Description

It's a great time to be a Dodge fan! Not only did the 21st century see the return of the brash Charger and top-dog Challenger, it also spawned a new generation of Mopar performance dubbed Street & Racing Technology. But even with countless special editions, and Chrysler's varying degrees of Hemi-fueled fury, SRT owners are pretty much used to the fact that someone else is going to show up with virtually the same wheels. Hey, it's not a bad thing that Mopars are so popular. But, then again, part of the appeal of having a special car is the guarantee of it actually being special. Enter this fully warrantied, virtually new Charger. This surly sedan takes all the torque-rich goodness of Dodge's preeminent pavement pounder and throws in tasteful aesthetic tweaks that create one unique head turner. And, if you're looking to pick up a modern, hassle-free hot rod that's loaded with tons of cool technology, it's your nouveau classic!

Pull this razor-sharp Dodge under the lights and you'll find original TorRed two-stage that's clean, shines like new and puts a modern twist on the trusted 'solid paint and two war stripes' color scheme. Below that lustworthy canvas, original sheetmetal fits precisely, displaying excellent build quality. A close look down that sheetmetal, which began life at Chrysler's excellent Brampton, Canada manufacturing facility, reveals not so much as a dent or ding anywhere. And overall, this super slick Mopar conveys a substantial sense of style that's extensive and well-thought.

Chargers have never been safe havens for the meek. And they're almost morally offensive to folks who like their sedans as bland as rice cakes. So, as if to bully critics into submission, Dodge made its seventh generation model even more audacious. At the front of the car, an aggressive crosshair grille hangs a racy “SRT” script between high intensity headlights, chrome-trimmed fog lamps and a functional air splitter. At the sides of that grille, a scalloped profile founds “6.4L HEMI” emblems between custom pin stripes, body-matched mirrors and functional, SRT-specific sills. At the top of that profile, an aluminum hood centers a factory heat extractor and glossy black inlay in front of lightly tinted glass. And behind that glass, a blackened spoiler frames a small diffuser, bright exhaust tips, clean “CHARGER SRT8” emblems and attractive, body-width tail lights.

As we all know, Chrysler's Hemi has never been defined by white noise and empty promises. Straight from the factory the company's stalwart 5.7 liter makes an impressive 370 horsepower, and with the help of SRT, its performance goes from wild to insane! Measuring roughly 392 cubic inches, this Charger's upsized mill utilizes a revised block, aluminum heads and sequential multi-port fuel injection to twist stout 10.9 to 1 compression into 470 horsepower and 470 lb./ft. of torque. Visually, the car's engine compartment comes together just as well as its muscular exterior. Chrysler's install is exceptionally clean; forgoing the current 'plastic dome of doom' engine cover trend in favor of “392 HEMI” branded rail shrouds that resemble tall valve covers. The big block is coated in a nice shade of traditional orange paint, which perfectly complements red inner fenders. And, best of all, this is a Hemi that'll fire up in any weather, drive thousands of miles before anyone needs to turn its bolts, and probably lay waste to any old school muscle car that's brave enough to make a charge.

Straight from Auburn Hills, Chrysler's LX platform was a solid foundation that could easily spawn multiple rear and all-wheel drive applications. And when this Charger's engineering team bolted up a Mercedes S-Class front suspension, threw in a Mercedes E-Class rear suspension and re-christened it “LD”, they created the perfect blend of American attitude and European road manners. The brutal Hemi spins five gears through a paddle-shifted Mercedes 5G-TRONIC transmission. That transmission spins a fresh Getrag limited slip differential, which is equipped with friendly 3.06 gears. The car's 3-mode, SRT-tuned, suspension, which has been upgraded with .75-inch lowering springs, is equipped with standard stability and traction control. Variable-ratio, speed-assisted power steering ensures you'll want to do more than make traditional NASCAR lefts. Braking is handled by red Brembo calipers that, with the help of standard anti-lock software, clamp 14-inch, slotted rotors. The engine breaths through an awesome Borla cat-back system, which exits under the car's big rear bumper. And at the corners of the chassis, forged aluminum wheels spin 245/45ZR20 Goodyear Eagle F1s around bright chrome center caps.

Take a look inside this Dodge and you'll find a comfortable and stylish cockpit that's ready for long road trips and plenty of summertime fun. At the center of the car, Radar Red seats feature pliable suede and Nappa leather surfaces that are trimmed with white accent stitching and clean “SRT” logos. In front of those seats, a driver-oriented dash seals highly detailed gauges behind chrome trim rings and a small “SRT8” plaque. At the center of that dash, an MP3-compatible, Bluetooth-capable stereo combines with SRT Performance Pages to mix auditory stimulation with a multitude of performance valuations. Below that infotainment system, a wide console props an attractive Mopar shifter in front of ample storage space. Beneath that console, like-new carpet anchors “DODGE” branded floor mats behind metal-trimmed foot pedals. At the sides of that carpet, two-tone door panels hang padded armrests between small handles and large Harman/Kardon speakers. In front of the driver, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel spins a flat-bottom rim around cold-touch, “SRT” branded aluminum. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a high dollar muscle car are present and accounted for including cruise control, remote start, remote keyless entry and full power accessories.

Compare our asking price to SRT's website. Now try to build a loaded, showroom-new Charger for less money. Better looking and almost identical in condition, there's just no reason to opt for a more expensive car due to semantics. And that's not even counting the fact that our sedan comes with the same warranty offered by your local Dodge dealership. If you're looking for a great platform with excellent performance to match its stellar looks, it's time you become the proud owner of a 21st century Mopar!
