When we founded RK Motors over a decade ago, we wanted to redefine how people enter and enjoy the classic and performance car hobby. Sure, there were many dealers and auction companies that had already created successful templates for consigning and selling cars, but we wanted to be something more. From day one we've built our culture around finding, building, servicing, selling and enjoying the coolest cars in the collector car market. This classic, named RK-1 because it was the first build our shop completed, is the literal embodiment of a company that seeks to redefine a market. Over the course of 4,000 hours and almost $400K, EVERY aspect of this car was rebuilt to maximize enjoyment, exclusivity and value for an overall better enthusiast experience. NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT

Rolling into our Concord, North Carolina shops as a streetable 1969 Camaro convertible, this sweet F1 was, with the help of a plan, a checkbook and a whole lot of labor, transformed into an incredible, one-of-a-kind custom. The car's detailed restoration began with a full sandblast, which revealed a firm foundation for trick metalwork. After solid panels were transformed into timeless art, custom-mixed GM Atomic Orange base was accented with Metallic Black stripes and buried in several coats of clear. And today, this legendary Chevy rolls as one razor-sharp pro-tourer that's poised to show and raring to go!

One of the coolest aspects of RK-1's construction is how our builders worked to emancipate the car's body from its frame. Thanks to a full Art Morrison chassis, custom cowl supports and custom angle iron in both its fenders and quarters, the car's body can easily be removed from its chassis for service or further customization. Naturally, that acute attention to detail carried right over to basic appearance. A familiar Rally Sport grille, trimmed in Metallic Black, hangs a small “RK-1” badge between electric headlights and a smoothed and painted bumper. That bumper shades a massaged front valance, which centers modern driving lamps opposite a custom Cowl Induction Hood that's finished with billet grilles and integrated filter elements. That hood points at a stainless-trimmed greenhouse which, reflected in factory mirrors and polished wipers, sports Black, power-operated canvas. A clean profile, shaved of all emblems and markers, follows seamless fender extensions with extended rockers and traditional door handles that act as electronic actuators. A custom, all-metal spoiler complements a custom rear valance that's dotted with a custom fuel filler and billet taillights. And a shortened, shaved and painted rear bumper guards a custom roll pan that's sculpted around polished exhaust tips.

GO BIG OR GO HOME

When it comes to cars, being the best is often about power. Rest assured; RK-1 takes best to a whole new level thanks to 582 cubic inches of aluminum Dart big block that twists 772 horsepower into 765 lb./ft. of torque! At the top of that magic mill, tunable Hilborn fuel injection funnels fossils through aluminum Dart heads, which seat quality Comp Pro Magnum rockers under polished breathers and carbon fiber valve covers. Under those heads, a billet Eagle crank spins tough JL pistons at the sides of a spry Crane cam. Those internals play well with a hot MSD distributor and MSD Super Conductor plug wires. At the front of those wires, a Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine drive spins a trusty Edelbrock water pump between a polished alternator, a polished AC compressor and polished Cloyes timing components. An aluminum, high-capacity radiator makes excellent use of a carbon fiber-laced SPAL puller fan. Exhaust bellows through polished stainless headers that were custom-fabricated specifically for this application. Those tubes needed to be custom because, in the name of handling, the big engine was both lowered and set back in the car's boxed chassis. Detailing is on-point, with gorgeous CNC'd frame-to-firewall supports complementing items like a custom Milodon oil pan and a trick dipstick. Clean Atomic Orange two-stage dresses custom inner fenders, a smoothed firewall and a requisite closeout panel. And best of all, it all runs on easily attainable 93-octane fuel!

TRADITION PLUS ABILITY

Park this Camaro on a lift and you'll find that the bottom of the car is every bit as intricate and interesting as its alluring body and buff engine. A proven Tremec TKO600 5-speed hangs upgraded internals in front of a custom, nickel-plated driveshaft that was balanced at 200 MPH. That tube twists power to a Strange 9-inch axle that seals upgraded internals in a hardened center-section. The aforementioned Art Morrison MAXG chassis was stiffened, fitted with a custom crossmember and coated in Metallic Black two-stage. A Corvette-style front-clip centers electronic power rack-and-pinion steering between polished control arms and adjustable Strange coil-overs. Hand-fabricated wheel tubs shade a nickel-plated 4-link rear-clip that features two more adjustable Strange coil-overs. Drilled and slotted rotors, 14 inches up front, make the most of 4 and 6-piston Wilwoods. Polished exhaust, routed through the car's frame for maximum clearance, shuttles spent gases through polished Magnaflow mufflers. Stainless lines drain a custom, 24-gallon fuel cell. Torque transitions to pavement through polished Colorado Custom wheels, which spin custom “RK-1” centers inside 275/35R18 Michelins and 335/30ZR20 Michelins. And safety is greatly aided by electronic traction control.

PART SHOW CAR, PART RACE CAR

Behind the car's solid-closing doors you'll find a custom leather interior that wraps choice Recaro seats in a nice blend of classic flash and modern flair. A leather-capped '68 Camaro dash hangs billet hardware around AutoMeter carbon fiber telemetry and controls for Vintage Air conditioning. A custom, full-length console anchors billet-trimmed carbon fiber accessory gauges in front of a CNC'd shifter, topped with a custom Split-Ball knob, and switches for the car's power windows and power door locks. Formula One-style foot controls, complete with custom, CNC'd pedals, lead clean carpet that's protected by “RK-1” branded mats. Custom side panels, dashed with carbon fiber, front billet jamb vents and custom sills. There's a Mandrel-bent roll bar, custom-fabricated from 2.5-inch stainless steel, that can be easily removed. The driver spins an “RKC” branded steering wheel around a tilting column. Billet hinges guard a power-operated trunk. And a modern Pioneer head unit bumps DVD, MP3 and Navigation through an 800-watt amp, two subwoofers and eight crisp speakers.
