Ground Up Built Nova Restomod 630hp LS7 V8 6-speed 12 bolt Heidts Suspension
Over the past 109 years, Chevrolet has built such a vast empire of lovable offerings that some of them just seem to get overlooked. One of the most substantial victims of that unfortunate phenomenon is the storied Nova. Introduced in 1962 as an affordable and traditional compact, the frugal Chevy II was peddled in a wide variety of configurations. But it wasn't until the late sixties that the Nova sprouted some serious cubic inches and grew into a bona fide muscle car. This brilliant Nova resto-mod, converted into one of the sickest rides around via custom suspension work, a tough Tremec 6-speed and 427 cubic inches of choice LS7 small block, is one super cool hot rod that can be both driven and displayed. And if you're shopping for a fully sorted cruiser that puts a modern spin on an old school favorite, it's a great candidate for your next classic!
SUPER STAR NOVA
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration that was completed over the course of three years, this authentic V8 coupe is founded on all-original sheetmetal that was, according to the car's current owner, stripped bare before being massaged to greatness. Not surprisingly, every seam on this Main Street king has been aligned to better-than-factory fit. When you step close to its vivid pigment, you'll find flat surfaces that have traveled mere weekend miles since they were buffed up. And ultimately, it all adds up to one very impressive classic that looks right at home reflecting summertime car shows!
The subdued and classy lines of the prototypical Nova are late '60s conservative. And because they're so universal in appeal, they've continued to gain significant popularity. At the front of this Chevy, a mirrored bumper frames stylish parking lamps beneath a stainless-trimmed Super Sport grille that's bookended by modern headlamps with wicked orange halos. Behind that grille, a stainless-trimmed Super Sport hood leads the eye to like-new glass that's cased in straight trim, polished wipers and body-matched drip rails. At the sides of that glass, a conservative profile centers polished mirrors and traditional GM door handles between wispy fender louvers, “427” branded marker lamps and tasteful “Nova” scripts. And at the back of the car, a second mirrored bumper frames a familiar Super Sport valance between LED taillights and a third tasteful “Nova” script.
BORN WITH A V8, BUT NOT THIS ONE
Enact this Nova's billet Ring Brother's hood supports and you'll find a solid seven liters of premium Corvette small block that was assembled by the race-winning pros at Wegner Motorsports. What does that mean for you? Well consider this: with a twitch of your right foot you'll be sending 636 horsepower straight to the car's flywheel, 530 horsepower directly to the car's rear wheels and 482 lb./ft of earth-shaking torque right into the ground! A perfect amount of oxygen flows from a stylish Billet Specialties air cleaner to a lightweight GM intake that's wired with choice Holley fuel injection. That air/fuel mixture progresses to CNC-ported heads that are finished with lightweight titanium intake valves, sodium-filled exhaust valves, custom rocker covers and front-mount Racetronix breathers. Quality MSD plug wires create stout compression. Spent gases roar through ceramic-coated Hooker Headers. Charge comes courtesy of a 225-amp alternator that, along with the car's modern power steering, spins a billet accessory drive. Cooling is provided by a big Griffin radiator and dual SPAL puller fans. And everything was tuned to perfection at a legendary speed shop that goes by the name of Nickey Chevrolet.
PUTTING THE SUPER IN SPORT
The ferocious small block twists torque through a tough Tremec T56 6-speed that's aligned behind a McLeod clutch cylinder, a McLeod flywheel and a McLeod twin-disc clutch. That Tremec, strengthened by the pros at Finish Line Transmission, spins a powder-coated Strange 12-bolt that's fitted with an Eaton differential, 33-spline axles and fun, 3.73 gears. Original floorpans ride a carefully massaged front-clip that's enhanced with spry coil-over-shocks and stiff Global West control arms. Opposite that clip, a Heidts PRO-G 4-link plants two more spry coil-overs behind welded Hotchkis subframe connectors. A quality Wilwood master cylinder feeds a modern booster, which clamps four Wilwood calipers around 12.7-inch drilled and slotted rotors which, along with the car's linelock, also came from Wilwood. Turns come courtesy of modern power steering. Exhaust floats from the aforementioned headers into 3-inch pipes, which center an X-shaped crossover in front of throaty Flowmaster mufflers. And power meets the pavement through crisp Billet Specialties blades, which spin 235/45R18 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s in front of 255/45R18 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s.
NO FLUFF RETRO
Open this Nova's solid doors and you'll find a mildly modified interior that wraps a nice blend of classic style and modern convenience around traditional vinyl seats. A monochromatic dash hangs slick Dakota VHX telemetry beside factory heat and a modern Kenwood head unit that kicks amplified JL Audio speakers. Fresh carpet floats Chevrolet-themed floor mats between stainless-trimmed pedals, HushMat sound deadener and a short shifter. The driver spins a Billet Specialties steering wheel around a tilting Ididit column. And naturally, this Nova's trunk is just as nicely finished as its cockpit.
In 1969, this Chevy represented some of the best performance your money could buy. Currently, it represents some of the coolest muscle on the collector car market. Super nice third-generation Novas are a rare find. Spotless, lights-out resto-mods are rarer still. Don't miss your chance to own one of the coolest classics on the planet!
