BODYWORK & TRIM

Detailing is crucial on a replica because that's where a lot of cars start to disappoint. Fortunately, you can tell the overall impression of one of these classics from about five feet away. And naturally, this Cobra hits all the right visuals! At the front of the car, an oval bumper hangs polished overriders between chrome-trimmed headlights, mesh grilles and bullet-style parking lamps. A small hood anchors a riveted scoop between locking latches and a colorful Cobra header emblem. When the weather takes a turn, a full canvas top hangs Lexan side windows and latches to a chrome-trimmed windshield. ENGINE

Tilt this roadster's lightweight hood and you'll find a hot Windsor small block that, when dyno-ed with a 4-barrel Demon carburetor, twisted a hearty 481 horsepower into 450 lb./ft. of tire-killing torque! Now, building in that Demon-themed disclaimer was more a precaution than pretense, since this Cobra now 'gets by' with 8-stack Weber induction. Opposite those polished pipes, a Jim Inglese Weber Carburation intake floods a seasoned, pre-1974 Ford block. In addition to being thermal cleaned, bored and power honed, that iron mill was shot blasted, magnafluxed, align honed and true-decked. A computer-balanced Scat crank spins steel H-beam rods beneath Speed Pro Performance pistons that are finished with plasma moly rings. Those pistons pump CNC-ported Air Flow Research heads, which cage custom pushrods and aluminum roller rockers under a chrome cap, a chrome breather and throwback Ford Racing valve covers. Between those heads, a custom-grind hydraulic roller cam spins an MSD Pro-Billet distributor, which is sequenced between fresh Taylor plug wires and a hot MSD Blaster 2 coil. At the front of the engine, billet March pulleys spin a reliable Weiand water pump between a polished expansion tank and true roller timing components. Those ancillaries feed a canted radiator, which fronts two electric puller fans. Ceramic-coated headers evacuate spent gases in to the aforementioned side-pipes. A roster of well-planned details includes ARP studs, Clevite bearings, a Mr. Gasket fuel pressure gauge and a high performance Melling oil pump. And, like the car's spry driveline, the raucous V8 was professionally installed by the pros at Performance Engineering in Hamilton, Ohio.

DRIVETRAIN & SUSPENSION

One of the best things about buying any high quality replica is the modern hardware underneath. Fully sorted and ready to roll, this roadster's Superformance heavy wall Jig-welded frame and fully independent suspension are poised to challenge the toughest turns you can find! At the center of those bones, a rugged Tremec 3550 5-speed utilizes a steel, SFI-approved flywheel to twist an 8.8-inch Ford axle around 3.73 gears and a posi-trac differential. Turns come courtesy of manual rack-and-pinion steering. Solid stops are provided by power-assisted Wilwood calipers. Torque meets the tarmac through alloy Knock-Offs, which twist 255/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 295/50R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As. And details like braided fluid lines and a deep-sump Canton oil pan round out an otherwise impressive build.

INTERIOR

Cobra interiors have always been stylish and simple, and one look inside this roadster reveals just how serious the car's aspirations are when it comes to being driver-focused. Buff bucket seats stretch tight leather hides under sturdy Diest Safety harnesses. In front of those seats, a leather-wrapped dash hangs a clean combination of Smiths and Lucas telemetry between a locking glovebox and metal “AC” foot pedals. At the sides of that dash, lightweight doors found polished poppers behind simple panels. Below those doors, clean carpet centers a booted e-brake and polished shifter between a polished fire extinguisher and colorful, Cobra-themed floor mats. The driver spins a polished steering wheel, which twists a striking wood rim around an “AC” branded horn button. And the passenger stows cargo in a fully finished trunk.
