Mustang Mach 1 Will Be Available Globally, Unlike The Shelby GT350
Much to the chagrin of those outside of North America, one of the most special Ford Mustang variants – the Shelby GT350 – was not available for purchase across the globe. However, Ford Authority has confirmed with the Mustang team that the 2021 Mustang Mach 1 will be available globally, which is certainly good news.
Of course, the Mustang Mach 1 isn’t quite what the Shelby GT350 is, but it’s still a promising, track-focused machine. The newest Mach 1 comes equipped with Ford’s 5.0L Coyote V8, which in this guise produces 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.
It’s also packed with a host of GT350 components, including its intake manifold, oil filter adapter, engine oil cooler, and excellent Tremec 3160 6-speed manual transmission, though buyers can also opt for Ford’s 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with an upgraded torque converter and unique calibration.
Underneath, the Mustang Mach 1 features Ford’s latest MagneRide calibration, a stiffer steering I-shaft, new EPAS calibration, stiffer sway bars and front springs, a brake booster from the Mustang GT Performance Pack 2, a rear subframe with stiffer bushings, and a rear toe-link from the Shelby GT500.
The Mach 1 is fitted with 19 inch x 9.5 inch and 19 inch x 10 inch five-spoke Tarnished Dark-painted aluminum wheels, or 19 inch x 10.5 inch front, and 19 inch x 11 inch rear Tarnished Dark-painted aluminum wheels with the optional Handling Package, which is only available with the manual transmission.
Ford promises that the new Mach 1 will be a formidable performer on track, and that certainly seems to be the case. But as much as we love the Coyote, it just doesn’t conjure up the same magic as the 5.2L Voodoo V8 from the GT350. Nor does it make as much power, as the Voodoo is rated at 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque.
Regardless, the fact that the Mach 1 is going to be sold across the globe is certainly great news for Mustang fans around the world, and perhaps we’ll see at least one out on the Nurburgring, since a couple of prototypes have already tested there.
