors and familiar satin-finish door handles ride above dent-free wheel lip mouldings and hand detailed rocker gills. And at the back of the car, a traditional satin black rear valence hangs like-new tail lights and a cool silver “'cuda” emblem between a second elastomeric bumper, correct stainless exhaust tips and a textured decklid spoiler. With its broad shouldered styling and killer visual appeal, no one is going to argue that this impressive old Mopar isn't a full-blooded American muscle car!

Pull the pins on this Cuda's solid steel hood and you'll find a professionally rebuilt 426 cubic inch Hemi V8 that's been bored .040 over and topped with a correct Argent Silver air cleaner and two correct Carter AFB carburetors. As Chrysler's top option for power hungry gearheads, this legendary 1966 elephant block utilizes correct cast iron heads, an Eagle 4340 forged steel crank, Eagle 4340 forged steel connecting rods, Keith Black pistons, a Mopar Performance Street Hemi hydraulic cam and a Comp Cams double roller timing set to turn stout 10.25 to 1 compression into roughly 425 horsepower and 490 lb./ft. of torque! Those heads have been rebuilt with Mopar Performance lifters, Mopar Performance rods, Comp Cams springs and stainless steel valves. That crank is fitted with Federal Mogul main bearings. Those rods are connected to Clevite 77 rod bearings via high quality ARP fasteners. And those pistons are equipped with a full set of slick Speed-Pro rings. All that high performance hardware is housed in a glossy Hemi Orange block which hangs an attractive set of powder wrinkle coated valve covers above correct low restriction exhaust manifolds. That compression is sparked by fresh Chrysler Electronic Suppression plug wires which are snapped onto a traditional points distributor. And those cylinders are cooled by an authentic 959 radiator which comes complete with new Chrysler hoses, tight squeeze clamps and a reproduction fan shroud. Aesthetically, the engine bay of this stellar Mopar is in brilliant, show-ready condition featuring immaculate detailing and correct finishes throughout. And naturally, all the little details like a tagged Mopar red cap battery, a Hemi-specific brake booster and master cylinder, correct pulleys, and even an old school Chrysler voltage regulator have been accurately duplicated or completely restored.

This 'Cudas solid floors and fully restored chassis are just as clean and straight forward as its brilliant exterior panels and highly correct engine bay. The pavement splitting Hemi churns its power through a new McLeod clutch which spins a professionally rebuilt A833 18 spline 4-speed transmission, a tough Dana 60 Sure Grip rear end and stout 3.54 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a correct Hemi K-member and a traditional front torsion bar, rear leaf spring suspension. Stops come courtesy of correct, heavy duty power front disc and rear drum brakes. Turns are handled by a retrofitted power steering system. And spent gases are funneled through an H-pipe crossover to factory replacement mufflers, factory correct resonators and spotless stainless exhaust tips. At the corners of the car, restored 15 inch Rallye wheels spin fresh 255/60 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around pristine stainless trim rings and correct gray center caps. And aesthetically, the bottom of this cool Plymouth is fully detailed and ready for show with niceties such as a new Mopar Performance Street Hemi oil pan, a new Melling high performance oil pump, a chrome rear end cover and a fresh stainless fuel tank all present and accounted for.

From a writer's perspective, Cuda interiors are always hard to talk about because they're so straight forward and simple. From an enthusiast's point of view, that's the way it should be. After all, these cars were built to kick ass on the street, not provide fodder for a keyboard. Fortunately, this Cuda can do both with a new Legendary vinyl cockpit that is second to none! The driver and passenger high-back bucket and rear bench seats are showroom fresh and show no signs of any wear at all. Below those seats, new carpet rides under chrome trimmed foot pedals and color-keyed, “'cuda” branded floor mats; and above those seats, a taut and wrinkle-free headliner stretches across a fully functional dome light and cleverly stored shoulder belts. On the doors, new molded panels proudly hold the 'Cuda name above bright chrome locks and handles. In front of the driver rebuilt Rallye gauges, which include both an optional tachometer and continuous motion clock, ride between a familiar Mopar Tuff Wheel and a correct pushbutton radio. And at the center of the car, a Hurst pistol grip shifter works good and looks great. Behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk holds a new mat below a correct spare tire, a full jack assembly and a correctly decaled decklid; and everything from this 'Cudas freshly tagged sun visors to its chrome sill plates is fully sorted and ready to hit the road!

Included with the sale of this fully detailed Plymouth is a small stack of itemized receipts for its fresh engine build, photos of the engine during that build, and literature for the car's high quality McLeod clutch.

Fully restored, and highly accurate in every way, this '70 Plymouth is guaranteed to please even the most discerning muscle car enthusiast. And with its great performance and classic good looks, you can drive it, show it and even take home a few trophies all for about half the price of a 'ropes and red carpet' car. If you're looking for an awesome old school Mopar that you can actually enjoy, this Cuda is your kind of car!
