A vast majority of the metal that comes through our RK Motors Charlotte showroom is either flawless, concours-level show fare or incredibly original, low-mileage garage fodder. But, as awesome as those rare and exclusive classics are, the foundation of this hobby has always been old school stalwarts that we can drive, build on, show off and enjoy. Think about it, when you were a kid, did you dream of towing a pristine, factory-original truck to a field where it would sit and look pretty? No way! You wanted a classy head turner that was striking, cool and expressed your individual tastes. Professionally restored and powered by a stout Chevrolet small block, this custom 1955 Chevrolet 3100 is the kind of fully sorted cruiser that you can fire up, press the go pedal, road trip across the country in, and look incredible while doing it!
If you keep an eye on the collector market, you already know that immaculate truck builds have become extremely popular over the past few years. America's workhorses are finally commanding the prices they deserve and they're only getting started. Great pieces like this 1955 Chevrolet 3100 offer a blend of classic virtues and drivability that will always be attractive to collectors. The beneficiary of a complete restoration by A-car Restorations in Reidsville, Wisconsin, this 3100 retains its classic charm while adding a touch of vintage hot rod swagger. If you're looking for that rare mix of “fun to own” and “great investment” this classic Chevrolet may be your answer.
Up front, the familiar egg-crate chrome grille and massive wraparound chrome front bumper looks excellent against this truck's bright red exterior. The high profile hood features a classic chrome emblem with a red Chevy bowtie in the center. Down the sides of the front fenders you'll find “Chevrolet 3100” emblems hanging just above the famous Chevy V8 logo on each side. Behind the cab, a snap on truck bed cover shields the gorgeous wood bed and stainless skid strips from the elements. At the back of the truck you'll find the words Chevrolet painted black and embedded into the tail gate. Below the gate another chrome wraparound bumper hangs just above the chrome Gibson exhaust tips to finish off the incredible look of the truck. The paint and body work on this truck is better than anything that came out a GM factory in 1950. It's guaranteed to grab attention anywhere you go, from the drive-in to the local cruise night.
Hoist this custom's shaved hood and you'll find a mean, 350 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 that's been completely finished for show and fully built to go! At that top of the small block, a chrome, K&N branded chrome air cleaner forces wind into a 4-barrell carburetor that's juiced by an Edelbrock Pro Flo Fuel Injection system. At the base of that carburetor, an Edelbrock intake sits between chrome Chevrolet-branded valve covers. At the base of those valve covers, loomed Taylor Spiro Pro plug wires snake around coated, full-length headers. And in front of those headers, an attractive pulley system spins a modern power steering pump between a chrome alternator, a polished AC compressor and a polished aluminum radiator. Aesthetically, both the Chevrolet orange mill and its assortment of bright accessories seem right at home inside their smooth, body-matched frame. Those small details ensure this truck looks every bit as good as it runs.
Glance under the custom truck and you'll see the restoration team didn't stop with just the exterior; this might be one of the nicest undersides of a truck we have ever seen. It starts with the Richmond 5-speed that is bolted to the engine that sends power to a Ford 9-inch rear-end equipped with 4.30 gears. Running alongside the drivetrain is the dual exhausts that have been equipped with Borla mufflers to create a fantastic sound, and Gibson chrome exhaust tips on the rear. Stopping power comes courtesy of front power disc brakes and rear power drum brakes. In front of those brakes you'll find color-keyed steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and trim rings that have been wrapped in BF Goodrich Silvertown wide white-wall rubber.
Like the paint and engine bay, some liberties have been taken with the interior in the interest of making it look and feel better than new. On the floor you'll find tan carpet that matches the tan leather bench seat and the tan inserts in the door panels. The Door panels are painted red to match the exterior of the truck and also feature gorgeous chrome handles. Above the leather bench seat is a black rubber headliner along with a chrome rear view mirror. In front of the driver's seat is a two-tone steering wheel that blends the red exterior with the tan color that is throughout the interior. In the center of the wheel you will find a chrome Chevy emblem. Beyond the steering wheel, a triangle shaped instrument cluster keeps an eye on what is happening within the engine bay. In the center of the dash you'll find the controls for the AM/FM/Cassette player and the controls for the air-conditioning. Also in the center you'll find the controls for the 5-speed Richmond transmission sticking through the tan carpet. The reliable power plant under the hood ensures that this truck can be taken on long distance rides like the Hot Rod Power Tour if you want, and the interior ensures that you are comfortable while doing it.
Despite looking surprisingly simple, this 1950 Chevrolet 3100 has historical significance, rugged elegance and vintage hot rod swagger that set it apart from most restored and modified trucks. It plays to nostalgia and Americana that everyone can appreciate and it's a highly drivable truck that feels like vintage hardware. Whether you're racking up more trophies at shows or just spending a Saturday night out on the town, it's guaranteed to be the center of attention wherever you go. Call today!
