Description

There's just something about the Chrysler A-body platform that makes it the perfect foundation for scary fast street machines. This completely wicked 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger benefits from a top-notch restoration and has an extensive list of top-shelf performance modifications that make it a no compromises stoplight predator. It'll dust any stock HEMI car that has the unfortunate fate of crossing its path, and for $34K, it's the best muscle car your money will ever buy.

Retaining all of its original sheet metal, this '69 Dodge compact is painted in correct Chrysler code R4 red paint and displays a correct white Swinger stripe. Prior to paint, the cars solid panels were straightened and sanded until everything lined up just right and the doors, trunk and hood closed with factory precision. Once the body was completely defect free, the smooth canvas was then covered in basecoat/clearcoat and buffed to the brilliant shine you see here. Up front, a black and silver grille is trimmed in stainless and spans the entire width of the car. Housed in that grille is correct round headlights and square marker lights that display no weathering and function perfectly. Below the grille, a wide chrome bumper features a show winning shine and complements a chrome “Dodge” emblem that is inlayed with black and occupies the driver's side of the hood. On top of the hood, two traditional Mopar power bulges are equipped with chrome inserts that feature “340” in red and “4 Barrel” in chrome against a black background. The side panels of the car feature the modern look of late 60s design and extend out past the greenhouse to present a wide and sporty appearance. Swept fender openings combine with a swept front bumper and a swept C-pillar to give the car a look of constant motion even when it's sitting still. On the sides of the pillarless hardtop, color matched drip rails sit above new factory tinted glass that is housed in straight stainless trim. On the rear fenders, the traditional Swinger stripe is divided at its mid-point and features “Dart” in the top half and the awesome 60s-esque “Swinger” script in the bottom half. Ornamentation is limited to like-new chrome door handles, a chrome driver' sides mirror and square marker lights at all four corners that are bright and clear. At the back of the car, the rear window features compound inverse curves and flows with ridged fenders into clear and functional chrome trimmed tail lights. The valence under the trunk features a centered black and chrome “Dodge” emblem that sits above another spotless chrome bumper.

Open the shiny red hood and check out the cars stout 360 cubic inch V8. But wait, it gets even better; this 1973 360 has been completely disassembled and enlarged to 408 cubic inches for enough fire power to turn this Dart into a missile. On top of the motor, a Holley 750 carburetor grabs air through a chrome air filter and sucks fuel from braided fuel lines that are complete with a liquid filled fuel pressure gauge. That air-fuel mixture goes through an Edelbrock dual plane RPM Air Gap intake into original Mopar X heads that have been ported and rebuilt with Comp Cams valve springs and Mopar rocker arms. The fuel is sparked by an MSD coil and MSD ignition system that send power through a points distributor and Moroso Blue Max spiral core wires. Ross forged pistons and I Beam forged connecting rods combine with a Scat cast steel crank and a Comp Cams Extreme Energy camshaft to create a 10.6 to 1 compression ratio and crank out 475 horsepower and 470 lb./ft. of torque. If that isn't enough power, a Zex nitrous oxide system, complete with a trunk mounted ten pound storage bottle, has been piped in below the carburetor through black braided hoses. In front of the motor, an aluminum radiator easily keeps the small block cool and sits in front of an electric fan, a double roller timing chain, fresh hoses and fresh belts on billet pulleys. At the sides of the motor, exhaust gases exit through coated TTI long tube headers into a TTI dual exhaust system that is complete with an X-pipe. On the left side of the engine bay, you'll find an Optima battery and a Mopar aluminum master cylinder. Fabricated aluminum valve covers carry polished breathes and look great against the Mopar blue engine block and the engine bay has been coated in body matching code R4 red that carries the same gloss as the exterior body panels. Even the small things are done right, with complete hood insulation occupying the hood and an ARP fastener kit holding everything together.

Under the car a Performance Torque Converter 3500 which features a 2,300 RPM stall, a 9x11 billet lock up, a nine inch cover with an eleven inch clutch and a standalone HGM controller, is mounted between the motor and a 727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission. That 727 Torqueflite is held in by a custom Year One transmission cross member and was built by Cope Racing Transmissions and features a case housing that has been glass beaded inside and out, a performance automatic shift valve body, a Trans-Go TF-2 shift kit and a deep steel pan with a billet filter extension. Behind the transmission, a Dynotech three inch driveshaft sends power to a Dr. Diff stock 8.75 rear end with rebuilt Sure Grip gears. Like the drivetrain, the suspension of this car has been heavily upgraded for added performance and better overall driving characteristics. At the front of the car, you'll find a Hotchkis Performance Suspension Technology polygraphite suspension kit, Hotchkis tubular upper control arms, Hotchkis adjustable strut rods, Hotchkis adjustable steering rods, a Hotchkis performance sway bar kit, '73 A-body front spindles, Bilstein shocks, a Flaming River sport steering box and Wilwood 11 inch disc brakes. Out back you'll find another Hotchkis performance sway bar kit, Hotchkis subframe connectors, Mopar one inch drop springs, Bilstein shocks and Ford Cobra nine inch rear brakes. Keeping the power to the pavement is 16 inch Coker Magnum 500 wheels with bulls eye center caps and 245/50 front and 215/55 rear BF Goodrich G-Force radials.

Inside the car, a restored black vinyl interior is in spectacular shape. The black bench seats look great front and back showing no wear at all and under the seats, new black carpet is protected by black carpeted Dodge Motorsports floor mats. In front of the seats, the cars original dash is in excellent condition and houses a speedometer, controls for the heater/defroster, a correct radio delete panel and a locking glove box. Under the dash, a modern three pack of Autometer gauges keeps an eye on volts, oil pressure and engine temperature, and is mounted right beside an Autometer 'knee knocker' tach. A correct steering wheel with a correct black horn button sits on a black steering column that features a chrome transmission shifter and a translucent gear indicator. At the sides of the car, like-new door panels feature a gloss black upper piece, a vinyl lower piece with armrests and chrome door and window handles that appear to be original equipment. Above the seats, a tight black headliner flows to the rear package tray which house two Kenwood speakers. Out back, the trunk features more shiny red paint, a correct mat and jack, and the storage bottle for the Zex nitrous system.

Documentation for this car includes the original owner's manual and a three page spec sheet that categorizes all of the cars modifications.

Whether you're an A-body fan or just a fan of very fast and very well built cars this '69 Dart is sure to make you happy. It's a solid build with a tight motor that would certainly cost two or three times our asking price if you wanted to build it yourself. You're simply not going to find more performance for the money and given how much fun this car is, it certainly won't last long. Call today!
