Description

You already know that RK Motors Charlotte has a thing for killer pro-touring cars. With their long list of magazine features and stacks of top dog trophies, we've brought you some of the most mind-blowing, potent and flat-out nasty pro-touring muscle in the world! And from the insane Boss 557 we sold a few months ago to the twin turbo Camaro we sold a few weeks ago, and our own RK Motors built '71 Cuda convertible that left just a few days ago, these cars continue to roll out of our showroom almost as fast as they roll in. After all, what's not to love about a classic muscle car that can outrun, out turn, out stop and out class cars that are half its age and half its value? Combining the best of yesterday, with the best of today and tomorrow, this 1969 Camaro Super Sport, with its 468 cubic inch V8 and completely adjustable custom suspension was built for the muscle car fan that wants the absolute best and doesn't want to share!

The beneficiary of a professionally executed frame-off restoration, this slick '69 Camaro SS features a seamless custom appearance that's highlighted by an immaculate coat of correct GM code 52 Garnet Red paint and fresh black hockey stripes. Take one look down the sides of the car's rock solid body and it becomes very obvious that great care was taken to ensure every panel is aligned to better than assembly line fit and all the car's seams are narrow and precise. Step closer to the mirror-like paint and check out its straight and ripple-free surfaces which are a product of both rust-free OEM sheetmetal and high quality replacement quarter panels. Grab the well-adjusted hood and feel how smoothly it closes to provide an excellent fit which is set off by a glossy multi-layer clearcoat finish that looks right at home reflecting a summertime car show. It all adds up to one very well-done pro-tourer that is built to exacting specifications and features a great combination of skilled workmanship and first-rate finishing.

The key to a good custom build is creating a car that, at first glance, looks completely natural and simple; then upon further examination, actually contains many labor intensive alterations and custom touches. At the front of this awesome '69 pro-tourer, a custom billet grille hangs high intensity discharge headlights and electronically controlled Retro-Electro headlight doors above an arrow straight chrome bumper and an aftermarket, matte finished SCCA style front spoiler. At the top of the car, a pristine “Camaro by Chevrolet” emblem sits in front of a familiar ZL2 cowl induction hood; and like-new glass, which is framed by dent-free stainless trim, sits between body-matched F3 Camaro mirrors, new chrome drip rails and bright stainless windshield wipers. At the sides of the car, form comes courtesy of familiar stainless rocker spears and pristine “Camaro”, “SS” and “396” front fender emblems. And function is provided by new chrome marker lights, fresh stainless wheel well trim and obligatory chrome door handles. At the back of the car, a traditional D80 decklid spoiler rides above a second show worthy chrome bumper that comes complete with correct vertical guards; and a satin black rear valence hangs traditional, chrome trimmed tail lights at the sides of a pristine white “SS” emblem.

The Chevrolet division has always represented performance to a virtual army of car guys. But unlike its refined and precise Corvette brethren, the Camaro manifests that performance as raw attitude and brute power. Lift the hood of this bad ass pro-tourer and you'll find a 468 cubic inch big block V8 which produces roughly 600 horsepower and makes the kind of killer noise that elicits an immediate 'deer in the headlights' look from anything with ear drums. At the top of that engine, air flows through a chrome X-Stream style re-usable air cleaner into a 4-barrel Wilson Competition carburetor which is fed by black braided hoses and a chrome fuel pump. The resulting air fuel mixture makes its way from a Weiand Team G single plane aluminum intake to Merlin competition heads that are outfitted with a complete set of roller rockers and topped with a slick pair of ball milled aluminum valve covers. Once that air fuel mixture hits the cylinders, a Mallory Unilite distributor sends fire from a chrome covered coil to hidden Taylor plug wires which fire in perfect time with a solid roller camshaft; and spent gases exit through polished Hooker Competition headers which perfectly complement the block's flawless high temp silver paint. Cooling is provided by a giant Be Cool aluminum radiator that is equipped with a large electric fan, reproduction GM hoses and a polished cap. Charging comes courtesy of a chrome alternator which, along with a chrome power steering pump, is spun by an aesthetically pleasing March pulley system. And the car's engine compartment is exceptionally clean featuring a satin black firewall behind fully finished Garnet Red inner fenders and details such as: a satin finished radiator support panel, billet brace bars, billet hood hardware, an assortment of braided hoses and a polished Wilwood master cylinder.

While the standard mode of power transfer on showroom new '69 Camaros was a tough Muncie 4-speed, the benefit of 40 years of increasing technology now affords us painless upgrades like this cars slick shifting 6-speed Richmond gear box. Behind that 6-speed, a fresh driveshaft spins a custom fabricated Ford nine inch Posi-traction rear end which hangs between high quality Moser axles, Detroit Speed mini-tubs and a custom built three link suspension. At the front of the car, a complete sub frame rebuild saw the addition of Global West upper and lower control arms, adjustable tie rods and a full set of polyurethane bushings. And at all four corners of the car, fully adjustable QA1 coil over shocks combine with drilled and slotted Wilwood four wheel disc brakes to provide serious handling prowess and first rate stopping ability. Exhaust flows from the Hooker long tube headers into a mandrel bent true dual system that is complete with an H-pipe crossover, dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers and rear mounted turn downs. Putting the power to the pavement is a set of custom, 17 inch two-piece Billet Specialties wheels that are mounted to 245/40 front and 315/35 rear Sumitomo HTR performance radials. And the car's fresh satin black floors have been restored to better than new condition and feature a full array of finishing components which include a new stainless fuel tank, new stainless fuel and brake lines and a full set of spotless stainless hardware.

Inside this cool F1 Camaro you'll find a restored, and correct, GM code 711 Black vinyl interior that's in excellent shape. At the front of the car, a crack-free black dash hangs a rebuilt AC speedometer and a rebuilt AC tachometer above a modern Alpine CD player. At the center of the car, a standard issue Camaro console props a four pack of modern hydraulic gauges in front of a chrome Long shifter which is topped by a black shift knob, and framed by a custom chrome shift plate. At the bottom of the car, like-new black carpet rides under rubber, bowtie branded floor mats and slick, carbon fiber wrap door sills. And at the sides of the car, standard black door panels frame correct “Camaro” emblems, straight armrests and mirror-like chrome door and window handles in pristine stainless trim. In front of the driver a tilt steering column, which is complete with a full set of billet stalks, prominently displays a custom wrap Billet Specialties steering wheel. And behind the cockpit, a restored trunk features fresh spatter paint, correct decklid decals and an Optima gel cell battery.

Included with the sale of this glossy red pro-tourer is an original 1969 registration and an impressive display stand which lists all the car's major modifications.

In summary, this '69 Super Sport represents creative engineering at its very finest, combining stunning design and execution with no-excuses, no-limits performance. Put it on a pedestal and stare at it… Take it to the local cruise… Take it on the Hot Rod Power Tour… Whatever you elect to do with this cool Camaro, it is sure to be the centerpiece of your collection, the focal point of your garage, and, most importantly, the car you most look forward to driving and being seen in!
