517 hp Camaro Restomod Lingenfelter Performance 383 V8 4-speed
We've featured some really cool resto-mods over the past few years. And this handsome first-gen Camaro is the latest in a long line of metal that seems to come in, spend one week being universally admired, and disappear to a new home. For most enthusiasts, resto-mods are the perfect compromise between style and reliability. And, let's face it, who doesn't enjoy cruising a storied collector car that mixes the best attributes of old school Motor City muscle with upgraded performance and better drivability? Wrapping 383 cubic inches of Lingenfelter-built small block in a thoughtfully upgraded chassis and tasteful restoration, this sweet Chevy is an impressive classic that'll fare well on the road AND at the show!
EFFORTLESSLY ENDURING STYLE
In the hands of its current owner since 1987, this sweet panther is an invigorating Chevrolet icon that's benefitted from acute restoration. In fact, the car was purchased as its current owner's first set of wheels and methodically rebuilt into a traditional-style street brawler that places performance and reliability above all else. And while sentimentality has always been a major factor in this coupe's 35-year progression, its owner, a modern COPO racer, is simply ready to pass his beloved Chevy to someone who has more time to enjoy it.
Era-correct Marina Blue two-stage keeps the car's sculpted body as timeless as ever, and Ermine White Rally Stripes seem a perfectly natural addition to that lasting aura. At the front of those stripes, a standard Camaro grille centers a decidedly Mid-Century bowtie between a polished bumper, clear parking lamps, halogen headlights and a familiar D80 chin spoiler. A Camaro-branded header leads a flat hood that's founded at satin-finish, factory-style wipers. Those wipers clear a stainless-trimmed, pillarless greenhouse that, with the exception of its windshield, is believed to be original glass. A “Camaro” branded profile floats polished handles and a polished mirror above classy marker lamps and sharp rocker guards. And at the back of the car, a Camaro-branded decklid tilts a second D80 spoiler over a locking fuel cap, 1968-exclusive taillights and a guarded bumper.
THREE WORDS: LINGENFELTER PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING
Professionally assembled by the pros at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, this Camaro's 383 cubic inch small block spins stout 13 to 1 compression into a wicked 517 horses and a solid 500 lb./ft. of pavement-bruising torque! At the top of that premium stroker motor, a carbon fiber K&N air cleaner weaves wind into a steady stream of 100-octane fuel that flows through a Holley Double Pumper carburetor. A polished Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake feeds choice Brodix Track 1 heads that were ported and prepped by Lingenfelter. Those lightweight heads tilt COMP Hi-Tech Stainless Rockers between a COMP roller cam, solid lifters and stylish Lingenfelter valve covers. Combustion gets sparked by MSD 6AL ignition, which makes excellent use of a hot MSD coil, a billet MSD distributor and loomed Magnecor plug wires. Pliable V-belts spin a polished Edelbrock water pump below a polished alternator. Cooling is provided by a massive Fluidyne radiator that's finished with a polished bowtie cap. Spent gases traverse Jet Hot-coated Hooker Super Competition headers. The Chevy Orange mill rumbles in a clean, Satin Black engine bay that's dressed with polished fender braces, CPP brake components and a big Optima battery. And naturally, that traditional frame highlights a sea of first-rate hardware that includes stainless fuel lines, a coated Holley pump, a muted bowtie breather and quality ARP bolts.
BUILT TO DRIVE!
Park this coupe on a lift and you'll find a thoughtfully upgraded chassis that's clean, mean and ready to roll! Behind the stout small block, a tough RAM clutch kicks a proven Auto Gear Model 18 M22 4-speed, fitted with a requisite Lakewood bellhousing, that twists a custom Dynotech driveshaft. That tube, finished with a beefy 1350 yoke, spins power to a traditional GM 12-bolt that's built with Richmond 3.55 gears and an Auburn Pro Series limited-slip differential. That housing, made extra durable by a Moser C-clip Eliminator Kit, rides a factory rear suspension that's been upgraded with Competition Engineering Slide-A-Link traction bars and adjustable QA-1 shocks. That suspension pushes a factory subframe that's been restored, fully powder-coated and fully reassembled with Performance Suspension Tech bushings. Everything stays straight thanks to Competition Engineering subframe connectors. Factory-style power steering, upgraded with Lares quick-ratio gears, works well with Eibach coils, a heavy duty sway bar and two more adjustable QA-1 shocks. Power-assisted stops originate at an 11-inch, Cadmium-plated booster, which clamps four calipers through a full suite of stainless lines. The aforementioned headers growl through TIG-welded Stainless Works pipes, which thread three inches of air through an X-shaped crossover and rowdy turbo mufflers. And at the corners, original steel wheels spin original hubcaps inside two 235/60R15 Firestone redlines and two 255/60R15 Firestone redlines.
EFFORTLESSLY ENDURING CLASS
Climb in to this Camaro's retro cockpit and settle on firm bucket seats that stretch correct Blue vinyl over original frames. A striking dash hangs factory telemetry beneath a fresh D&R Classic pad. An original console props requisite 4-pack accessory gauges in front of a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. Original door panels, fitted with fresh armrests, join original seatbelts at the edges of original carpet. Original sun visors front an original headliner that's been carefully refurbished. Factory Delco multiplex audio kicks upgraded speakers. And the driver spins a Walnut Grant steering wheel around a tilting column that was sourced directly from Rick's Camaro.
Who doesn't want an iconic American muscle car that's been mechanically upgraded in virtually every way? Thanks to intense focus and great restoration, this timeless Chevy retains authentic Motor City feel while providing substantially increased performance and an enhanced ownership experience. In the market for a storied classic that's fully detailed and ready to hit the road? Welcome to the Chevrolet family!
