Description

Classic cars are all about passion. Some of the nicest classics we feature are those built by folks who invest a large amount of time and money into a project they simply love. And much to the surprise of casual onlookers, most gearhead's dream builds don't involve Ridler finalists or a prestigious pile of garage floor décor. Instead, they're filled with impressive, well-done cruisers which wrap modern power, everyday livability and top-notch road manners in about five times the curb appeal of your local showroom special. This awesome '57 Chevy was carefully crafted into a first class head turner during a multi-year, high dollar restoration. And, thanks to a proven Ram Jet 350 and virtually indestructible driveline, it's now the perfect platform for cross-country road trips. Looking for a hot tri-five that's every bit as cool, and twice as classy, as a ground-up custom? This killer sedan is an amazing car at an incredible price!

Delightfully vintage and decidedly fresh, this slick, post-free 210 is proof that Chevrolet's decision to take a curvaceous fuselage, weld it to a sweeping roofline and decorate it with an ample amount of chrome was an excellent idea. Unlike the exaggerated designs of the late 50s and early 60s, the car's proportions are spot-on, there's appropriate use of trim, and the sharp rear fins that would eventually grow to controversial wings are fully integrated into attractive, planar surfaces. Judging by a quick glance at its profile, this Chevy was an extremely solid piece when its high quality, frame-off restoration began. Nonetheless, its body was stripped to bare metal and virtually perfected in a thorough rebuild that included a restored undercarriage and smooth black paint. And today, it rolls as one fantastic tri-five that creates a one car parade everywhere it goes!

When it comes to trim, chic is the name of the game with this clean chameleon. The car's striking combination of highly polished stainless and purposely subdued two-stage readily assimilates to either modern or retro depending on context. That assimilation begins with a heavy, body-width bumper that props a clean, stainless grille behind a pristine Chevrolet crest and two clear parking lamps. Above that crest, chrome header ornamentation rides between hooded headlights and '57 Chevy-exclusive 'spear bullets and spoons'. At the sides of those headlights, classic tri-five stainless is flanked by traditional fender louvers, subtle “Fuel Injection” emblems and correct “Chevrolet” scripts. Above those emblems, curvy chrome trim combines with a small mirror and bright RainGear wipers to perfectly frame a factory-tint greenhouse. Opposite those wipers, peaked fin caps highlight '57 Chevy tail lights, a second chrome bumper and polished exhaust tips. And above that bumper, chrome trunk ornamentation reflects a traditional chrome tag frame.

Under the car's gently rolled hood you'll find a GM Performance Parts Ram Jet 350 that utilizes a cast iron crank, powdered connecting rods, hypereutectic pistons and a hydraulic roller cam to twist stout 9 to 1 compression into 350 horsepower and 400 lb./ft. torque. Instant speed and modern drivability are provided by a compact aluminum intake that's jolted by a Lokar throttle cable, juiced by handsome stainless tubes and fronted by a “RAM JET PFI” filter element. That intake funnels a perfect air/fuel mixture into efficient Vortec heads that hide high quality roller rockers beneath finned “Corvette” valve covers. At the back of those covers, a traditional points distributor sequences spark through Accel Extreme Ceramic plug wires. Cooling is provided by a body-matched radiator, which is sandwiched between a Cooling Components puller fan, a polished overflow tank and a body-matched core support. Charging comes courtesy of a polished Powermaster alternator that, thanks to a trick pulley system, spins in unison with a chrome AC compressor and familiar Edelbrock water pump. And spent gases travel from a slick pair of coated shorty headers to large, aluminized exhaust pipes. Visually, this sweet Chevy's carefully color-keyed engine bay is a stylish combination of glossy and satin finishes. And details like a chrome brake booster, polished block off plates, an Accel pressure gauge and high quality American Autowire electronics add smiles and instill confidence!

During its frame-off restoration, this 210's original 'Glide Ride' suspension was fully rebuilt with CPP power steering and a pair of high quality QA1 coil-overs. Above that suspension, rust-free floorpans are, like most of today's road going classics, layered in weather resistant undercoating. Behind the stout small block, a Tremec 5-speed spins a Currie 9-inch rear end that's equipped with a posi-traction differential and big, 3.73 gears. Braking is handled by a full set of power discs that were a logical and easy retrofit. Exhaust rumbles through big, aluminized pipes to aggressive Flowmaster mufflers. And power flows to the pavement via polished Corvette turbines, which spin 225/70R15 Firestone Firehawk Indys in front of 235/70R15 Firestone Firehawk Indys. All of the car's lines, hoses, brackets and fasteners, which were completely replaced at the time of restoration, show little to no weathering. And everything, from this Chevy's Powermaster starter to its fresh stainless fuel tank, is fully sorted and ready to hit the road!

Featuring a stunning array of grayscale accents, this tri-five's carefully restored interior is both clean and impressive. At the center of the car, firm bench seats wear a striking combination of white, gray, black and gold. On the doors, tri-tone panels, which almost look custom, hang correct handles and chrome power window switches between simple armrests, glossy frames and Memphis Audio kick speakers. At the floor, fresh black carpet centers a chrome Hurst shifter between beefy mats, billet pedals and straight Fisher sills. On the roof, a tight gray headliner stretches from the car's curved front window to its straight, black package tray. At the front of the cockpit, a painted and polished dash hangs Classic Instruments gauges and Vintage Air climate control beside a Wonder Bar radio, a Secret Audio system and a small GM Performance Division emblem. The driver is connected to the road by a stylish, 3-spoke steering wheel that spins a familiar cross-flag horn button around a tilting Ididit column. And the passengers carry their essentials in a fully restored trunk that anchors a full-size spare tire between a relocated battery, a JL Audio amp, a JL Audio subwoofer and a Custom Autosound CD changer.

The sale of this awesome resto-mod includes a stack of component manuals and a copy of its feature in Modern Chevrolet's Classic Muscle calendar.

Cars like this rare 210 are very special, and they represent incredible value to buyers. With its hot drivetrain, high quality restoration and sinister color combination, THIS is the kind of build you simply can't touch for our asking price. Just imagine heading out in this old school classic on a warm summer evening; the burble of the 350 as a chorus, the smooth, open road as a canvas, and nothing between you and miles of happiness!
