----------

Let's talk cars and entertainment for a minute. In the world of second-generation Chargers, there's a pronounced stylistic split. The car's character seems perfectly suited to a sinister coat of black, as personified in movies like Bullitt, the original Fast and Furious and, more recently, the cheesy cult classic Drive Angry. But there's simply no denying the outrageous swagger of the most well-known Charger of all time: Hazzard's General Lee. That's a stark contrast to other mechanical stars. Take Doc's DeLorean, for example. A DeLorean is pretty much a DeLorean no matter how many tiny tweaks an owner employs. Bandit Trans Ams, while specifically black, exist within a whole spectrum of colorful and equally brazen Special Edition cars. But in the world of Charger, it seems to be no color or all color... Authoritative and sophisticated are certainly descriptors that can be applied to this '69 R/T. Wrapping a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration around a tough 3-speed driveline and 472 cubic inches of fire-breathing Hemi, it's the quintessential gearhead power suit! Looking for some tough Motown metal that's tempered to perfection? Look no further!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The beneficiary of $107K of restoration that was completed by Hodge Restorations of Inman, South Carolina, this authentic R/T coupe is a no-holds-barred classic that decks $20K of hot Arruzza Hemi in savage MoPar attitude. The car's comprehensive nut-and-bolt rebuild began when its solid fuselage was stripped all the way to bare metal. Once that metal was successfully married to new quarters and a fresh trunk floor, everything was smoothed, sanded and carefully aligned. After a bit of primer and prep, inky black 2-stage was stacked on a virtually flawless profile. When that profile was completely sealed and fully buffed, a monochromatic deck stripe was aligned behind a tight vinyl roof. And, in late 2010, this Dodge stormed the boulevard as a positively evil resto-mod that tempers an old school, no-nonsense demeanor with new age panache!

1969 was a notable year in American pop culture. Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, Woodstock became a household name and Dodge released what is probably the most iconic muscle car in its long history of performance. Sure, you really can't go wrong driving any Charger. But when it comes to popularity, few will argue the incredible significance of a '69-vintage B-Body. At the front of this coupe, a silver-trimmed grille hangs a prominent “Charger R/T” script above a polished bumper and round, fratzog-branded parking lamps. Above that grille, a sculpted hood plants small turn signal indicators in front of clean glass that's framed in dent-free stainless trim. At the sides of that bonnet, a faceted profile anchors chrome Chrysler door handles and monochromatic “HEMI” call-outs between small marker lamps, a traditional mirror and a familiar 'pit stop' fuel filler. And at the back of that profile, a second polished bumper centers factory guards between bright taillights, a vivid “R/T” emblem and polished stainless exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Toss the hood and you'll find 472 cubic inches of Hemi fury! Supplied by the pros at Pittsboro, North Carolina's Arruzza Performance, that balanced, blueprinted and dyno-ed mill utilizes an Eagle crank, forged Manley I-beams, forged Ross pistons and a custom Cam Motion cam to twist 600 horsepower into 590 lb./ft. of pump-gas torque. That star-studded lineup lives in a Hemi Orange Mopar Performance block, which hides aluminum Stage Five Engineering heads under coated valve covers. Naturally, those heads are finished with some of the best stuff on the market, with Crower lifters, stainless valves and Smith Brothers chromoly pushrods complementing Keith Black stands, Indy Maxx roller rockers, Isky cups and Comp double coil springs. Custom Holley 600s, a polished Hemi Head air cleaner and a Stage Five dual-quad intake supply a perfect mixture of fuel and air. Compression is sparked by 8mm Taylor plug wires, which are snapped onto an MSD Pro-Billet distributor that's sequenced to a Mallory Promaster coil. Exhaust leaves via coated long-tube headers. And a big aluminum radiator utilizes a Perma-Cool pusher fan to keep everything cool. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks great, from its glossy fenders to its modern Wilwood master cylinder and MoPar-topped battery. And functionally, details like polished breathers, billet brackets, a billet timing set and a Speed Pro high volume oil pump result in big power and great acoustics.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Lift this massaged B-Body and you'll find an undercoated undercarriage that's a product of professional grade restoration and some of the hobby's best componentry. Behind the Hemi, a proven A727 TorqueFlite 3-speed twists a tough Dana 60 axle. Under that drivetrain, a Firm Feel torsion bar suspension makes optimal use of modern power steering. Abrupt stops are supplied by big Wilwood calipers, which squeeze a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Exhaust rolls from the aforementioned headers in to large-diameter pipes, which float an H-shape crossover in front of throaty Dynomax mufflers. And at the corners of the chassis, polished Billet Specialties wheels spin 215/65R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts in front of 295/50R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts.

INTERIOR

Inside this awesome Dodge, a mostly stock interior is clean, well fitted and surprisingly stylish. During the restoration, the car's factory buckets were replaced with custom-wrapped SCAT PROCAR units. In front of those thrones, a wood-trimmed dash hangs factory telemetry beside modern air conditioning and old school Plymouth Solid State audio. At the bottom of that dash, fresh carpet centers a small fire extinguisher and stylish Charger R/T floor mats on a wood-trimmed console that's finished with a factory shifter. At the sides of that carpet, fade-free door panels hang pliable armrests and bright stainless trim under round, orange-tinged “Charger” emblems. In front of the driver, a wood steering wheel laps a polished horn and satin spokes. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk is clean and spacious.
