Description

The now famous 2000 remake of Gone in Sixty Seconds did more than just create a new generation of car fans across the nation. It also made the name Eleanor synonymous with every '67 Shelby GT500. You can't see one today without immediately identifying it with the movie. It also made these silver '67 beasts some of the most sought after rides of all time. When you look at one up close like this Eleanor tribute, it's very easy to see why so many car enthusiasts have this year and model down as their favorite of all time.

Even though life started as a '68 Mustang, thanks to an extensive one year build by Shelby licensed Classic Recreations in Oklahoma, today it sits as a gorgeous example of the '67 Shelby known as Eleanor. If you are a fan of the movie you will instantly recognize how authentic this vehicle is. It is so authentic that it even is recognized in the Eleanor World Registry as #31. We've found that these Eleanor creations don't last long in our showroom, so if you are in the market for an '67 GT500 or otherwise known as Eleanor, that you can enjoy, then this is the car for you.

Most muscle car enthusiasts credit Carroll Shelby with introducing some of the coolest and most aggressive Mustangs ever created; so it's only natural that the original Eleanor bodywork would be based on his designs. At the leading edge of this re-imagined Mustang a custom headlight panel holds a pristine billet grille between two driving lights and two crystal clear halogen headlights. Below that grille, a Shelby 'R' style front valence incorporates two correct PIAA fog lights into an enlarged and billet filled air intake which is centered between two correct PIAA driving lights. At the top of the grille, an aggressive fiberglass hood perfectly aligns two hood pins between the car's fiberglass front fenders and fiberglass front valence; and like-new glass is bordered by straight stainless trim which looks so fresh it could've come right off the showroom floor. The profile of this Mustang presents a slick purpose-built race car appearance which is only interrupted by pristine chrome door handles, correct satin finished bullet style Shelby mirrors, a functional flip up fuel filler, and fender mounted “Shelby GT500” emblems. And at the back of the car, a Black Metallic rear valence, which is flanked by Shelby style extensions, hangs sequential Mercury Cougar tail lights above a straight and show worthy body-matched bumper and chrome trimmed reverse lights.

Lift the fiberglass hood on this insane ride and you'll find a 392ci Ford Motorsports Crate Engine that was built to produce 475hp. If that isn't enough, much like the Eleanor that was featured in the infamous film, hit the button attached to the shifter and you'll have another 150 horsepower at your disposal thanks to the 150hp shot of nitrous that sits in the trunk. At the top of the engine you'll find a lengthy, correct Cobra air filter resting on a 750cfm 4-barrel Demon carburetor. The carburetor is flanked on both sides by black valve covers that say 'Mustang powered by Ford'. The spark reaches the cylinder thanks to the MSD ignition and MSD distributor. From there the spent gasses travel through JBA ceramic coated headers then enter into 2.5” exhaust pipes. At the front of the engine March aluminum pulleys sit attached to the block, and in front of the pulleys an aluminum cross-flow radiator with dual electric fans is responsible for cooling the powerful engine.

Put this '68 Eleanor on a lift and you'll see how underneath the car received plenty of upgrades as well. You'll notice right away how the build team opted for a Maier Racing sub-frame connector and Unique Performance shock tower braces. The front suspension consists of Bilstein shocks, Maier front and lower control arms, and an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension utilizes a leaf spring setup, with a Maier adjustable panhard bar and a rear anti-roll bar. Bolted to the powerful engine is a Ford Motorsports World Class T5 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to a Ford 9-inch that houses 3.70 limited slip differential. Stopping power comes courtesy of Baer 13” front power disc brakes and 12” rear disc brakes. In front of those brakes are 17” PSE rims that have been wrapped in Z-rated Yokohama rubber.

Take a look inside the car and you'll find a highly accurate, vinyl interior which looks so crisp and well done that it could've been used for close-up shots in the actual movie. At the center of the car, Scat Rally series 1000 bucket seats wear G-force 5-point cam-lock harnesses. Below those seats, new carpet props stitched Shelby GT500 Cobra floor, and a great looking Hurst shifter which is topped with a correct “Go Baby Go” button. At the front of the car, a spectacular dash hangs Carroll Shelby signature gauges sit in front of the Flaming River polished tilt steering column that has a GT500 wood and aluminum steering wheel attached to it. In the center of the dash you'll see a modern JVC CD player that sends tunes through a Swiss Audio subwoofer and 2-way speakers. Behind the cockpit, a fully finished trunk houses an aluminum boxed battery across from the nitrous bottle.

As you can imagine with a build this extensive, people will often take notice and this Eleanor tribute has already taken home plenty of awards:
• 2008 "Ford Muscle Pick" at Goodguys Midwestern Nationals
• 2007 "Mighty Mustang" at Goodguys Midwestern Nationals
• 2007 "1st Place" at Oklahoma Centennial Mustang National (score of 489)
Also included in the sale of this '68 Eleanor is a binder full of restoration photos, letter from the previous owner, component manuals, and service records.

Absolutely no expense was spared on this 1967 Mustang GT500 Eleanor tribute. It combines professional grade performance hardware with what is arguably one of the best-looking Mustangs of all time to create a take-no-prisoners muscle car. If you're looking for an instantly recognizable classic that is scary fast and an absolute blast to drive, we have the car for you!
