If you're in the market for something fun that's guaranteed to hold its appeal for a very long time, it's hard to go wrong with a lust worthy Vette. America's favorite sports car is finally commanding the respect it deserves. And with awesome classics like this clean '64 roadster mixing red carpet looks with every day drivability, it's not hard to see why. A perfect blend of classic style and modern technology, this handsome C2 is a first rate exercise in old school charm and vintage swagger. And if you're looking for that rare trifecta of 'low maintenance', 'fun to own' and 'great investment potential', it's an awesome way to hit the scene!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Sealed in PPG Concept Rally Red, and topped with fresh black vinyl, this slick Vette is the beneficiary of a comprehensive, ground-up restoration that was conducted by Tony's Muscle Cars of Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania. In addition to near-perfect alignment, the car's body features super sinuous aesthetics that are set off by a black Stinger Stripe. Those striking aesthetics have been professionally massaged into a collection of surfaces that are much nicer than anything that rolled out of the factory. And the result is one seductive, fully sorted classic that looks good on the road and great at the show!
When you think of Corvettes, “classy” usually isn't the first thing that comes to mind. It's not that America's sports car lacks class. It simply floods the conscious with far more appealing descriptors like fast, free and lust-worthy. After all, this C2 was built to lap tracks, not float through a stuffy regimen of teatimes. At the front of the car, bullet-style marker lights, a brilliant bumper and a prominent red, white and black cross-flag emblem cage a body-width, stainless-trimmed grille. At the sides of that grille, '67 Corvette heat extractors ride between traditional door handles, and polished and shielded side pipes. Opposite those pipes, a '67-exclusive Stinger Hood leads the eye to tinted glass that's framed in chrome windshield wipers, fresh stainless trim and a classy bowtie mirror. And behind that mirror, standard, monochromatic taillights illuminate a chrome-trimmed fuel filler, a clean “Corvette Sting Ray” emblem, a chrome-trimmed tag bracket and small, equally brilliant bumpers.
ENGINE
Gaze upon this Chevy's smoothed engine bay and you'll find 6.2 liters of small block fury! Officially known as the Chevrolet Performance LS376, that sweet crate engine twists respectable 10.7 to 1 compression into 525 horsepower and 475 lb./ft. of everyday torque. And despite consistently delivering track-blistering, low-end performance, it revs to 6,600 RPM and regularly achieves over 20 MPG! Up top, a polished air tube and reusable filter element funnel wind in to a factory throttle body and Rally Red, composite intake. That air marries fuel in rectangular-port L92-style heads, which hide high-rate springs under sixth generation Corvette rail covers. That volatile union gets compressed by a nodular crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons. Power is made by a racing-inspired ASA cam that, thanks to better breathing, maximizes intake efficiency. There's a big aluminum radiator that hangs a Mr. Gasket ThermoCap cap above a large-diameter puller fan. A polished serpentine system spins a polished alternator opposite a coated AC compressor. And items like a painted radiator cover, a billet clutch reservoir and a chrome brake booster convey a sense of top-notch detailing.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
With that kind of power on tap, it should come as no surprise that the bottom of this Corvette features a host of noteworthy upgrades. Behind the raucous small block, an American Powertrain-supplied Tremec TKO500 5-speed makes good use of a tough hydraulic clutch. That stout drivetrain rides on a fourth generation Corvette suspension, which is finished with adjustable coil-over-shocks. Turns come courtesy of Detroit Speed power rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by red, power-assisted calipers, which clench a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. And torque meets the pavement via polished C6 Gran Sport wheels, which spin 245/40ZR18 General G-Max radials in front of 275/40ZR18 General G-Max radials. Aesthetically, this Chevy's Rally Red floors are virtually spotless, with a powder-coated Chassis Concepts frame and Cast Silver drivetrain components their only disturbance. And everything, from the car's beefy radiator to its stainless fuel tank, is expertly finished, superbly detailed and ready for action.
INTERIOR
Pop the lightweight doors and you'll find a tweaked leather interior that mixes the best aspects of modern convenience with the best attributes of vintage style. Front and center, Al Knoch fifth generation Corvette buckets wrap full power-adjustment in red ribbing and black bolsters. In front of those seats, a dual-cowl dash hangs a modern clock, Vintage Air climate control and a direct-fit Custom Autosound stereo beside Dakota Digital gauges. At the edges of that dash, sculpted side panels, stitched by Locustdale, Pennsylvania's CJ's Custom Auto Upholstery, feature polished accessory handles. At the bottom of those panels, premium carpet anchors a factory console between a leather-booted shifter and sleek leather armrest. In front of the driver, a polished steering wheel spins a thick rim around a tilting Flaming River column. And behind the passengers, a small storage area features enough room for a weekend getaway.
