Restored Two-Top Corvette Roadster 327/350hp V8 4 Speed Air Conditioning
During its 65-year history, the legendary Corvette has enjoyed immense innovation and success. From Grand Sports and Z06s to the beast they call the ZR1/ZTK, performance is something the Vette camp knows all too well. So that begs the question: what exactly does it take to make a Corvette truly collectible? Well, it's hard to answer such a broad inquiry, but we can tell you what makes this sweet C2 stand out from the crowd. For starters, it's a Rally Red factory air car that's been restored as needed. It has plenty of power thanks to 327 cubic inches of spry Chevrolet small block. And last but certainly not least, thanks to a tough 4-speed and the choice of hard or soft tops, it's poised to provide an awesome driving experience. So, that brings us to the ultimate question: are you ready for a super cool Sting Ray?
BODYWORK/TRIM
The beneficiary of comprehensive, body-on restoration, this impressive roadster is a lust worthy rendition of a timeless American classic. The car's correct Rally Red 2-stage is, despite a bit of graceful aging, still capable of drawing the most discerning eye. Under that vivid pigment, great fit and finish is aligned to better-than-factory standards. And all that visual pizzazz is capped in your choice of factory fiberglass or traditional white vinyl.
With such a dramatically styled body, ornamentation could have easily ruined the C2's presence. Thankfully, GM did a great job of placing form over function and keeping brightwork to a minimum. At the front of this Chevy, mirrored bumpers trace a stainless grille, which is centered between bullet-style parking lamps. Above those bumpers, a cross-flag-branded header draws the eye through a clean hood to polished wipers and stainless-trimmed glass. At the sides of that glass, a chrome driver's mirror and traditional GM door handles perfectly complement polished rocker guards and small fender emblems. And at the back of the car, two more mirrored bumpers frame an ornate fuel filler, polished exhaust tips, 2-tone taillights, a polished tag box and a requisite Sting Ray deck emblem.
ENGINE
Tilt this Corvette's hood and you'll find 327 cubic inches of correct Chevrolet small block. One of the most powerful naturally aspirated V8s of its day, this impressive mill utilizes a forged crank, forged rods, forged pistons, a hot cam and solid lifters to turn stout 11 to 1 compression into a solid 350 horsepower. At the top of the spry block, a polished air cleaner funnels wind in to a correct Holley carburetor that's threaded onto polished stainless fuel lines. Below that carb, a lightweight Winters intake perfectly complements finned Corvette valve covers. At the back of that intake, chrome-cased ignition shoots spark through fresh wires, which lurk beneath correct, cast iron exhaust manifolds. And at the front of those manifolds, a Harrison-branded radiator circulates water through pliable GM hoses and authentic tower clamps. Whoever performed the restoration on this Corvette did an excellent job of creating an attractive, reliable engine bay that's every bit as detailed as the rest of the car. Bright Chevy Orange paint covers the block from its clean oil pan all the way to its chrome oil filler and, as always, looks great against GM's Satin Black bay. And a roster of correct ancillaries includes a Frigidaire AC compressor, a Harrison expansion tank and a Delco-Remy voltage regulator.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Flip this small block Vette upside down and you'll find a solid chassis that's in good shape, and today, looks much as it did when it rolled off the showroom floor. At the center of the car, a tough Muncie 4-speed drives a factory differential. At the ends of the car, a fully sorted double A-arm front and independent rear suspension is completely detailed down to its lucid shocks, correct springs and optional power steering. Above that rebuilt suspension, solid floor tubs trace a straight, Satin Black frame. At the corners of those floors, power disc brakes, made standard for the 1965 model year, mix good handling characteristics with quick and solid stops. At the edges of those brakes, torque flows through clean 'knock-off' wheels to 215/70R15 BF Goodrich Touring T/As. And everything, from this Corvette's factory sway bar to its factory replacement exhaust system, is fully sorted and ready to roll!
INTERIOR
Slip in to this Sting Ray's serene interior and settle on clean vinyl buckets that are dressed in factory lap belts. A body-matched dash founds an array of black-trimmed telemetry next to controls for factory air conditioning and a correct Delco radio. At the base of that dash, a shallow console frames a familiar chrome shifter. Below that console, translucent floor mats protect body-matched carpet. At the edges of that carpet, weather-free door panels frame simple stainless hardware. A telescopic steering column spins a sporty, satin-spoke wheel. And behind the passengers, a small storage compartment reserves enough room for a pair of car show chairs.
With impressive power, a sculpted body and a stylish interior, this solid sports car is an attractive, well-rounded classic. And best of all, being a Corvette, its appeal is nearly universal. If you're in the market for a cool collector car with an unbeatable combination of style and performance, this Chevy is your kind of ride!
