Pro-Touring Mustang Convertible 347 Stroker V8 Tremec 5-spd A/C Baer Brakes
It's a great time to be a Mustang fan at RK Motors Charlotte! Over the past few months, we've watched a roster of thoroughbred ponies trot through our doors. And, increasingly, that stock is transitioning from historic, numbers-matching showpieces to slick, fully-sorted resto-mods like this razor-sharp convertible. Professionally detailed and ready to rumble, this awesome drop-top is the beneficiary of a clean, ground-up restoration that transformed a stylish weekend warrior into a first class bruiser. And, thanks to a fuel injected stroker motor, a thoroughly tweaked suspension and a stylish leather interior, it'll keep you smiling all day long. Looking for a highly desirable muscle car that can provide years of open road fun? Time to celebrate the unrelenting swagger of old school Motor City muscle!
QUINTESSENTIAL FORM
Appropriately named Evil Pony by its passionate owner, this striking Mustang resto-mod is the beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration that likely took years to complete. That meticulous reboot reflects beauty in the form of rich black two-stage. And that two-stage looks especially fetching under trick ghost stripes and a roster of tailored details. At the front of the car, a traditional chrome bumper guards a billet grille, modern tri-bar headlights and traditional parking lamps. Behind that bumper, a timeless profile centers patriotic Mustang badging amid factory door handles, Shelby-style quarter scoops and custom engine callouts. Polished bullet mirrors reflect a stainless-trimmed greenhouse between matte wipers and a tight canvas top. And at the back of the car, a second chrome bumper guards a billet fuel filler, Shelby-style LED taillights and a GT-style valance that frames polished exhaust tips.
PERFECTING THE 302
Angle the hood and you'll find 347 cubic inches of rowdy Ford stroker motor that's been wired with spry FAST fuel injection. A requisite FAST regulator, monitored by a FAST pressure gauge, marries a steady stream of fossils with oxygen that drops through a polished K&N air cleaner. Both air and fuel make their way from an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake to lightweight Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads. Those heads float stylish Ford Racing valve covers between stainless breathers and loomed Taylor plug wires. Those wires cap a quality MSD distributor, which is fired by a hot MSD coil and precise MSD 6AL-2 ignition. Billet serpentine components spin an aluminum water pump between a polished alternator and modern power steering. That pump fills an aluminum radiator that's outfitted with a billet expansion tank, corrugated hoses and a big puller fan. Spent gases are jettisoned through short tubular headers. And overall, the car's sedate, Satin Black engine compartment is exceptionally well done, featuring ancillaries like a polished oil pan, a polished master cylinder, a Rennline battery kit and serious brace bars.
BORN TO RUN
The bottom of this awesome Mustang is just as impressive as its slick exterior and tidy engine bay. Behind the mean motor you'll find a tough Tremec 5-speed, which turns a requisite 9-inch Ford axle. That proven drivetrain pushes a 4-link rear-clip that's garnished with tubular bars and adjustable QA-1 coil-overs. Opposite that clip, an independent front-half, sourced from Fat Man Fabrications, follows a big sway bar with tubular control arms and more modern coil-overs. Naturally, that kit is led by power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners, power-assisted Baer calipers squeeze drilled and slotted rotors. Exhaust is handled by large, true-dual pipes that snake through an X-shaped crossover and great sounding Magnaflow mufflers. Power rolls through 18-inch Forgelines, which spin 245/40 BF Goodrich g-Force Rivals. And every one of this Ford's details, from its choice Russell brake lines to its welded Global West subframe connectors, has been carefully planned and professionally executed.
CUSTOM STYLE
Pop the doors and you'll find a custom leather interior that, installed by the pros at Pittsboro, North Carolina's JNG Creations, is both attractive and well-rounded. Diamond-stitched buckets provide comfort for four lucky passengers. A leather-wrapped dash hangs a full suite of Auto Meter Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite telemetry above hardware for the car's modern air conditioning. A sculpted, full-length console bends a chrome shifter in front of buttons for four power windows. LED-lit carpet crawls past billet foot pedals on its way to stylish sills and custom side panels. And the driver spins a classy Lecarra steering wheel around a modern, tilting column.
There's only one problem with this awesome Mustang: if you want it, everyone else will too. Well-done resto-mods have become some of our fastest sellers as more and more enthusiasts discover the thrill of taking their dream cars to the street. With its classic good looks, tastefully updated interior and thoroughly modern mechanicals, this Ford's appeal is universally strong.
