Description

Sometimes different is good. This incredible pick-up is, literally, brilliant proof of that philosophy. Draping a roster of racy modifications in sophisticated Oxblood paint, this all-steel Ford stands out not because of what's familiar, but because of what isn't. Of course, for a car to compete for an honor like America's Most Beautiful Roadster, everything HAS to be flawless. From the bodywork, to the powertrain, to the interior, there's simply nowhere shoddy workmanship can hide. And rest assured, with a custom chassis, a professional grade driveline and 429 cubic inches of Kaase Boss Nine power, this exceptional street rod is an all-American stunner. Looking for a unique classic that's road ready, show-ready and just plain battle-ready? Here's the perfect way to create a one-car car show!

STRETCH YOUR DEFINITION OF STYLE

First off, kudos to designer Troy Ladd of Hollywood Hot Rods, who chose Brookville Roadster's Lakester Pickup body instead of a more famous and ubiquitous coupe or roadster. No doubt all '32 Fords are cool, but it's always nice to see a truly unique build, right? Right! That said, you really can't argue with the clean lines of Dearborn's quintessential hot rod, and this pickup plants its solid steel on an extended chassis that incorporates a longer Brookville Model A bed to create even better proportions. See, one advantage of building Brookville's Lakester pickup is its inclusion of a slightly larger cabin. However, that creates the compromise of a shorter bed. The creators of this pickup didn't like that compromise, so they put a lot of work into extending the truck's wheelbase and chassis. Custom PPG Oxblood 2-stage, sprayed by Stephen Cognata at Northridge, California's The Paint Shop, is deep and rich, casting serene, unbroken reflections. And there's plenty of excellent brightwork thanks to West Hollywood's Faith Plating.

Because of the builders' acute attention to detail, this sweet show queen really puts the “class” in classic. At the front of the truck's slick body, a subtle tube bumper bends around a custom Dan Fink Deluxe grille, which rides inside a quality Vintique shell. That shell, branded with a custom Hollywood Hot Rods emblem, floats between a familiar Rootlieb hood and curved Neolite H4 head lamps that feature integrated turn indicators. At the back of that hood, a modified Duvall windshield dodges a functional cowl vent between handle-free doors that are hung on polished hinges. Opposite those hinges, Honduras Mahogany bed strips, sourced from Cormark International, prop a dressed Rootleib fuel tank on polished stainless skid strips. And those strips flow to a “Ford” stamped tailgate, which hangs sleeved chains above stainless-trimmed taillights and a second tube bumper.

EMBRACE YOUR LOVE OF POWER

Back in 2014, when we were building RK527 to follow the Hot Rod Power Tour, we thought it'd be pretty crazy and undeniably cool to shove a massive Jon Kaase Racing engine between the fenders of a first-generation Mustang. Today, we're happy to report that 'pretty crazy and undeniably cool' has been taken to a whole new level by this incredible, Kaase Nine-powered pickup! The truck's brutal Boss Nine V8 twists easy 9.8 to 1 compression into 517 dyno-proven rear-wheel horsepower and 534 lb./ft. of rear-wheel torque. At the top of the cast iron mill, polished BBR Pure Performance filters drop wind into C. Cook Enterprises stacks that are wired with FAST electronic fuel injection. Those funnels feed aluminum Kaase heads, which prop billet breathers on polished and color-keyed valve covers. A forged Lunati crank pumps precise Diamond pistons under a COMP hydraulic roller cam. At the sides of those pistons, polished stainless tubes form custom shorty headers. At the front of that cam, a hot MSD distributor sequences spark between a dressed coil and loomed wires. A polished pulley spins a polished fan while a speed-drilled bracket secures a dressed alternator. And a custom radiator, sourced from The Brassworks, hangs a body-matched shroud below a polished cap and a polished water tube. Coated in custom PPG pigment, the big engine looks fantastic contrasting the car's spotless Oxblood bay. And everything, from its Aeromotive fuel components and FAST XFI ECU to its proven Powermaster starter and Dan Olson oil pan, gleefully implies prodigious power!

CONFIRM YOUR EXPECTATION OF EXCELLENCE

Bottom-side, a tough Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed, sourced from American Powertrain, wraps a QuickTime low-profile bellhousing around a dual-disc Science Friction clutch. That transmission jerks a polished Inland Empire driveshaft, which spins a polished Speedway Engineering Quick Change rear end that's finished with a limited-slip differential, 31-spline axles and fun, 3.50 gears. That driveline hangs between American Stamping frame rails that have been pinched, lengthened, kicked-up and fleshed out by the pros at Hollywood Hot Rods. At the back of those bones, a racing-inspired Moal Coachbuilders suspension hides a Gary Schroeder torsion bar behind polished hairpins and polished QA-1 shocks. Opposite that clip, a Moal Coachbuilders front-half stretches an array of So-Cal Speed Shop components between a Gary Schroeder sway bar, two more polished hairpins and two more QA-1 shocks. Turns come courtesy of a Flaming River steering box. An electronic master cylinder clamps disguised, Kinmont-style discs in front of dressed, Lincoln-style drums. The stainless headers bark through polished, Mandrel-bent pipes, which route spent gases through either polished, dual-chamber mufflers or polished, electronically-actuated bypasses. And everything rolls on custom, Eric Black-designed Intro wheels, which spin E.T. Wheels knock-offs inside two 5.50-16 Firestone Deluxe Champions and two 8.20-18 Firestone Deluxe Champions.

HONE YOUR SENSE OF CRAFTSMANSHIP

Behind this classic's doors, you'll find tasteful custom leather that was installed by Mark Lopez of Upland, California's Elegance Auto Interiors. Attractive, 2-point harnesses hug tilting Speedway Motors buckets. In front of those seats, a body-matched dash plants a full array of Classic Instruments telemetry between polished Hollywood pedals, polished So-Cal knobs, a Hagan Fatties mirror and premium Ron Francis wiring. A custom console looks right at home propping a White Lightning shifter on German square-weave carpet. The driver spins a 4-spoke Limeworks Speed Shop wheel around a polished Limeworks Speed Shop column. And tunes are provided by a hidden Bluetooth audio system.

It's impossible to guess how many hours it took to construct this amazing pickup. But, given the lengthy list of equipment that went into its build, our asking price probably wouldn't even cover the components, let alone labor. Looking for a world class hot rod that's bold, brutal and absolutely brilliant? Look no further than this killer Ford!
