NASCAR Le Mans Garage 56 Camaro Livery Unveiled
The NASCAR Le Mans Chevy Camaro ZL1 – also known as the Garage 56 entry – has been in development for several months now. Fielded by Hendrick Motorsports (HMS), the endurance Camaro is based on the Next Gen Cup Series cars, and it has already turned plenty of laps at Sebring. Now, NASCAR and HMS have unveiled exactly what that new race car will look like once it hits the track for the 2023 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The blue, silver and yellow livery features an American flag motif on the Camaro’s hood scoop, and the yellow stripes down the sides emphasize the race car’s body lines. Bold NASCAR logo decals are emblazoned on the doors along with a stylized “Garage 56” inscription to identify the race car. The hood also carries the special logo designed to commemorate NASCAR’s 75th anniversary, while “NASCAR Le Mans” inscriptions decorate the rear window.
The name rail proudly displays the last names and nationalities of its three drivers. Jimmie Johnson, a seasoned NASCAR Cup Series driver, will take the wheel alongside Le Mans champion Mike Rockenfeller and Formula One champion Jensen Button, putting a wide range of motorsports talent in the driver’s seat for the first-ever NASCAR Le Mans entry.
The NASCAR Le Mans race car will be a testament to the Camaro ZL1 racer’s durability in an endurance setting. As a reminder, Garage 56 is considered a “showcase” competition slot, and the entry does not compete for points in the championship. Instead, the stock car being raced out of Garage 56 serves to show off innovation at Le Mans.
Additionally, NASCAR CEO, Steve O’Donnell, has stated that he is keeping a close eye on the vehicle’s development for potential influence and improvements on the sport’s Cup Series spec cars.
