179 Actual Mile Camaro SS Indy 500 Pace Car 6.2L V8
To celebrate the reintroduction of its legendary Camaro, Chevrolet paced the 99th running of the historic Indianapolis 500 and continued its tradition of building rare pace car replicas. Featuring a pleasing combination of Inferno Orange and White Diamond paint, only 294 of those replica F5s were produced. And this example, with only 179 miles on its bright blue odometer, packs top-of-the-line Super Sport performance into classic pony car style!
Born with wicked awesome looks, this Chevy's current condition comes courtesy of a 3-year stint in climate controlled storage. The car's factory-straight sheetmetal is covered in racy Inferno Orange two-stage and detailed with striking White Diamond stripes. And naturally, a few Indy 500 logos were thrown on for good measure.
Motivation is provided by a 6.2 liter L99 V8 which utilizes a cast aluminum block, high-flow heads, a high flow intake, an aggressive camshaft and coil-near-plug ignition to twist stout 10.7:1 compression into an even 400 horsepower. The whole assembly is covered in a black and orange shroud that's centered between correct Inferno Orange fenders. And everything, from the car's factory air box to its dent-free oil pan, presents a clean, authentic appearance.
That big mill is backed by a slick-shifting Hydra-Matic 6L80 6-speed, which flows power to a tough, limited slip rear end and friendly 3.27 gears. That world class drivetrain is suspended in a sophisticated, Nurburgring-tested suspension, which benefits from Stabilitrak traction and stability control. And at the corners, polished 5-spokes spin 245/45ZR20 Pirelli P Zeros in front of 275/40ZR20 Pirelli P Zeros.
Inside the car, nostalgic Chevrolet styling is wrapped in a pleasant mix of Inferno Orange leather and bright silver accents. Luxurious bucket seats sport fresh covers that, judging by appearance, haven't seen any road time at all. That upscale aura continues onto the dashboard which offers a combination of digital and analog gauges. And in front of the driver, a satin-spoked steering wheel spins a small “SS” emblem around a chrome “CAMARO” script.
The market for unique modern muscle remains incredibly strong, as evidenced by how quickly this Camaro sold. Congratulations to the car's lucky owner for snagging one of our coolest F-Bodies to date. And if you're searching for an awesome, new-age classic from GM's number one division, stay tuned -- there's always something good around the corner!
