SUPER CHEVY'S SUPER CHEVY
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration, this rally-esque panther is a former Super Chevy feature car and the basis for the book Swap LS Engines into Camaros & Firebirds. Presently, the car wears a fresh coat of brilliant blue 2-stage that was sprayed in late 2018. Under that pigment, solid body panels align well, presenting the kind of fit and finish that's common on high level builds. That alignment serves as an excellent canvas for subtle silver stripes. And those stripes feature bold “BLUE HOUR” callouts that allude to that perfect time during dawn and dusk when everything is cast in a magical twilight hue.
Chevrolet's first-generation Camaro is a handsome piece that, with its distinct absence of excess, accelerated a new era of Motor City style. At the front of this tastefully modified F1, a shaved and black-trimmed grille hangs clear parking lamps between color-keyed halo headlights and a traditional D80 spoiler. Above that grille, a 2-inch Cowl Induction Hood folds between a shaved header and smoked glass that's cased in straight trim and polished wipers. At the sides of that glass, a clean profile floats traditional door handles and a bowtie-stamped mirror amid shaved rockers, shaved emblems and filled markers. And at the back of the car, an adjustable whale tail spoiler shades a factory bumper, a billet fuel filler, a seamless valance and Eddie Motorsports tail lamps that are finished with bright LED panels.
MAST MOTORSPORTS POWER
What good is all that 'show' if you can't back it up with a little 'go'? Pull this Chevy's pins and you'll find 416 cubic inches of massaged LS3 power. Sourced directly from the pros at Mast Motorsports, that brutal mill utilizes a 4.070-inch bore and a 4.00-inch stroke to twist 592 dyno-proven horsepower into 525 lb./ft. of track-scorching torque. At the top of the all-aluminum beast, a TPiS-branded air tube distances a 90mm DBW throttle body from a remote, reusable filter element. Behind that body, a factory GM intake parallels choice Aeromotive fuel rails and snazzy Mast Motorsports valve covers. Those covers cap CNC-ed Mast Motorsports heads, which help a custom-grind Mast Motorsports cam breathe through long Stainless Works headers. Charge comes courtesy of a modern alternator, which, along with a coated AC compressor, spins a smooth GM serpentine drive. Cooling is provided by a beefy AutoRad radiator, which, along with integrated puller fans and a matching AutoRad expansion tank, rides an aluminum core support. And dress up items include a polished brake booster, a billet clutch reservoir, Fesler fender braces, Eddie Motorsports hood supports and an aluminum-trimmed firewall.
ONE SERIOUS BUILD
The LS3's power gets funneled through a Tremec T56 Magnum that, modified by Rockland Gear, is capable of handling 1,200 horsepower and 1,000 lb./ft. of torque. That Tranzilla, kicked by a hydraulic RAM clutch and an aluminum flywheel, channels torque to a tough Bear's Performance 9-inch that's finished with a Strange center section, a posi-traction differential and big, 3.89 gears. That pumpkin pushes a full Speedtech suspension that follows a thick sway bar with a tough Panhard bar, a sturdy torque arm, tubular control arms and adjustable RideTech coil-overs. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by power-assisted Baer 6P calipers, which use quality Russell fluid lines to squeeze 14-inch drilled and slotted rotors. At the center of the floor, big stainless pipes charge an H-shaped crossover, which feeds polished stainless mufflers that, in traditional SCCA fashion, dump right in front of the car's 12-inch rear tires. All that mechanical goodness rolls on attractive Forgeline GX3s, which spin 275/35R18 Falken Azenis in front of 315/30R18 Falken Azenis. And behind this Chevy's carefully installed mini tubs, a big Rick's fuel tank features three pickups that ensures the car is never starved of fuel during hard cornering.
EXACTLY WHAT IT NEEDS TO BE
Open this F1's doors and you'll find a stylish black interior that feels like an island of track-ready bliss. The driver and one passenger perch on red-stitched Corbeau Legacy buckets that are laced with suede inserts and 5-point RCi harnesses. In front of those seats, a monochromatic dash hides 18-circuit American Autowire wiring behind pushbutton ignition, Stack ST8130 telemetry, Vintage Air climate control and Bluetooth-capable Infinity audio. A custom, 4-point roll bar, which discreetly aligns with the car's quarter windows, hangs a small fire extinguisher in front of a custom rear seat delete. And the driver stays hooked to the track through billet pedals, a billet shifter and a flat-bottom NRG steering wheel that laps a tilting Ididit column.
Well-built, fully detailed and attention grabbing in every way, this Camaro backs a lot of show with a whole lot of go. In summary, it's what every car guy wants: speed, style and endless good times! If you're ready to bring home one of the coolest Chevys on the market, free up some garage space and give us a call!
