Description

I know what you're thinking... You glanced at the picture of this classy Standard Six and immediately thought it was just another really nice fiberglass Ford that's built for a laid back car guy and ranks of lazy summer car shows. It's okay. Really… Since we've all probably seen a hundred 30-something Fords for every one of these Chevys it has, until now, become very difficult to think outside the box. Built for the enthusiast who wants to expand his mind past the 'ordinary' shapes of Ford street rods and their tongue-in-cheek Chevrolet powerplants, this stunning coupe features a solid all-steel body and traditional Milano Red paint that'll be right at home at all those lazy summer car shows. AND, thanks to its proven GM Performance Parts V8 and comfortable leather interior, it'll also make the perfect companion for cross-country road trips. If you're in the market for something that's a bit different than all those run-of-the-mill street rods, this awesome '36 Chevy is a fantastic choice!

This hot Chevy's smooth and solid body began life as an everyday Sixer that stayed free of accidents and catastrophic damage for over 70 years. When its current owner took possession he promptly executed a complete frame-off restoration, and professional street rod build, that totaled roughly $70K. And finally, after multiple years and hundreds of hours of labor, the car began to display proper vertical panels and an exceptionally aligned profile under a great looking coat of traditional Milano Red paint. Today, with virtually no imperfections, this coupe is a banner showpiece that celebrates both eight decades of carefully calculated care by serious car guys, and the integrity of Chevrolet's high quality products!

When I'm at a street rod show amid the sea of brightly colored, over-the-top creations, I often find myself asking: “Was Ford the only manufacturer of pre-war American classics?” And then, seemingly out of nowhere, a well-done Chevrolet rolls through and quells any doubts I had about the segments apparent lack of variety. Wrapping a unique profile in top notch trim and intricate detail work, this awesome 5-window is a first class custom that can be driven cross-country OR displayed on the local show field. At the front of its body, a painted steel grille rides inside a classy, chrome-trimmed shell which props a small hood ornament above original headlights and a pristine chrome bumper. Behind that grille a full, 4-piece bonnet flows to the base of bronze-tinted glass; and at the sides of that grille, the typical clean and simple profile which defines classic street rods is accented by chrome hood pulls, correct chrome door handles, small billet mirrors and a classic “BODY by FISHER” tag. At the top of the car, you'll find an old school divided windscreen that's been trimmed in chrome and fitted with opposing stainless windshield wipers. And out back, a flush-mount center high mount stop lamp hangs above a flush-mount power antenna, a second pristine chrome bumper, awesome “CHEVROLET” branded tail lights and traditional stainless exhaust tips.

Take a gander under this Standard Six's hinged steel hood and you'll find out exactly where tradition ends and muscle begins! Designed and assembled by the experts at General Motor's own GM Performance Parts aftermarket entity, this coupe's fresh 350 cubic inch ZZ4 crate motor creates a stout 355 horsepower and 405 lb./ft. of dust swirling torque. At the top of that proven small block, a color-keyed, Cadillac-style air cleaner utilizes front –mount wind wings to funnel oxygen into a reliable and precise Edelbrock Weber Endurashine carburetor. That air and fuel is then passed through a high performance aluminum intake to high performance aluminum heads which are ignited by a familiar HEI distributor via bright red GM Performance Parts plug wires. The resultant gases are jettisoned through a slick set of Sanderson block hugger headers while the small block's cylinders are simultaneously cooled by a high quality Walker radiator and a quick spinning electric pusher fan. The cam keeps spinning thanks to a smooth March serpentine system which hangs a color-keyed flex fan just in front of a polished alternator and a body-matched AC compressor. The compliments keep flowing thanks to a highly detailed, well-executed engine bay which is very impressive to look at. And everything from the car's bowtie branded looms and red, center-bolt valve covers to its braided fuel line and polished radiator cap is set up to be as impressive as it is enjoyable!

Underneath this cool cruiser you'll find a modern chassis that's fully sorted and ready to hit the road. At the center of the car a rugged GM Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission, which is equipped with both a shift kit and a 2,200 RPM stall converter, spins a stout Ford nine inch rear end that's stuffed with mild 3.00 gears. At the front of the car, a Fat Man Mustang II suspension is augmented by both an easy twisting power rack and pinion steering system and modern tubular control arms. And at the corners of the car, fresh brake lines shuttle fluid to silver Wilwood calipers which hang on dramatic two inch drop spindles. All this street rod's excellent drivetrain and suspension components are bolted to an original box-girder frame which has been powder coated and sandwiched between stainless hardware and clean, body-matched floorpans. A killer soundtrack is provided by a 2.5 inch true dual exhaust system which features great sounding turbo mufflers. Power flows to the pavement through a sweet set of 17 inch American Racing Torq Thrust IIs which spin 215/45 front and 255/55 rear Goodyear Eagle LS radials around bullet-shaped center caps. And everything from this Chevy's finned transmission cooler to its red rear sway bar is 100% detailed and ready for show.

Unlatch this awesome custom's solid-closing doors and you'll find a spectacular beige leather interior that is definitely one of the main highlights of the car. Plush GM seats, which feature power operation for the driver, perch on high quality tan carpet that's been outlined with beige leather piping. In front of those seats, an eggshell painted dash hangs a full set of Classic Instruments gauges beside controls for the car's Vintage Air climate system and a glove box-mounted Eclipse CD player. At the sides of those seats, power windows and sculpted leather door panels, which come complete with billet door handles, perfectly complement custom leather side panels that conceal great sounding kick panel speakers. Above those seats, a custom headliner begins at a stylish rearview mirror and flows all the way back to the base of car's tinted rear window. In front of the driver, a GM-style Ididit tilt steering column makes the most of a banjo-style steering wheel and a full set of billet stalks. And at the back of the cockpit, a modern CD changer rides in front of a fully-finished trunk that features a covered spare tire and enough storage space for a short weekend getaway.

Professionally built at a cost that almost doubles our base price, this slick '36 Chevy is simply spectacular in person! It combines top notch craftsmanship with a whole roster of fully sorted performance hardware that's ready to hit the road tomorrow. If you're the kind of guy who likes to buck fashion trends, especially at a traditional, brand dominated gathering, this finely-tailored bowtie is just the piece to spice up your next outing!
