Description

Our RK Motors Charlotte showroom is home to some of the coolest muscle cars on the planet and, for the past several years, we've built our reputation on bringing you the best Mopars money can buy. Usually, when we talk about a member of the 70s Chrysler family, we're introducing a factory correct HEMI showpiece that'll serve more time as a trailer queen than a road warrior. But this stunning Plymouth 'Cuda, envisioned by its owner as the perfect mix of classic muscle car attitude and first class modern performance, gives new meaning to the words “Mopar” and “resto-mod”. Professionally built from its reinforced suspension and 528 cubic inch Hemi big block to its two-tone interior and slick Billet Specialties wheels, this topless E-Body is both dangerously fast and brutally appealing. If you're looking for a bad to the bone classic that's fun to look at, a blast to drive and priced so well you'll have to pinch yourself, we have your car!

This cool 'Cuda's complete rotisserie restoration began when its solid convertible body was meticulously stripped, carefully massaged and thoroughly block sanded into a smooth, consistent canvas. Once that canvas was fully prepped, a bright coat of Rallye Red urethane was expertly sealed in a thick clearcoat shell and buffed to a brilliant, wet-look shine. Take one look down the body of this old-school Plymouth and you'll see tough, slab-sided panels which have been straightened and finessed far past anything that rolled out of the factory in 1971. Pull the car into the sunlight and its glossy glow accurately reproduces Chrysler's planar, straight lines all the while offering a level of protection that can only be achieved with today's advanced paint technology. Get up close and personal with its finish and all your staring and comparing will add up to one super slick Mopar muscle car which wraps brutal performance in killer good looks!

With its subtle details and updated appearance, I suspect this Plymouth will be one of those unique classics which someone sees, falls in love with and buys right off the showroom floor. At the front of the car, an attractive multiport grille hangs four 1971-exclusive halogen headlights above a Rallye Red bumper, familiar chrome road lamps and flush-fitting parking lights. At the top of the car, a modified fresh air hood props stainless hood pins, a small chrome “PLYMOUTH” script and a “hemicuda” branded shaker in front of like-new glass that's framed by fresh stainless trim and capped by a clean white top. At the sides of the car, 1971-exclusive fender gills and optional body-matched racing mirrors ride above satin-finished door handles, traditional wheel well mouldings and dent-free rocker spears. And at the back of the car, a traditional flat black valence hangs 1971-exclusive tail lights between an optional decklid wing, a second Rallye Red bumper and correct stainless exhaust tips.

Raise the wide red hood and you'll find a killer 528 cubic inch HEMI monster block which takes this Mopar from 'very appealing' to 'MUST HAVE' almost as fast as it'll take its driver from 'confident' to 'scared stiff'. At the top of that engine, a silver trimmed shaker scoop funnels wind into two 4-barrel Edelbrock Endurashine carburetors that are juiced by an Aeromotive fuel pump and monitored by a fender-mounted Aeromotive pressure gauge. At the base of those carburetors, a high performance aluminum intake sends a rich air/fuel mixture into Indy aluminum cylinder heads that are capped with aluminum, “528 HEMI” branded valve covers. That air/fuel mixture is sparked by an MSD ignition system via an NRC offset distributor and red MSD Super Conductor plug wires. The resultant combustion is cooled by a custom polished aluminum radiator that's set in front of a large electric puller fan and a billet thermostat housing. And spent gases are efficiently expelled through a slick set of TTI ceramic coated long tube headers. The car's Rallye Red engine bay is exceptionally impressive from its Billet Specialties TruTrac accessory drive and stylish Red Boar master cylinder all the way to its braided hoses and trick dip sticks. And the big, fully detailed engine is covered in top notch ancillary components, pushes roughly 750 horsepower and is spectacular in every measurable way!

Take one look under this beefed up Mopar and you'll see that it certainly has the performance to back up its sinister good looks. Behind the big bore engine you'll find a slick shifting A727 Torqueflite automatic transmission that's sandwiched between a 10 inch torque converter, a custom-built driveshaft and a Moser Dana 60 Posi-traction rear end that spins stout 3.71 gears. Naturally, the car's old-school front torsion bar and rear leaf spring suspension has been completely rebuilt and thoroughly reinforced. And that stronger suspension is augmented with a full set of Edelbrock IAS shocks, a full set of 'firm feel' sway bars, fast ratio power steering, a 'firm feel' steering box and Brembo disc brakes at all four corners. At the center of the car, a free-flowing three inch aluminized exhaust system sends spent gases through an H-pipe crossover to wicked Magnaflow mufflers and pristine stainless tips. And custom fabricated, and custom welded, subframe connectors ensure the buff engine's ample torque doesn't manifest itself as unfortunate twist. The car's power flows to the ground through a sweet set of Billet Specialties Apex G wheels which spin 245/40R17 Goodyear Eagle F1 radials in front of 265/40R18 Goodyear Eagle F1 radials. Its fully restored floors have been coated in the same Rallye Red urethane that you'll find on both its exterior panels and inner fenders. And everything from its fresh stainless fuel tank and heavy duty oil pan to its braided brake hoses and aftermarket transmission crossmember present just as well as when they rolled out of the restoration shop.

Open this Plymouth's big, solid doors and sit down inside a cockpit where the timeless good looks of American muscle meld seamlessly with tasteful upgrades and modern conveniences. The custom vinyl and leather seats, which were supplied by Ridgefield Auto Upholstery of Ridgefield, Connecticut, are firm and feel much more upscale than traditional Mopar hardware. At the bottom of those seats, fresh black carpet anchors a traditional Chrysler T-shifter in the middle of a wood-trimmed factory console and color-keyed 'Cuda floor mats. At the sides of those seats, bright white door panels hang stain-free armrests between fresh stainless trim, new chrome window cranks and bright chrome door handles. At the front of the cockpit, a great looking dash hangs a familiar Rallye gauge cluster above a traditional Chrysler Solid State AM radio. In front of the driver, a wood rimmed steering wheel spins a Barracuda branded horn button around a modified, original steering column. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk holds a new mat below a correct spare tire and a full jack assembly.

This drop-top 'Cuda has it all: looks to kill, power that never stops and a list of custom components that would take a builder years to duplicate and assemble. It's fast, comfortable, stylish, and when you take one look at the quality of its workmanship, you realize the cost of building a custom to this level is about twice what it takes to drive this Mopar right out of our showroom. If you're in the market for some reliable, old school muscle that you can enjoy for years to come, this broad shouldered Plymouth is just the car you've been looking for!
