Assembled at GM-Norwood, this halcyon Trans Am is the beneficiary of a professional, high dollar restoration that was conducted by Murphy's Classic Auto Restorations in Dover, Ohio. Its buffed and color-sanded pigment, achieved with three coats of Diamont DP20 primer, one coat of Diamont DP21 tinted sealer, six coats of Diamont BASF urethane and four coats of Diamont DC92 clear, pays excellent homage to many original and NOS parts. Phoenix Graphix-supplied Gold Special Edition full outlining stripes trace a Gold Special Edition hood decal to complete the car's transformation from regular 'bird to full-tilt 'Screamin' chicken'. And today, this coupe looks just as good as you'd expect any show worthy F-body to look, featuring classic lines and sizzling aesthetics that are some of the most iconic automotive brandings in history!

Despite minimum brightwork, Special Edition Trans Ams are highly decorated cars which bring new meaning to the word “details”. At the front of this classic, straight and glossy urethane hangs a monochromatic arrowhead between gold headlight inserts that create Pontiac's familiar split-grille face. Behind that face, a “T/A 6.6” shaker leads the eye to tinted glass that's complete with an integrated antenna, an electric defogger and Satin Black frames. At the center of the car, Y88-exclusive T-tops ride above striped door handles, traditional Pontiac fender vents and correct wheel spoilers. And at the back of the car, a straight D80 decklid frames clean, black-trimmed tail lights and bright side-splitter exhaust tips.

Under this coupe's long hood you'll find an original Pontiac V8 that wears a correct “WC” assembly stamp opposite a matching partial VIN. Thanks to government mandated emissions standards, performance had almost been legislated out of existence; and that left the Trans Am suffering a bit of an identity crisis. This bird's W72, punching in at an even 400 cubic inches, combined the largest muscle car engine you could buy with Pontiac's proven 6X heads to produce higher compression and provide enough low end grunt to create one of the fastest pony cars on the market. At the top of the mill, a correct Quadrajet carburetor rides under a familiar shaker scoop. Below that carburetor, GM Corporate Blue paint coats the entire block, excepting cast iron exhaust manifolds and flash-chromed valve covers. The car's clean engine bay and hood are covered in a nice coat of DuPont Imron Semi-Gloss Black. All the hard parts around the motor, from the gold brake booster to the Delco Air climate control, appear to be factory-spec. And, as expected, markings and stamps are just where they should be.

At the bottom of this solid gold F-body, a clean undercarriage tells a long story of excellent maintenance and carefully chosen road time. The car's over-restored floorpans hang glossy Solar pigment of over a Satin Black frame that still retains much of its paint shop shine. Behind the motor, a correct Borg Warner 4-speed sends power to a correct Safe-T-Track rear end that's fitted with standard 3.42 gears. At the ends of the car, a rebuilt WS6 suspension, which includes power steering, thicker sway bars, better shocks and stiffer springs, combines with power front disc and rear drum brakes to provide quick stops and great handling. At the corners of the car, power flows to the pavement through polished Pontiac 'snowflakes' which spin 225/70R15 Goodyear Eagle TRs around correct gold paint and 'gold bird' center caps. There's a fresh and equally correct single-into-dual exhaust system that lends the 400 a throaty but subdued soundtrack. And, based on a quick visual inspection, everything from this Pontiac's 'blue bolt' hardware to its polyurethane bushings appears to be in good, road-ready condition.

Open the car's massive doors and you'll find a correct Camel Tan interior that's centered in virtual miles of Special Edition trim. Original seats are comfortably firm and, carrying high class Lombardy velour, look like they should be in a much more modern, much more expensive offering. In front of those seats, an engine turned instrument panel, completely restored by Just Dashes, hangs crystal clear Rally Gauges above factory climate control and a reconditioned Delco stereo. Below that dash, a Camel Tan console anchors a large storage bin behind a Hurst shifter and chrome power window switches. Below that console, tan carpet, which has been carefully protected by color-keyed floor mats, displays no fading or unraveling. Opposite that carpet, a stain-free headliner is stretched tight around mirrored T-tops. In front of the driver, a gold Formula steering wheel spins around a tilting column. At the sides of the passengers, Camel Tan door panels feature pristine stainless trim and bright chrome handles. And behind the cockpit, a fresh trunk centers a Space Saver spare tire under original decklid decals and a functional courtesy lamp.
