If you're a fan of style, speed and comfort, you simply can't go wrong with Pontiac's storied GTO. The 'goat' practically defined the golden age of Detroit, and by the time its first production run was over, it had become the best-selling muscle car of all time. Not surprisingly, demand for these cornerstone classics continues to be strong. The product of a fresh restoration and professional customization, this striking hardtop is one of the finest Pontiac muscle cars we've ever featured. With its modern drivetrain, massaged, mostly original sheetmetal and desirable red on black color combination, it's the perfect car for anyone who cruises fast, wide and loud. And if you're searching for an impressive classic that'll roll straight out of the showroom and right onto the red carpet, it's the opportunity of a lifetime!
THE CLASSIC OF CLASSICS
While this real-deal GTO's classic good looks originated in the mind of engineer John Z. DeLorean, it was the professionals at Tony's Muscle Cars of Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania that worked double time to ensure those looks present better than ever before. Thanks to a thorough rotisserie restoration, the car's solid body was meticulously straightened around a pair of fresh quarters. When that clean metalwork transitioned from the garage bay to the paint booth, modernist panels stretched a spectacular coat of Montero Red base under mirror-like clear. And today, this razor-sharp Poncho is a first-class head turner that proves things of quality have no fear of time.
Tough, understated and attractive, this coupe perfectly defines Pontiac's lasting legacy of tempering sophistication with aggression. The front of the car is dominated by trademark stainless-trimmed grilles that are anchored between stacked headlights and a broad chrome bumper. Inside those grilles, a prominent “G T O” emblem hints at the performance bolted beneath a new-for-1965, GTO-exclusive hood scoop. At the sides of that scoop, expressive 'coke bottle' fenders form a thoroughly shaved profile that's only adornments are correct emblems and bright mirrors. Above those fenders, tinted glass rides behind shaved drip rails and modern seals. And behind those seals, a second chrome bumper hangs small reverse lamps below a finned valence, an ominous “G T O” badge, a shaved trunk lock and appropriately centered “PONTIAC” lettering that lets everyone know EXACTLY who outran them.
HEART TRANSPLANT
Raise the car's long hood and the first thing you'll notice is a smooth LS1 V8 that's been bathed in a cool combination of modern GTO silver and vintage GTO turquoise. A staple in fifth-generation GTOs, that fully rebuilt mill mixes a fresh crank, fresh rods and fresh pistons with a racing-inspired LSX Hot Cam to create roughly 375 horsepower. At the top of the lightweight aluminum block, a polished Edelbrock cone funnels wind through a factory air tube, a factory-spec throttle body and an “LSX” branded intake. Stainless headers make easy work of spent gases. There's a beefy aluminum radiator that's fitted with a big electric puller fan. The car's smoothed firewall and smoothed inner fenders contrast silver hood hardware with a glossy coat of Montero Red 2-stage. And fresh plug wires combine with a chrome brake booster, a body-matched radiator shroud and modern GTO rail covers to detail otherwise purpose-built performance.
THE BEST OF THEN AND NOW
Logging weekend miles since their noble rebirth, this coupe's over-restored floors and color-keyed frame are completely free of significant issues and major defects. The stout LS1 commands a modern Tremec T56 6-speed with the help of a beefy hydraulic clutch. That proven gearbox grinds power to a rebuilt GM 10-bolt, which spins a posi-trac differential around gravel-busting 4.11 gears. That drivetrain rides in a restored and painted suspension, which sandwiches a full array of tubular and boxed componentry between modern power steering and 1.25-inch sway bars. At the corners of that suspension, power-assisted calipers clamp drilled and slotted rotors. A custom true-dual exhaust system connects the car's polished headers with an H-shaped crossover, throaty Flowmaster mufflers and polished side-splitter tips. And a quartet of Billet Specialties Furys spins 225/45ZR18 Nexen N7000s in front of 255/35ZR20 Nexen N7000s.
CLEAN AND CLASSY
Tap the button to open the car's shaved doors and you'll find a fresh black interior that's been customized where it counts. Front and center, firm leather buckets, donated by a modern GTO, feature power adjustment for the driver and front passenger. The LS1's vitals are displayed by a Dakota Digital gauge cluster, which glows with requisite red illumination. Like-new carpet anchors a chrome Hurst shifter between a Custom Autosound head unit, Vintage Air climate control and big kick speakers. At the sides of the car, fresh door panels are bolted behind billet pulls and custom armrests. In front of the driver, a polished steering wheel spins a half-wrapped rim around a vintage column. And behind the passengers, a carpeted and upholstered trunk features plenty of storage.
This awesome GTO is a documented, thoroughly upgraded muscle car that features an ideal blend of performance and style. And, thanks to its modern drivetrain and fresh restoration, it'll be an absolute pleasure to show and drive. If you've been patiently waiting for the opportunity to pick up an excellent example of the ORIGINAL muscle car, here's your chance!
