Over the past 110 years, GM's monolithic Chevrolet division has built a vast empire of lovable offerings that span the entire spectrum of personal and commercial transportation. One of the most substantial products of that innovation is the legendary Chevelle. Introduced in 1964 as an affordable mid-size, Chevy's stalwart A-Body was peddled in a wide variety of flavors. But it wasn't until the late sixties that the car sprouted some serious cubic inches and grew into bona fide American muscle. This exceptional Chevelle is a fully documented, correctly restored coupe that wraps a numbers-matching LS6 in creamy Gobi Beige and Medium Saddle aesthetics. And if you're looking for some awesome metal that's unique, attractive and ready to roll, you simply won't find a cooler classic!

DIFFERENT AND GOOD

One of only three registry-listed 1970 LS6 coupes painted Gobi Beige, and the only registry-listed Gobi Beige 1970 LS6 coupe fitted with a Medium Saddle interior, this show stopping Chevelle is 100% factory correct thanks to a detailed, ground-up restoration. The car's incredibly straight fuselage hangs solid panels under a correct Dark Gold vinyl roof and menacing Super Sport Stripes. Kansas-flat surfaces, aligned much better than anything that left the factory, frame solid shuts in excellent reflections. And one close look at our high resolution photos reveals a striped and polished Chevy that's ready to run the street and rule the show!

For 1970, the facelifted Chevelle moved an impressive 634K units. Not only did that high-profile success earn GM big money, it also solidified the nameplate as part of Chevy's oft romanticized 'golden era'. At the front of this highly optioned coupe, a split Super Sport grille hangs a prominent “SS” emblem between a small “CHEVELLE” script, chrome-trimmed T3 headlights and a broad chrome bumper. Opposite that bumper, a pinned Super Sport hood leads the eye to correct Soft Ray glass that's seated in bright stainless frames. At the base of those frames, chrome door handles, polished mirrors and requisite “SS454” badges complement correct wheel trim. And at the back of the car, a second broad bumper hangs a standard Super Sport inlay between clear brake lights, a flashy trunk script and polished Super Sport exhaust tips.

PROPER POWER

Although the second-generation Super Sport's ferocious Turbo Jet V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it actually punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. Pop this classic's hood and you'll find a correct cowl induction system that's cleanly integrated into a completely finished, Satin Black frame. At the center of that frame, a correctly decaled, single-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen into a correct LIST 4492 Holley 4-barrel, which is threaded onto a correct, LS6-spec intake. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor sequences fire through hot Packard TV R Suppression cables. Spent gases roar through fully restored exhaust manifolds. A correct Harrison radiator fronts correct power steering, a correct alternator and a correct smog pump. Detailing includes niceties like correct marks, correct decals, a Delco-Moraine brake booster and a reproduction Delco battery. And naturally, the big block, bathed in vivid Chevy Orange paint, fronts a correct 3963512 casting number and September (I) 5th (5), 1969 (9) casting date with a correct "CRR” assembly stamp and a matching 135992 partial VIN.

STRICTLY AUTHENTIC

By now you've probably realized that this Chevelle's restorer was very particular about its detailed rebuild. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that the bottom of this Chevy is just as correct as the rest of the car. The hot 396 spins a correct Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed that's verified by a familiar, LS6-exclusive “CY 70” assembly tag. Behind that gearbox, a correct 12-bolt axle spins a correct posi-traction differential around correct, 4.10 gears. That spry drivetrain rides a clean, Satin Black frame, which rolls on a tagged F41 Sport Suspension that's finished with correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. Turns are provided by a requisite Saginaw steering box. Exhaust flows from the aforementioned manifolds to aluminized pipes, which sport a correct configuration of mufflers and resonators. And at the corners, stylish Super Sport Wheels spin F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval meats around stainless trim rings and SS center caps.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

Clean and correct, this coupe's airy Medium Saddle cockpit is splendidly neutral. A predictable combination of bench and Strato Bucket seats is firm to the touch. In front of those thrones, a straight Super Sport dash frames optional Deluxe Telemetry beside a correct Delco-GM 8-track player. Below that dash, bright carpet floats color-keyed floor mats at the sides of a correct locking console that's finished with a fluid Horseshoe Shifter. At the sides of that carpet, pick-free door panels center classy stainless trim and requisite “SS” emblems on bright handles and pliable armrests. In front of the driver, a factory steering wheel laps a color-keyed column. And behind the passengers, the car's fully restored trunk is finished with a correct jack and full-size spare tire.
