On that note, our latest lights-out classic is this sweet 1956 F100 resto-mod: a timeless hot rod that, thanks to its custom chassis, modern air conditioning and proven 351/3-speed drivetrain, cruises the blacktop like a champ!

HANDSOME NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE

Stunning, sorted and ready to rock and roll, this super cool pickup enhances the standout attributes of old school Ford steel with a comprehensive, ground-up restoration that included an acute attention to detail. The truck's straight fuselage mirrors a rich coat of GM Redfire Metallic 2-stage that was provided by the pros at Axalta. And those excellent reflections trace Kansas-flat surfaces to suggest many labor-intensive hours were spent exacting top-notch finish work.

At the front of this Effie, a polished grille hangs traditional halogen headlights above a polished bumper and clear parking lamps. Above that grille, a Ford-branded, forward-tilt hood leads a vent-less cowl, which frames a stainless-trimmed windshield that's centered between an extended visor and polished wipers. At the sides of that cowl, trick mirrors join polished handles and guarded lock cylinders to parallel one-piece door glass and massaged running boards. At the back of those boards, stainless-trimmed Oak frames a relocated fuel filler. And at the back of those planks, a chain-less, Ford-branded tailgate floats between filled stake pockets, a second polished bumper and snazzy Ford taillights.

In some enthusiast's minds, there's nothing worse than finding a stylish Ford hot rod only to tilt the hood and discover something akin to a generic Chevrolet small block. Well, fear not purists, because this blue oval bombshell features 351 cubic inches of proven Ford power that's been thoughtfully rebuilt with a mild cam. At the top of that Jet Black mill, a polished Edelbrock RPM Air Gap stacks a polished Ford Racing air cleaner on a polished Edelbrock carburetor that's finished with a polished Edelbrock filter. That intake pushes air and fossils through proven Ford heads, which cap polished Ford Racing valve covers with a polished Ford Motorsport breather. At the front of those heads, a reliable Ford distributor sequences spark between a hot MSD coil and loomed Ford Racing plug wires. At the base of that distributor, F-150 serpentine components spin a polished alternator and a modern AC compressor between coated shorty headers. And in front of those pulleys, a polished Champion radiator centers a large-diameter puller fan behind a polished expansion tank.

READY TO ROLL

That proven powerplant has, along with the truck's proven C4 3-speed, been tuned for a maximum combination of performance and efficiency. The performance aspect of that equation is greatly helped by a slick Shift Kit, which kicks a 9-inch Ford pumpkin that's finished with an Open Differential, quality Moser axles and fun, 3.50 gears. Everything rolls on a carefully customized chassis, which follows a Plymouth Volare front-clip with an air-sprung F100 rear-half. Lucid power steering makes parking easy and turns a cinch. Power-assisted stops are provided by a standard set-up of discs and drums. Aluminized, true-dual exhaust stretches an H-shaped crossover in front of rowdy Flowmaster mufflers and polished stainless tips. Power meets the pavement through polished Boyd Coddington blades, which twist 235/50R17 Bridgestone Potenzas in front of 235/45R20 Bridgestone Dueler H/Ps. And quality details include stainless fluid lines, a deep Hughes Performance transmission pan and a No Limit Engineering fuel tank.

NOTHING BEATS CUSTOM!

Swivel the doors and you'll reveal a tasteful, two-tone cockpit that's both custom and classy. Plush tan leather covers a sculpted bench seat that's stitched with suede inserts. In front of that seat, a svelte dash hangs crisp Dolphin telemetry behind polished No Limit billet, cool Vintage Air conditioning and trick billet accessory knobs. Custom carpet floats a small console between metal foot pedals and custom door panels that front fluid power windows. The driver spins a wood-rimmed Lecarra steering wheel around a polished, tilting column. And a hidden stereo provides miles of tunes.
