Ground Up Restored Mustang GT Convertible 289 V8 4bbl Auto PS
When it comes to universal appeal, few cars bring it quite like the Mustang. While a lot of its competitors placed an emphasis on speed, style, or some other singular piece of the puzzle, Detroit's original pony car did its best to be everything to everyone. And a prime example of that 'best all-around' mindset is this charming drop-top. Founded on the proven principle of factory-correct, it wraps timeless Ford style around a reliable 3-speed and 289 cubic inches of all-American V8. Looking for some choice vintage muscle to take to the streets or the show? Check out this sublime pony!
APPEARANCE
The beneficiary of a 3.5-year, ground-up restoration that was completed in late 2014, this slick Ford features a seamless layer of smooth red pigment that's been highlighted by classy GT stripes and sealed in a glossy clear. Those great aesthetics are the result of lots of labor, big money and fresh Mustang Barn floorpans. And today, the car rolls as a top-notch classic that turns the best attributes of Motor City history in to glorious road trips and years of weekend adventures!
With its great proportions and sculpted panels, Ford's original Mustang is an inherently attractive design. And with today's world-class restoration techniques, it has become an excellent canvas for any skilled builder to create a seriously nice car. At the front this drop-top, an attractive Pony Grille hangs classy driving lamps between clean headlights, chrome-trimmed parking lamps and a mirrored bumper. Behind that grille, a “F O R D” branded hood leads the eye to pristine glass, which props a fresh canvas roof behind polished wipers and a polished frame. At the sides of that hood, a compact profile plants chrome cove trim beneath stylish mirrors, factory door handles and ornate fender emblems. And at the back of that profile, a second mirrored bumper frames iconic taillights, polished exhaust tips and a fashionable Mustang GT fuel filler.
POWER
'Keep it simple' is a good philosophy when it comes to performance and reliability. And the builders of this top notch Mustang did exactly that by bolting a familiar 289 under the car's long red hood. At the top of that fully rebuilt mill, a painted and decaled air cleaner funnels wind in to a big 4-barrel carburetor. Below that carb, a factory intake feeds factory heads that are capped by stamped, Ford Blue valve covers. In front of those heads, a reliable points distributor shoots fire through fresh Radio Resistance wires, which snake around fully restored exhaust manifolds. In front of those wires, FoMoCo V-belts spins a rebuilt alternator opposite factory power steering. And at the front of those belts, a factory fan cools a factory radiator. Aesthetically, the Ford Blue block sits in a completely restored engine bay that's detailed with Satin Black paint. And nice pieces like Satin Black brace bars and a pliable FoMoCo washer bag provide subtle visual punch!
PERFORMANCE
Behind the car's reliable powerplant, a rebuilt Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed drives a rebuilt Ford axle. That versatile drivetrain rolls on a factory independent front and solid axle rear suspension. At the front of that chassis, factory power steering makes for easy turns. Competent stops are provided by a predictable combination of disc and drum brakes. Between those binders, aluminized exhaust shuttles spent gases through an H-shaped crossover and Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. And power meets the pavement through attractive Styled Steel Wheels, which spin 195/75R14 Coker Classic redlines around body-matched center caps.
COMFORT
Open the doors and you'll find a crisp Pony Interior that's clean, functional and very attractive. At the center of that cockpit, a factory bench follows modern TMI buckets that, in addition to keeping a correct Pony theme, wrap exaggerated bolsters in color-keyed stitching. In front of those seats, a correct, wood-trimmed dash hangs correct, 5-dial telemetry above modern audio, correct pedals and a modern Sunpro temperature gauge. Below that dash, a polished shifter surfs a long console, which floats on like-new carpet that's protected by Mustang-themed floor mats. Opposite that shifter, modern kick speakers lead molded door panels, which found correct pistol grip handles in front of correct courtesy lamps. In front of the driver, a correct, wood-rimmed steering wheel twists speed-drilled spokes around a red-detailed horn button. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk hides a full-size spare tire.
When it comes to maximizing the amount of metal your money buys, you simply can't go wrong with a timeless pony car. Thanks to its thorough restoration, this awesome Ford is a great driving piece that's fun, historic and reliable. If you're looking for a stylish classic that commands respect on both the boulevard and the show field, this red-hot Mustang is just your style!
