Description

As nice as investment grade first generation Camaros are, it seems that EVERYONE either owns one or knows someone who owns one. And as much as we enjoy seeing killer F1s come through our doors, it's always nice to find a pristine, second generation car. Being the avid Camaro fan that you are, you probably know finding a solid F2 isn't all that hard; but the chances of scoring a fully sorted, show worthy pro-tourer are about as slim as purchasing a winning lottery ticket. Well, since the passionate gearheads at RK Motors Charlotte specialize in unique and hard to find cars, we can offer you one-of-a-kind opportunities like this striking Camaro Z28. Backing a 421 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 with a reworked chassis and beefy Tremec 6-speed, it's a super clean, road-worthy muscle car that's ready to kick your summer off right!

During its rotisserie reboot, this solid old Chevy was entirely disassembled and completely striped of its dull, original pigment. Once that single-stage was removed, an incredibly straight fuselage underwent a fair amount of block-sanding. As that massaged profile featured laser-straight surfaces, a rich Black base was sealed under glossy clear and vivid Red stripes. When that clear dried, labor-intensive wet-sanding produced a spectacular, mirror-like shine. And today, a close look at our high resolution pictures reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one of the coolest Chevrolets on the planet!

General Motors envisioned the F2 Camaro as a working man's Ferrari and, thanks to a better timeframe and bigger budget, effectively addressed many of the complaints enthusiasts had about the F1. Longer, wider, lower to the ground and more aggressive, the second generation was certainly more of a driver's car, and is widely regarded as some of the best looking and best performing Detroit steel ever produced. At the front of this coupe, a pliable urethane valence centers a 2-piece, “Z28” branded grille between ornate parking lamps, modern headlights and a thick, body-width spoiler. Behind that grille, a smooth hood anchors a faux cowl in front of pristine glass, prerequisite T-tops and muted stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, a clean fuselage leads bright door handles and body-matched sport mirrors with new marker lamps and aggressive air extractors. And at the back of the car, a multi-color valence hangs a second “Z28” emblem between an angled spoiler, clean Cragar louvers and correct wheel flares.

Given this panther's evil paint and decal package, it's probably pretty obvious the car was built to be seen. But, thanks to a 421 cubic inch Chevrolet V8, that might be easier said than done! At the top of the Corporate Blue mill, a big Rochester Quadrajet rides between a glossy, single-snorkel air cleaner and a bright, stainless fluid line. Below that carburetor, a proven aluminum intake funnels a perfect air/fuel mixture into aluminum Pro-Filer heads, which wear traditional steel valve covers. When the juice hits the cylinders, reliable MSD ignition sparks fresh Moroso Ultra 40 Wires while a Comp cam and Callies rotating assembly push spent gases through impressive Dynatech headers. Cooling for that fire is provided by a factory-correct radiator, which hangs in front of a correct Delco Air compressor. And overall, the car's clean engine compartment is exceptionally well-done; framing a fresh brake booster, new decals and correct Harrison AC components in glossy, body-matched fenders.

Not surprisingly, the bottom of this road-ready Chevy continues the theme of pairing proven hardware with enhanced technology. Behind the awesome small block, a tough Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed makes good use of a QuickTime bellhousing and Performance Quotient flywheel. Behind that 6-speed, a tough, 12-bolt rear end spins a Detroit TruTrac differential around 4.10 Moser gears. Turns come courtesy of factory power steering. A full assortment of power disc brakes provides solid, confident stops. An impressive true-dual exhaust system funnels spent gases through mandatory converters, an x-shaped crossover, a transverse resonator and great sounding Dynomax mufflers. The car's over-restored floors complement a powdercoated chassis that's strengthened with Caltracs traction bars and beefy frame connectors. All that reliable hardware rolls on sweet N90 replicas, which spin 225/50ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sports in front of 285/40ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sports. And fully sorted details like stainless fluid lines, fresh shocks and a familiar stainless fuel tank ensure this classic bowtie is ready for years of carefree cruising.

Open this F2's long doors and you'll find a correct Carmine interior that's both stylish and simple. That interior is built around well-maintained bench and bucket seats, which mix firm padding with straight and solid frames. At the top of those seats, a pliable headliner stretches tightly around clean Fisher T-tops. At the bottom of those seats, great looking carpet is protected by “Z/28” branded floor mats. Between those seats, a wide console centers a chrome shifter in front of small power window switches. The car's vitals are monitored by a surprisingly straight dash, which hangs wood-trimmed instrumentation above a modern Pioneer head unit. The driver stays connected to the road via Global Cruise control and a tilting 'simulated rope' steering wheel. And behind the passengers, a solid trunk features a new mat, bright decals and a fresh space saver spare.

The sale of this awesome Camaro includes an assembly manual, restoration receipts, component manuals and a small book of restoration photos.

This show worthy Z28 is one of the best combinations of performance and style your money can buy. As a clean, road-ready classic, it's the perfect car for any discerning Chevy enthusiast. And with its long-term value certain to appreciate, it can serve as a unique centerpiece for any muscle car collection!
