Description

At the turn of the century, GM proved very interesting to watch. The company had great aspirations, excellent engineers and big resources to back its operations, but still couldn't quite execute product to the extent it promised. For example, the 2000 North American International Auto Show brought NINE GM concepts that glimpsed the future of the corporation's collective brands. And Chevrolet, knowing its hardcore fans weren't going to be happy with the inevitable phase out of the F4 Camaro, decided to announce their production-intent Super Sport Roadster. Combining a traditional V8 drivetrain with the monumental surge in truck popularity and a bit of heritage-inspired goodwill certainly seemed like a perfect way to make money AND make enthusiasts happy. The problem was: what GM billed as a cool replacement for the Camaro ended up being a neutered boulevard cruiser that, with its heavy body-on-frame construction, all-steel panels and underpowered LS1, had virtually no semblance of performance. Not surprisingly, that compromised introduction met little enthusiasm in the marketplace. And by the time much improved LS2-powered SSRs like this truck hit the streets, Chevrolet was already planning the model's demise. Today, those are all good things because GM unknowingly cemented the legacy of one of the coolest and most exclusive modern collector pieces on the market. And when someone throws in a dyno-proven Lingenfelter supercharger system, you can rest assured that all the truck's performance shortcomings have been thoroughly addressed! So, if you're looking to pick up a fresh, hassle-free hot rod that's got all the right stuff to stand out from the crowd, we have your future classic.

With only 5,883 miles on its clear digital odometer, this razor-sharp Super Sport Roadster is a well-maintained garage queen that's assembly line perfect in virtually every way. A vivid coat of GM code 70 Redline Red combines with familiar silver rally stripes to perfectly accentuate its voluptuous body. That body's 'inverted toggle draw' panels display precise fit and excellent finish under a 'top stack' roof that functions well and seals great. By the looks of that roof's finish, I'm fairly certain it has never seen daily driver duty or experienced anything more aggressive than a soft detailing cloth. And when that dedicated level of ownership is combined with Lansing Craft Center's first class build quality, it creates one seriously cool drop-top that'll show with the finest classics and absolutely blister the road!

But wait, there's more. Not content with having a vehicle that's just rare and visually stunning, this Chevy's owner decided to let Lingenfelter Performance Engineering of Decatur, Indiana bolt up $10,913.95 worth of force-fed performance sizzle. Here's a thorough rundown of the official LPE documentation that's included with the truck's sale:

* 6.0 liter SSR Supercharged Package ($9,995)
* --- Silver-finished Magnuson M112 “Magnacharger” intercooled supercharger system
* --- Lingenfelter boost bypass controller
* --- Properly sized fuel injectors
* --- Kenne Bell Boost-a-pump fuel pump booster
* --- 160 degree thermostat
* --- Professional installation, testing and calibration
* --- Chassis dyno
* --- Lingenfelter 3 year/36,000 mile warranty
* --- Lingenfelter certificate of authenticity
* Optional Lingenfelter badging ($95)
* Optional K&N air intake ($599.95)
* Alignment, fuel and detailing ($225)

Stylistically, the SSR builds on Chevrolet's semi-forgotten tradition of curvy trucks. But while its glorious exterior surfaces recall the full-fendered forms of the late '40s and early '50s, its stance and detailing convey an unmistakably modern flavor. At the front of the truck's solid steel body, a traditional Chevy crossbar centers a familiar gold bowtie between a “CHEVROLET” branded grille topper, bright HID headlights, hidden parking lamps and small HID driving lights. At the top of that crossbar, a ridged hood flows to factory fresh glass that's flanked by body-matched mirrors and seated in body-matched frames. At the sides of that hood, flush-fit door handles hang over body-matched fender shields, Redline Red running boards and small marker lights that illuminate smaller Chevrolet bowties. And behind those door handles, an electronic, “SSR LINGENFELTER” branded tail gate centers a covered cargo hold between traditional round tail lights and spotless Corsa exhaust tips. This red hot roadster isn't some generic custom that's had a few whimsical parts bolted on; it was built from day one to be an OEM-quality stunner which mixes the best attributes of Chevrolet performance with unbeatable aesthetic appeal.

Like Chevrolet car's 2005 flagship Corvette, Chevrolet truck's 2005 flagship SSR came equipped with a proven 6.0 liter LS2 V8 that, at 390 horsepower and 405 lb./ft. of torque, was certainly no slouch in the performance department. Widely considered one of the world's greatest V8 powerplants, GM's generation III small block utilizes cast aluminum construction, “243” heads, a high flow intake, an aggressive camshaft and an upgraded electronic fuel injection system to turn stout 10.9 to 1 compression into hours of speed and miles of impressive fuel economy. The award-winning mill is a thrilling companion for any car guy who has a pulse; and Lingenfelter's numerous tweaks are a constant reminder that it doesn't take much to coax scary power out of the brand's tried and true overhead valve technology. Naturally, a silver Eaton-style supercharger is the engine's biggest visual and auditory attention getter. But there are also many other upgrades including an optional K&N air intake, a liquid to air intercooler and a beefier fuel injection system that help bring output to a dyno-proven 458 horsepower and 425 lb./ft. of torque! As you would expect, the truck's bay is tidy and clean all the way from its body-matched, “SSR” emblazoned hood mat to its factory oil pan. And the sound of the LS2 growling through Corsa's tailor-made exhaust system will send chills right down your spine. Trust me, with this small block's sonorous note and neck-snapping acceleration, you'll want to bury the 'go' pedal every chance you get!

For the most part the SSR was always considered a great cruiser, but that doesn't mean this slick roadster isn't any fun on a curvy country road. The truck's wide steel fenders cover a hydroformed steel frame that's been borrowed from Chevrolet's own Trailblazer EXT, thoroughly re-braced and fitted with a short-long-arm front and 5-link rear suspension. GM engineers then supplemented that sturdy chassis with mandatory traction control, specifically tuned power rack and pinion steering and vented power four wheel disc brakes. At the center of the truck's floor, a beefed up 4L65E 4-speed automatic transmission, which is hooked to a factory Torsen differential and stout 3.73 gears, makes quick work of the hot small block's big torque. At the sides of that stellar drivetrain, a Corsa cat-back exhaust veils free-breathing power in a symphony of octane. And at the corners of that rowdy exhaust system, a sweet set of chrome wheels twist fresh 295/40R20 Goodyear Eagle RS-As behind 255/45R19 Goodyear Eagle RS-As. All this state-of-the-art equipment enables good cornering capability and blistering 5.5 second 0-60 sprints. And since this pristine roadster has likely never seen inclement weather, you can rest assured all of its flat-side components are just as fresh as the factory left them.

Inside this awesome drop-top you'll find a factory fresh cockpit that displays virtually no wear at all. This truck's plush driving environment kicks off with a pair of familiar power bucket seats that are wrapped in high quality leather surfaces. In front of those seats, a conservative dash hangs a silver-trimmed instrument panel between a bright “LINGENFELTER” emblem, a factory CD player and a stylish steering wheel. At the sides of that dash, silver-trimmed door panels hang chrome lockers and contoured handles above large Bose speakers. Below those panels, like-new carpet is protected by “SSR” branded sill plates and either factory SSR mats or fresh Lingenfelter mats. On top of that carpet, a body-matched console anchors a silver shifter behind a three pack of optional accessory gauges. And naturally, all the amenities and convenience features you've come to expect in a modern ride are present throughout including front and side air bags, remote keyless entry and standard cruise control.

The sale of this killer SSR includes a small stack of factory manuals, a Lingenfelter Certificate of Authenticity, Lingenfelter dyno sheets, a small packet of Lingenfelter paperwork, and a pair of chrome GM fender emblems.

Research this truck's original window sticker, check out the total for its Lingenfelter mods, and then take a look at our certified price. There's absolutely no doubt its next happy owner is getting stunning style and amazing performance for excellent money. And when you factor in exclusivity and mileage, you have a top notch modern classic that's prime for future collectability! If you're looking for a great platform with excellent performance to match its stellar looks, it's time you become the proud owner of this showroom-fresh Super Sport Roadster!
