And investors clearly agree, since big block mid-year cars tend to provide solid equity year after year. On a purely existential level, there's no doubt those hallowed numbers hold special meaning for many car guys. And we're of the opinion that everyone owes it to themselves to, at least once in their life, own a big block Corvette simply because there's nothing else like it! Well, potential debtors are in luck as this Top Flight classic is a splendid candidate for any collector thanks to a body-off restoration that polished the car to better-than-new condition. And best of all, it's not some me-too retrofit, it's an actual numbers-matching L36/4-speed coupe! So, what are you waiting for? BODYWORK/TRIM

Refinished in correct Elkhart Blue 2-stage, and dashed with a cool Teal Stinger Stripe, this handsome C2 is a refreshing change from the flood of bright red and black Corvettes you see at all the big shows. That said, the car was certainly intended to be a showpiece, as it's coveted NCRS award attests to. And one look at our high resolution photos proves the ground-up rebirth, during which the car was separated from its chassis and fully disassembled, was both thorough and professional. Of course, restorations are generally much more successful when they begin with a solid foundation. And since this Vette was parked in 1980 and essentially preserved until its pre-2010 refurb, it certainly proved an excellent starting point. Today, the soft glow of the car's pigment highlights a sweet profile that somehow seems more appropriate than run-of-the-mill resto-mods and pro-tourers. And overall, this Chevy is fabulous in person and exquisite throughout.

Thanks to a renewed dedication to motorsports, and heavy influence from the original Mako Shark concept, the second generation of America's sports car presents an aggressive, hard-edged appearance. At the front of this classic, bullet-style marker lights, show worthy bumpers and a vivid cross-flag emblem cage a broad, stainless-trimmed grille. Behind that grille, an aggressive Stinger Hood props sinister “427” emblems in front of chip-free glass that's traced in straight stainless and cleared by mirrored wipers. At the sides of that hood, small door handles and a classy mirror float above simple heat extractors and black-trimmed rocker guards. And at the back of the car, monochromatic tail lamps and two more show worthy bumpers split the difference between a teal-trimmed fuel filler, a correct “Corvette STING RAY” emblem, a chrome-trimmed tag bracket and polished stainless exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Tilt the car's hood and you'll find a 390 horsepower, 427 cubic inch big block that backs a correct “IL” suffix stamp and matching 111564 partial VIN with a '67-exclusive 3904351 casting number. At the top of the Chevy Orange mill, a familiar Holley carburetor rides between a chrome, correctly decaled air cleaner and bright stainless fuel line. Below that carb, a color-keyed intake funnels a perfect air/fuel mixture in to tough, cast iron heads, which are capped by stamped and painted valve covers. When the juice hits the cylinders, reliable, chrome-capped ignition sparks fresh, stainless-sleeved wires while a stock cam and rotating assembly push spent gases through oversprayed exhaust manifolds. Cooling for that fire is provided by a beefy radiator, which hangs in front of pliable GM hoses and reproduction tower clamps. And, aesthetically, this Chevy's tidy engine compartment is exceptionally well done, framing a correct alternator, rebuilt master cylinder and reproduction Delco battery in clean, Satin Black surfacing.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Not surprisingly, someone spent a lot of time carefully restoring the bottom of this exclusive Vette. And, given the car has likely traveled mere weekend miles since it rolled out of the shop, everything is clean, fresh and virtually weather-free. Behind the awesome big block, a tough Muncie 4-speed sports a correct 3885010 casting number, a Muncie (P) assembled on February (B) 3rd (03), 1967 (7) build stamp and a matching 111564 partial VIN. That original transmission twists a factory-correct rear end that's fitted with a posi-traction differential and spry, 3.55 gears. Turns come courtesy of standard manual steering. Four disc brakes provide solid, confident stops. And all that reliable hardware rolls on conservative Rally Wheels that spin 7.75-15 BF Goodrich Silvertowns around stainless trim rings and polished center caps.

INTERIOR

Inside this Chevy you'll find a correct Dark Blue interior that, aesthetically, seems like a pretty close match to the car's cool Stinger Stripe. Tight vinyl seats frame a traditional console, which anchors a chrome-trimmed e-brake behind a requisite chrome shifter. In front of that console, a 2-tone dash plants a correct Delco AM/FM radio beneath factory-spec telemetry. Under that dash, translucent floor mats protect fade-free carpet. At the edges of that rug, clean chrome hardware dots monochromatic door panels. And the driver stays connected to the road through a traditional, satin-spoke steering wheel.
