Description

In 1967 Chevrolet introduced a stylish new coupe that, along with the Corvette, would come to define the brand's successful foray into motorsports and performance. And, as we've all come to know, the Camaro, backing timeless 2-door style with an array V8 powerplants, was a legend in the making! At RK Motors, we take pride in specializing in exclusive, world class classics. And that's why we're proud to feature this fully documented, numbers-matching L89 Camaro. Wrapping a top-option L89 big block in stunning, and correct, green and houndstooth aesthetics, this retro wonder is a glorious trip back to the days of Win On Sunday, Sell On Monday!

DRESSED TO KILL

An authentic L89 Super Sport that's rolled its whole life as the pride and joy of one loving family, this epic pony car is the beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration that's clean, mean and ready to drop jaws. During that precise reboot, mostly original sheetmetal was stripped, massaged into great alignment and layered in correct Sequoia Green two-stage that's streaked with suave Super Sport Stripes. And today, one close look at our high-resolution photos reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one exceptional Chevrolet muscle car!

In a world of lightning quick showroom specials and lights out resto-mods, traditionalism has become a tough line to hold. But anyone who casts even a passing glance at this sublime monster would have a hard time arguing that this isn't EXACTLY the way an old school Motor City brute should look! At the front of the car, a correct Rally Sport grille hangs a timeless “SS” badge between a polished bumper and ornate Camaro header branding. Behind that grille, a familiar Super Sport hood leads satin wipers, which clear a correct, Z21-spec greenhouse that's capped in correct Black vinyl. At the sides of that glass, a factory mirror reflects factory door handles between bright emblems, bright markers and correct door edge guards. And at the back of the car, a second polished bumper frames a Satin Black Super Sport valance amid ornate Camaro deck branding and correct Rally Sport taillights.

EQUIPPED TO THRILL

If you know bowtie history, you know that only 272 of all 235,247 1968 Camaros were gifted with Chevrolet's lethal L89 396. These cars were the true performers of the Camaro world, often screaming up dragstrips and beating their way through daily stoplight squabbles. That said, living a fast life often foreshadows a fast demise… unless you're talking about this fully documented beast! As the story goes, this Chevy's original owner decided his F1's L89 was just a bit too much to live with. So, sometime in the first few years of the car's life, the mighty mill was removed and put on a stand in favor of milder small block motivation. The rare engine sat in wait while the car bounced around the same family for roughly 45 years until, during the aforementioned restoration, it was fully rebuilt, carefully reinstalled and dyno-tuned to a very respectable 582 horsepower and 581 lb./ft. of torque!

Under the sculpted hood, oxygen and fuel enter the big mill's combustion chambers through a polished air cleaner, stainless fluid lines and a correct Holley 4053 4-barrel. Below that carb, a Winters aluminum intake feeds aluminum Winters heads, which have been blended, port-matched and finished with COMP springs, COMP retainers and COMP pushrods. A rowdy roller cam plays well with a steel crank, SCAT rods, Keith Black pistons and solid lifters. MSD 6AL ignition sequences spark between a Blaster 2 coil, a Pro-Billet distributor and loomed Super Conductor plug wires. Those wires thread beefy Hooker headers under mirrored valve covers. Tight belts spin an aluminum water pump beside a retro alternator. That pump fills a factory radiator that's cinched to pliable GM hoses via tight tower clamps. Those components are, in traditional fashion, seated in a slick, Satin Black frame. That pigment is complemented by first class detailing, like a correct brake booster and a spry mini starter. And naturally, the numbers-matching mill displays a correct 3916323 casting number behind an L89-spec 396 (MT) suffix stamp and a matching 394899 partial VIN.

BUILT TO RUN

Under this impressive F-Body you'll find a fully sorted chassis that, like the car's glossy exterior and lust worthy engine, has been restored to very high standards. The exclusive big block spins a numbers-matching Muncie 4-speed, which parades a correct 3925660 casting number above a Muncie (P) assembled on February (B) 12th (12) 1968 (8) assembly stamp and a matching 394899 partial VIN. That gearbox twists a dressed 12-bolt axle that's finished with a correct posi-traction differential and correct 3.73 gears. That Eaton pushes a fully rebuilt suspension, which compliments tough mono leaf springs with tubular traction bars and a big sway bar. Turns are provided by factory manual steering. Stops come courtesy of factory power front disc and rear drum brakes. Three-inch, Mandrel-bent exhaust crawls through an X-shaped crossover to welded, dual-chamber mufflers. And power meets the pavement through green-tinged Chevrolet Rally Wheels, which twist 215/70R14 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of massive 275/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.

PRIMED FOR FUN

The Black Houndstooth Interior hiding behind this Camaro's Sequoia Green doors is a correct factory affair that, over 50 years after its debut, is still both stylish and cool! Tight bucket seats ride fade-free carpet that's stretched between factory Custom door panels. Opposite those panels, a wood-trimmed console plants correct four-pack accessory gauges in front of a short Hurst shifter. In front of that stick, a canted dash hangs correct, stainless-trimmed foot pedals below rebuilt factory telemetry. The driver spins a correct Chevrolet Rally Wheel. And behind the passengers, a freshly restored trunk provides access to the car's relocated battery.

So, there you have it: a rare, fully documented piece of Chevrolet history that's been in the care of one meticulous family since new. Call, click or visit https://www.RKMotors.com for more information on this choice Camaro Super Sport!
