Description

Here at RK Motors Charlotte we sell A LOT of first generation Chevrolet Camaros. In our current inventory, we have many numbers matching, investment grade cars that are perfectly suited for trailering to shows and sitting in museums. However, as much as we enjoy historic pieces that appear as though they've been stuck in a time capsule for 40 years, we're also red-blooded car enthusiasts who love selling cars that can actually be driven and enjoyed as they were originally intended. And with its awesome black and white color combination, ground pounding 468 cubic inch engine, and subtle appearance modifications throughout, this 1969 Camaro pro-tourer will turn driving your muscle car from a hobby into an obsession! If you're looking for some classic Detroit metal that delivers the drivability of a modern sports car in one of the best looking packages to ever roll onto American streets, this is your car!

Logging only 100 miles since a complete frame-off restoration that was completed just last year, this killer 1969 Camaro displays smooth bodywork and first rate fit and finish that is nothing short of immaculate. The build began with a solid first generation Camaro body that was massaged, aligned to better than factory standards, and equipped with exceptionally precise seams which are worthy of being on a modern luxury car. Once that well-done body was completely smooth and ready for paint, a mirror-like coat of gloss black urethane was blanketed with traditional white rally stripes and sealed under a slick clearcoat shell that has been wet sanded and buffed to an absolutely brilliant shine. One look down this Camaro's straight and super glossy profile reveals that days, and perhaps even months, were put into making sure it's build was first rate in every way. And the result is an exceptional pro-tourer which combines the best fundamentals of a classic muscle car with an acute attention to detail that is more characteristic of a hundred point concourse restoration.

The best pro-tourers are those which utilize modern technology and customization to enhance the original integrity of an already attractive muscle car design. And this '69 Camaro, with its subtle and carefully planned enhancements, is literally the definition of that logic. At the front of the car, a stainless trimmed and gray painted grille centers a pristine white inlayed “SS” emblem between trick modern headlights and a showroom fresh chrome bumper which features completely smoothed hardware. At the bottom of that bumper, crystal clear modern parking lights with amber bulbs hang above an option D80 front spoiler; and above that bumper a familiar ZL2 cowl induction hood rides in front of custom cowl vent delete panels. Behind those cowl delete panels, like-new glass is cleared by bright stainless wipers, shielded by new chrome drip rails and framed by fresh, dent-free stainless trim. And at the sides of the car, standard stainless rocker moldings and straight stainless wheel well trim, perfectly complement correct chrome marker lights, traditional chrome GM door handles and a correct chrome driver's side mirror. At the back of the car, an option D80 rear decklid spoiler has been modified to sit flush against a perfectly aligned trunk lid and sculpted rear fenders. And clear '69 Camaro exclusive tail lights illuminate a second white inlayed “SS” emblem which hangs above a second showroom fresh chrome bumper that features a second set of completely smoothed hardware.

While the exterior enhancements to this sinister Camaro seem subtle at first glance, the 468 cubic inch V8 under its hood is anything but! And when the owner decided to bring his vision of the perfect Camaro powerplant to life, he began by grinding all the engines cast surfaces down to a smooth finish, building custom inner fenders, smoothing the firewall and hood, and covering everything from the core support to the ancillary components in a slick coat of matte paint. At the top of the block, air flows from a custom black air cleaner, which is slightly reminiscent of a classic tri-five Chevy unit, into a chrome Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor that is fed by a rear mounted braided fuel line. The resulting air fuel mixture makes its way from an aluminum intake manifold to GM Performance Parts aluminum heads which ride between custom black and silver Chevrolet valve covers and eight giant cylinders that feature a .030 overbore. Those cylinders fire via a Mallory Unilite points distributor which sends fire through black Taylor plug wires; breathe well courtesy of matte black long tube headers which are connected to a brutal three inch exhaust system; and create roughly 450-500 horsepower courtesy of a high performance Comp Cams camshaft. At the front of the block, a matte black Walker radiator sits between a quick spinning electric fan, a matte black aluminum cap and a matte black overflow tank. And a fresh serpentine belt spins a satin chrome power steering pump below a smooth, matte silver water pump and a low mount matte silver alternator. Since this Camaro just benefitted from a complete high quality restoration, its engine compartment is exceptionally clean, and thus far, hasn't even had enough time to build up a thin layer of dust. And details like polished hydraulic hood hinges, a built in temperature gauge, a matte black brake booster and a billet aluminum master cylinder add the kind of eye candy that will form crowds and win trophies.

Park this Camaro pro-tourer on a lift and you'll be pleased to find that the restorer's immaculate attention to detail and extreme dedication to performance expand from the engine bay to both the cars clean under carriage and modern suspension. The tweaked and fueled big bore engine powers a stalwart Muncie M21 4-speed transmission which spins a traditional GM 12 bolt Posi-traction rear end that's stuffed full of familiar 3.73 gears. Most of the cars double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension is comprised of restored factory hardware; however, the owner did see fit to optimize the cars SCCA worthy handling with the addition of tubular front control arms, fresh front coil overs and four Koni Classic shocks. Naturally, a powerful drivetrain like this needs equally powerful opposition for the sake of effective stops, so the car was fitted with a Classic Performance Products four wheel disc system which utilizes giant orange calipers to squeeze large drilled and slotted rotors. At the center of the floor, spent gases flow from the engines matte long tube headers into a coated three inch true dual exhaust system which barks a throaty roar thanks to dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers. And at the corners of the floor, fully polished (yes, that means polished both front AND back) American Racing Torque Thrust IIs spin 225/45/17 BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sport front radials and 245/55/18 BF Goodrich G-Force T/A rear radials. Like the engine bay, the cars solid floorpans and fresh undercarriage components have been carefully coated in a fresh layer of matte black paint. And small touches like new stainless hardware, new stainless fuel and brake lines, a matte silver transmission case and a matte silver oil pan provide an excellent contrast which gives the car a professional, finished look.

Open this Camaro's solid doors and you'll find a fully restored black and white houndstooth interior which is one of the most stylish cockpits to ever roll out of a GM design studio. The completely rebuilt front bucket and rear bench seats feel as firm as the day they left the showroom, and perfectly complement a tight black headliner, like-new black carpet and fresh “Camaro” branded rubber floor mats. In front of those seats, a straight and crack-free black dash holds an optional electric clock, a pristine speedometer and a correct AC tachometer above correct radio and heater deletes and an aftermarket MP3 jack. At the sides of those seats, deluxe Camaro door panels hang pristine stainless trim and new chrome door handles below correct black door pulls. And between those seats, a correct black console props traditional Camaro 'four pack' gauges in front of a fully chromed and wood trimmed Hurst shifter and a functional rear courtesy light. In front of the driver, a polished Lecarra steering wheel spins around a tilt steering column that's complete with a full set of billet stalks. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk cages the cars traditional top post battery in a trick billet tie down.

If you're in the market for a pavement bruiser that is a blast to show off and even MORE fun to drive, your search is over. This expertly restored 1969 Camaro pro tourer mixes classic Chevrolet looks with a ton of power and some of the best suspension and braking components on the market. Why waste years of your valuable time and strain your bank account on a ground up muscle car build when you can walk right into our showroom, throw down about half the money you were going to spend and experience just how refreshing instant gratification is?
