SAIC-GM-Wuling Exceeds 1 Million Electric Vehicles Sold
SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), the second joint venture of General Motors in China that manages the Wuling and Baojun brands, announced that it has just surpassed the milestone of one million electric vehicles sold in the Asian country.
The automaker officially surpassed one million electric vehicles sold on Monday, August 8th, holding a short ceremony at its main plant in the Chinese city of Liuzhou. As such, SGMW becomes the fastest car company to do so in the country thanks to its market focus, unbeatable cost formula and enormous scale in the largest car market.

Since the launch of the Baojun E100 as the manufacturer’s first all-electric vehicle, SGMW’s EV range has focused exclusively on entry-level minicars that meet customers’ mobility needs and contribute to reducing emissions in densely populated Chinese cities. Currently, the range is led by the Baojun KiWi EV and the best-selling Wuling MINI EV.
Baojun KiWi EV
Notably, the Wuling MINI EV has been the sales champion in the electric vehicle category in China for 22 consecutive months, establishing its lead shortly after its official launch in July 2020. In the first half of this year, the MINI EV sold 196,000 units which also made it the most popular car in the Chinese market with a monthly average of almost 33,000 deliveries, trailing only a few crossovers.
GM claims that the success of the Wuling and Baojun electric vehicles is based on the new Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform developed locally by SGMW, which debuted in 2022 with the Baojun E300, later renamed KiWi EV. and the Wuling MINI EV, which offers significant economy of scale and high production flexibility. The next member of the range is the all-new Wuling Air EV, which made its world debut in June.
