The 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat gets a dual-snorkel nose

Dodge is stoking that nostalgia fire yet again. This time it’s with a new hood for the 2019 Challenger Hellcat that will take people back to the muscle car heyday of the mid-‘60s and early ‘70s, featuring a fearsome dual-snorkel nose.

The nostrils will apparently be built into the hood, and Dodge says they’ll be fully functional, which means perhaps some additional fresh air being sent into the supercharger of the 6.2-liter V-8. Will that mean anything extra past the Challenger’s 707 hp? For now Dodge isn’t saying, and there’s no word on whether a dual-snorkel hood will be standard, optional, or offered on the related Charger SRT Hellcat.

The dual-snorkel hood, a recognizable trademark on Mopar performance cars, is notable on the 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee where the twin snorkels and split grille were a one-year-only design, and also the 1971-72 Dodge Demon and Plymouth Duster Twister. No doubt the 340 was the engine to get in the Demon, as in’71 it made a wonderful 275 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque before it was detuned to 240 hp and 290 lb-ft the following year.

Dodge says more details are forthcoming later this summer, but we have a feeling there might be a few more fun changes for the 2019 Hellcat models.
