Description

Trucks are cool.

As simple and random as that statement might seem, it's probably one of the biggest truths in automotive history. Ford is currently in the process of launching a fresh F-Series that, among a slew of technology and convenience updates, features six different grille designs. Why are we telling you this? Well, simply put, mass-produced products don't receive such scrutiny and attention to detail unless they're incredibly important. And you can't get much more important than an offering that's substantially profitable, competes in one of the most contested markets in the world and is a perennial best seller. Lest you believe trucks are inconsequential in the collector car realm, a simple check of recent sales will prove otherwise. SUVs like the Ford Bronco and International Scout are steadily gaining value while stalwarts like the Chevy Suburban and Toyota Land Cruiser continue to provide solid returns. That universal and apparently boundless appeal is one reason why putting a little money on a clean classic like this cool F100 isn't a bad idea. The beneficiary of comprehensive restoration, this awesome pickup wraps a proven V8 and attractive blue and white upholstery in a timeless platform. And if you're in the market for some standout Americana, it's a perfect candidate for miles of parade and years of display!

BODYWORK/TRIM

A luxurious Lariat that's benefitted from a detailed, frame-off restoration, this familiar Ford wears traditional White 2-stage under a collection of well-placed details. At the front of those digs, a stylized grille founds inset headlights behind correct Lariat buckets, clean parking lamps and a guarded bumper. At the top of that grille, a “F O R D” branded hood leads the eye to pristine glass, which floats a sliding rear window between bright drip rails, matte wipers, bright ventvisors and polished mirrors. At the sides of that hood, a tough profile parallels standard Race Track Trim with chrome door handles, exclusive Lariat bed rails and a correct array of “F-100 RANGER” and “LARIAT” badging. And at the back of the truck, traditional taillights stretch an ornate Lariat tailgate over a mirrored bumper.

ENGINE

Hoist the hood and you'll find a 302 cubic inch V8 that's fully rebuilt and dressed to impress. Introduced in 1968 to align motorsports expertise with production prowess, Ford's stout Windsor block remained one of Dearborn's hottest factory options for many years. At the top of the Ford Blue mill, a factory air cleaner passes air through a standard 2-barrel carburetor that's perched on a cast iron intake. Atomized octane floods correct, cast iron heads, which are capped by stamped, Ford Blue valve covers. At the front of those covers, a vintage AC compressor spins in unison with a correct fan while a correct radiator keeps the block cool. Spark comes courtesy of color-keyed Ford Racing plug wires, which are sequenced to a traditional points distributor. And the truck's clean engine bay is dotted with quality ancillaries like a rebuilt brake booster and a fresh canister jack.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Naturally, that clean, road-ready mill precedes a clean, road-ready chassis. Everything starts with a sturdy, factory-spec frame that rolls on a fully rebuilt suspension. Behind the reliable Windsor, a rebuilt C4 3-speed spins a tough 9-inch axle that's finished with road-ready gears. Factory-style power steering makes parking easy and turns a cinch. Stops are provided by power-assisted discs and drums. Cast iron exhaust manifolds feed aluminized pipes, which are wired through throaty mufflers. And power meets the pavement through polished 'bullet hole' rims, which twist 235/75R15 Cornell 1000 whitewalls around Satin Black center caps.

INTERIOR

When you pop this pickup's doors, you'll find a comfortable cockpit that, in traditional truck fashion, features tastefully conservative trim. Top dead center, a padded and painted dash, complete with attractive Ranger trim, plants an old school 8-track player between fully rebuilt telemetry, a digital clock and controls for the truck's factory air conditioning. Opposite that ledge, a striped Lariat bench complements striped Lariat door panels. Beneath that throne, “Ford” branded floor mats protect Ford Blue carpet. And the driver traces turns through a wood-trimmed steering wheel.

The classic truck market has never been better, and offerings like this cool F100 are a perfect testament why. With a reliable, well-dressed drivetrain, a comfortable interior and attractive factory lines, this Ford is guaranteed to gain fans everywhere it goes. Looking for a standout cruiser that'll provide years of great memories? Don't miss the chance to add this sweet pickup to your collection!
