Corvette E-Ray Buyers Camp Overnight In Front Of NH Dealership
Customers eager to place an order for the new 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray camped overnight outside MacMulkin Chevrolet in New Hampshire on January 30th, braving nighttime temperatures in the teens to lay claim to their copy of GM’s first-ever hybrid-powered Vette.
MacMulkin Chevrolet, located at 3 Marmon Drive in Nashua, New Hampshire, was the first U.S. dealership GM allowed to start taking orders for the 2024 Corvette E-Ray. The General gave MacMulkin Chevrolet that distinction because it was the country’s #1 selling Corvette dealership in 2022.
People came from across the country to wait outside MacMulkin Chevrolet to place their order on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, WMUR reports. The eager buyers set up tents outside the dealership, complete with mattresses, blankets, and space heaters to ward off the cold. Some referred to the Corvette E-Ray’s status as the fastest Corvette yet as the motivation for being among the first to place orders.
MacMulkin Chevrolet accepts only personal checks or certified checks as deposits for the 2024 Corvette E-Ray. It does not accept cash or wire transfers according to its website. The dealership limits deposits to one per person, per household, with the deposits refundable until the order is placed with allocation.
Customers wanting to get on the deposit list need a check in the amount of $4,000, photocopies of both sides of a valid driver’s license, a signed terms and conditions sheet, and a filled-out contact information sheet. MacMulkin notes 2024 Chevy Corvette C8 E-Ray deposits can’t be transferred between individuals.
The 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray, which debuted on January 17th, checks the boxes on a number of “firsts.” Not only is it the first hybrid Corvette, it is also the first version of the nameplate to feature all-wheel drive (AWD) and the first to have front-wheel drive – technically, at least. The E-Ray features a front-mounted electric motor powering the front axles, and with Stealth Mode enabled, the hybrid Vette can drive at up to 45 mph using the electrically powered front wheels alone.
A naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2, the same engine found under the hood of the C8 Corvette Stingray, provides the ICE portion of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray’s powertrain. The V8 LT2 develops 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, combining with the front-mounted electric motor to crank out a maximum of 655 horsepower. A dual-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission (RPO code MLH) connects the engine to the rear wheels.
As a reminder, the 2024 Corvette E-Ray rides on the mid-engine GM Y2 platform and production takes place at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky, alongside the Corvette Stingray and Corvette Z06 variants.
