Description

Looking for a super sharp 50s cruiser to display at local car shows and parade down Main Street? You can always buy a nice Bel Air -- Like everyone else… You COULD find a cool old Fairlane, and raise a few eyebrows… Or, you can call RK Motors Charlotte and snatch up this unique 1956 Ford Mainline! Packing a fresh 302 V8 and sporting a host of well-done custom touches, this fully restored sedan draws big crowds and big compliments wherever it goes. If you're in the market for a classic cruiser that is as unique as it is cool, this awesome '56 Ford is an absolutely incredible value!

Originally a California car which was pampered and maintained for most of its life by one family, this rockin' '56 Mainline is now in the possession of only its second owner, and sports a high quality restoration that has aged well and looks great. From the top of its smooth white roof to the bottom of its super cool teal body, the car is much straighter than when it rolled out of a Ford showroom 55 years ago and features a good looking coat of paint with very few flaws. Naturally, that straight body provides a level of fit and finish which is much better than factory tolerances and allows all doors, windows and other moving parts to function fluidly and correctly. The glossy paint combines with a nosed and decked profile to give the car a classic rockabilly feeling which simply can't be matched by pristine Bel Airs and Victorias of the same ilk. And overall, the car presents a unique flavor of cool which will undoubtedly draw a crowd anywhere you choose to take it.

From 1952 to 1956 Fords Mainline was positioned below the Customline and Crestline as the company's base offering, and accordingly, featured strong styling with minimal trim. At the front of the car, clear hooded headlights hang above a '56 Mainline exclusive concave stainless grille and horizontal chrome parking lights. Below that grille, a pristine chrome bumper centers vertical guards on a silver front valence and snakes around the corners of solid front fenders. At the back of that bumper, browed fenders lines lead the eye to faux Lakes side pipes which ride below straight doors with correct chrome mirrors, good looking chrome door handles and stylized lock cylinders. On top of the car, like-new glass is bordered by well-maintained stainless, a cool deluxe Ford antenna, and body-matched door frames and drip rails. Behind the doors, sculpted rear fenders hold straight stainless trim with spotless white inserts above smooth fender skirts. And at the back of the car, custom Mercury tail lights hang above a frenched license, a stylized trunk lock cylinder, a second show worthy chrome bumper and clean stainless exhaust tips.

When this classic Ford was transformed from basic transportation into the old school hot rod you see today, every detail was upgraded in the name of performance and aesthetic appeal. The cars reliable but basic 6-cylinder was swapped for a new Jasper 302 replacement block which has only seen 1,000 miles of road time and provides excellent throttle response. The firewall, radiator support and inner fenders were covered in a slick coat of gloss black paint, and an assortment of dress up pieces, which range from mirror-like chrome valve covers to a trick Ford Motorsports dipstick, were sprinkled in all the right places. At the top of the engine, a louvered chrome air filter feeds a Holley 4-barrel carburetor which is bolted to an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake. At the front of the engine, fresh V-belts spin billet pulleys which are attached to a slick chrome alternator, a Sanden AC compressor and durable billet brackets. And at the sides of the engine, ceramic coated long tube headers send spent gases into a true dual exhaust system. Fire is provided by a Pertronix Flame Thrower coil which utilizes a traditional points distributor to send spark through bright blue Accel Hi-Temp Super Stock wires. And cooling is provided by a Walker radiator which is equipped with fresh hoses and a billet overflow tank.

During the restoration, this classic Fords undercarriage was treated with the same attention to detail as its exterior panels. The cars fully rebuilt suspension benefitted from a significant drop which provides an unbeatable stance, and a number of small tweaks increase both performance and drivability. Up front, a traditional double A-arm suspension sports manual steering and an aftermarket sway bar for a vintage feel with additional rigidity. And out back, a traditional solid axle hangs on durable leaf springs to provide a firm, controlled ride. Motivation is provided by a reliable Ford C4 3-speed automatic transmission and a bulletproof Ford nine inch rear end, and braking is provided by upfitted manual front discs and traditional manual rear drums. At the center of the car, an aluminized true dual exhaust system utilizes Smithys turbo mufflers to create a fitting gnarly burble while a new stainless fuel tank sends dino juice through new stainless fuel lines. Keeping the car firmly planted on the pavement is a spectacular set of bright red 15 inch steel wheels which ride on 165/70 front and 215/70 rear Firestone Silvertown wide whitewall radials and wear pristine Ford hubcaps inside of fresh stainless trim rings. Overall, the bottom of this car presents very well with solid floor that display no signs of rust, a straight frame that shows no indication of damage, and a slew of fresh parts which all function as they should.

This awesome Mainlines tasteful and comfortable two-tone interior is a classy reminder of the days when style and appeal were the central focus of car design. In front of the passengers, a beautifully restored two-tone dash hangs a functional Ford clock above pristine stainless trim which houses a full assortment of Auto Meter gauges and a modern Pioneer CD player. At the sides of the car, great looking two-tone door panels flow perfectly around smooth, painted window frames, and hang correct chrome handles above restored two-tone armrests. In the middle of the car, completely rebuilt and recovered green and white bench seats provide the perfect spot for main street cruise nights; and in front of the driver, a correctly restored Mainline steering wheel holds a chrome horn button above a billet turn signal stalk and billet accessory knobs. Below the seats, excellent looking dark green carpet lies under color-matched, Ford crested floor mats and a slick Lokar shifter. Above the seats a like-new white headliner leads the eye to cool rear speakers which wear stainless covers that are crafted into music notes. Below those speakers, the cars restored trunk features a correct mat, a fifth red wheel with a brand new spare tire and a re-located fuel filler neck.

Included with this sale is an era-correct 1956 Ford fact book and a small packet of paperwork for the new Jasper V8.

This rare and exceptionally clean 1956 Ford Mainline is one of the coolest cruisers on the planet! And at just $29,900 it offers the best of both worlds: a fully restored car at a fraction of the cost of doing it yourself, and a unique hot rod that will likely be the only one of its kind at any show you attend. Solid, well-done 50s era metal like this doesn't come along too often, and given the attention it draws in our showroom, it won't last long!
