Description

The beneficiary of no-expense-spare restoration, this 454 4-speed Chevelle SS presents as new from all angles. Dressed in a rich coat of Hugger Orange / Monoco Orange paint with black stripes and a black vinyl top, the car achieves the sinister look these Chevelles are known for. Finished in show quality trim with new glass and spotless stainless all around, this car is sure to dominate the local shows.

Purchased from the original owner in 2005, this Chevelle SS was sold as an original LS6 matching #s car per the saved newspaper classified ad. It had been painted Black Cherry and needed restoration. No original paperwork remained with the car; however, the seller signed a notarized letter attesting to the fact that he had owned the car for the last 35 years, and the car is an original numbers match SS454 LS6 with Hugger Orange paint. Upon disassembly, Hugger Orange paint was indeed found in many areas, and a check of the trim tag showed a dash mark rather than a paint code, which confirmed the car left the factory with special order paint. The uniqueness sparked the desire to start a complete nut and bolt restoration, with the stunning result for sale today.

Living under the hood is a 454ci V8 LS6 fitted with correct heads, Winters intake manifold, and restored smog equipment. The engine block wears a casting number of 3963512 and a suffix code of CRR designating a 454/450hp build. Savvy Chevy guys will note that that the suffix calls for an automatic transmission, which was set aside for a more exciting Muncie 4-speed during restoration. Correct exhaust manifolds and a properly restored engine compartment are also sure to please Chevelle enthusiasts.

Behind that big block, a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission makes quick work of shifts, spinning power back to a stout 12-bolt rear with 3.31 posi. The suspension remains in stock form with a double A-arm front and the factory four-bar setup out back. When the roads curve, power steering pairs with beefy front and rear sway bars and power brakes that clamp down on discs up front and drums out back. The vintage setup rides on a set of 14-inch Super Sport wheels wrapped in period correct looking F70-14 bias ply tires.

Open those long doors and a fresh black vinyl interior comes into full view. The optional Strato-Buckets look great and are surprisingly firm to sit in, surrounded by fresh black door panels and a taut black headliner. From the command post, a three-spoke sport wheel ahead of a restored factory dash displaying a full gauge package. Entertainment is provided by an original Delco AM/FM radio while, behind the rear seat, the trunk maintains factory standards.
