BODYWORK/TRIM

Fully sorted and ready to roll, this super cool classic recently received a roof-to-rocker makeover that's set off by smooth Subterranean Gray Metallic 2-stage. Under that high-quality pigment, a worldly color cribbed from GM's 2014 catalog, an incredibly straight fuselage makes good use of new fenders, new running boards and a fresh tailgate. That massaged profile features better-than-factory alignment that's seated in even planes and tight gaps. And that carefully finished body presents very well, supplementing timeless blue collar aesthetics with serious street rod swagger.

Naturally, the truck's ground-up rebuild included a roster of fresh bolt-ons. At the front of its body, a familiar chrome grille hangs clear parking lamps between a polished bumper, halogen headlights and a Chevrolet-branded hood. Behind that bonnet, a split windshield leads a stainless-trimmed greenhouse that's traced in two polished wipers and two polished mirrors. Beneath those mirrors, painted running boards frame chrome door handles. And behind those handles, a massaged bed centers fresh planks and a flush fuel filler between a chainless gate, polished taillights and a custom roll pan.

ENGINE

In the name of performance and reliability, it's common practice for somewhat traditional street rods to employ souped-up versions of proven powertrains. So this Chevy's previous owner decided to source a familiar Vortec 5300 small block and put all 300 of it horses to excellent use! At the front of the all-aluminum mill, a clean Spectre filter element funnels wind through a polished tube to a trusty GM throttle body. That oxygen mixes with fossils thanks to GM electronic fuel injection. That mixture combusts in lightweight 799 heads, which hide under an unassuming, “VORTEC” branded cowl. Beneath those heads, coated shorty headers snake through sleeved plug wires. Charge is provided by a GM accessory drive, which spins a modern alternator opposite a modern AC compressor. Cooling comes courtesy of a beefy aluminum radiator that's complete with a polished support, a polished expansion tank and a large Cooling Components puller fan. And the truck's massaged, body-matched engine compartment highlights a roster of great accessories, like trick dipsticks and a polished brake booster.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

The spry 327 sends power to a buttery 4L60E 4-speed, which spins a 10-bolt axle that's finished with aggressive gears. That tough drivetrain pushes a full Chevy S-10 chassis, which mixes traditional coil and leaf springs with front and rear sway bars. Tracking is provided by power-assisted steering. Quick stops are a cinch thanks to four power-assisted calipers and four vented rotors. At the center of the truck's undercoated floors, aluminized exhaust pipes trace Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. And at the corners of its chassis, stainless-trimmed Rally Wheels twist 235/60R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts in front of 255/60R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts.

INTERIOR

When you pop this pickup's doors, you'll find a comfortable leather cockpit that's simple yet stylish. Top dead center, a painted and stainless-trimmed dash hangs electroluminescent telemetry between a Pioneer CD player and hardware for cool air conditioning. The passengers park on a broad bench seat, which anchors fresh lap belts above a body-matched base. Under that foundation, premium carpet floats piped floor mats around large kick speakers. At the sides of that flooring, custom door panels hang small armrests and traditional handles beneath painted window frames. Above those frames, a billet mirror leads a sculpted headliner. And in front of the driver, a polished, bowtie-branded steering wheel spins a half-wrapped rim around a tilting column.

Combining great looks and stout small block power with a modern driveline and an air conditioned cockpit, this Chevy is as desirable as it is reliable.
