Description

To automotive purists, there's nothing better than a crisp, fully documented muscle car that's been lovingly restored to factory specifications. For some, it's about preserving history. For others, it's about the unique feel of classic motoring and escapism to simpler times. Decorated by AACA, and certified by Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance, this concours-restored, numbers-matching Z/28 is about as pure as collector cars come. Documented with an original Protect-O-Plate and an official NCRS Shipping Data Report, it's believed to be 1 of only 38 red on red Z/28s produced for the 1969 model year. And if you're a discerning collector car enthusiast who's looking for nothing but the best, it's a Garnet Red gem with unmatched polish!

RESTORATION AND APPEARANCE

Part luck and part skill, “best” is an interesting phenomenon. This incredible Camaro was lucky enough to be a rare car from the factory, but that legacy wouldn't be so endearing unless it was combined with skilled rehabilitation. Take a close look at our high-resolution photos and you'll see the intrinsic quality in the car's detailed, concours restoration. With solid panels present and accounted for, this Chevy's classic '60s profile was carefully straightened into better-than-new condition. Once that comprehensive metalwork transitioned from the garage bay to the paint booth, correct Garnet Red 2-stage was accented with Tuxedo Black Rally Stripes and sealed in glossy clear. And today, this exclusive Z/28 rolls as a thoroughbred head turner that drops jaws just as easily as it wins trophies!

Restored with Chevrolet's popular Rally Sport Package, this timeless coupe is much more stylish than typical, run-of-the-mill Camaros. At the front of its body, a “Z/28” branded grille hides halogen headlights behind a polished bumper, a correct chin spoiler and 1969-exclusive parking lamps. Above that grille, a Camaro-branded header leads the eye to a correct Cowl Induction Hood, which anchors bright “302” scripts in front of clean glass that's seated in straight stainless frames. Those frames reflect traditional drip rails, traditional door handles and a correct mirror. Opposite those rails, correct, black-trimmed rockers found bright wheel lips between ornate fender emblems, optional quarter gills and small marker lamps. And at the back of the car, a “Z/28” branded valance hangs Rally Sport taillights between a guarded bumper, Rally Sport reverse lamps and a Camaro-branded decklid that's finished with a correct D80 spoiler.

POWER

Hoist the car's era-defining hood and you'll find a 302 cubic inch Chevrolet small block that, according to Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance, is the car's original, numbers-matching engine. Straight from the General this exclusive package utilized high-flow, rectangular-port heads, a forged steel crank, forged steel rods and forged aluminum pistons to twist stout 11 to 1 compression into more than 350 horsepower! At the top of the dressed and detailed mill, a black, single-snorkel air cleaner swirls wind in to a correct Winters intake thanks to a familiar Holley carburetor. At the sides of that intake, authentic 'double hump' heads hang finned valve covers over shielded exhaust manifolds. At the back of those heads, a mandatory points distributor shoots spark through fresh Packard TV R Suppression cables. Naturally, the raucous V8's ancillary components are on-point, with fresh GM hoses, a Delco-topped battery and a fresh Delco Moraine brake booster accompanying a correct alternator and era-correct smog equipment. And an evenly sprayed combination of Chevy Orange skin and Satin Black framing is capped by full hood insulation.

POWER MANAGEMENT

Back in 1969, the only transmission you could get with your Z/28 was a tough Muncie 4-speed, and that's exactly what lives behind this Camaro's mean small block. That date-correct Rock Crusher spins power to an original, MacNeish-certified 12-bolt that paired a posi-traction differential with big, 3.73 gears straight from the factory. That drivetrain rides a fully rebuilt and correctly tagged suspension that's lead by correct power steering. A correct power front disc and rear drum brake system makes excellent use of 4-piston, Corvette-style calipers. That chassis is dissected by a beefy, true-dual exhaust system, which follows a correct, transversely mounted muffler with polished stainless tips. Everything rolls on 15-inch Rally Wheels, which spin E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GTs around dent-free trim rings and correct turbine center caps. And the bottom of this Camaro has, like the car's engine bay, been carefully restored to pristine, show-ready condition.

INTERIOR

Medium Red vinyl is certainly an interesting choice for a Garnet Red pony car, and, in the collector car market, interest always brings value. This Camaro's Standard cockpit begins with pleated vinyl seats that, restored with optional headrests, look and feel fantastic. In front of those seats, a 1969-exclusive dash hangs a correct AC tachometer above a correct Delco AM/FM radio. At the base of that dash, a wood-trimmed console founds a chrome Hurst shifter behind factory 4-pack accessory gauges. That seat, dash and console trifecta is completely framed by a tight headliner, shielded carpet and correct Standard door panels. In front of the driver, a requisite Rally Wheel laps a red, white and blue horn button. And behind the passengers, a correctly restored trunk hides correct tools and a full-size spare tire beneath fresh decklid decals.
