The beneficiary of a highly detailed frame-off restoration that was completed literally days ago by Thornhill Restorations in Mooresville, North Carolina, this virtually new 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T's refurbished panels and correct Chrysler code EV2 Hemi Orange paint are as crisp as a fall morning at the local drag strip. The car's top notch rebuild began with a super clean body which was stripped, sanded and massaged to better than showroom condition. Once that clean body was correctly aligned, and its intimidating slab-sided ambiance was fully reconstructed, a slick coat of two-stage urethane was expertly applied under a traditional, flat black hood stripe. When that orange and black paint had fully cured, correct black R/T decals were added as a cool finishing touch, and every inch of the clearcoat was buffed to the incredible shine you see here. The result is a spectacular looking pavement pounder which features ultra-straight panels and elicits comments and stares every time it hits the road!

Wearing lines that originated on Chrysler designer Carl Cameron's famous Charger turbine concept car, this classic Challenger makes a bold and distinctly Mopar styling statement from virtually every angle. At the front of the car, a tough looking body-width grille hangs a showroom fresh “Challenger R/T” emblem between four pristine headlights, clear round parking lights and a mirror-like chrome bumper. At the top of the car an R/T specific hood, which is complete with two small scoops, two pristine “383 Magnum” emblems, a flat black center section and a bright “Dodge” script, rides in front of like-new glass that is framed by pristine stainless trim and a black vinyl top. At the sides of the car prominent fender lines, which are complemented by new stainless wheel well trim, flush fitting satin door handles and body-matched sport mirrors, ride under spotless “Challenger” fender scripts and fresh black “R/T” stripes. And at the back of the car, a flat black rear valence hangs body-width, “Dodge” branded tail lights between a trunk mounted “Challenger R/T” emblem, a second pristine chrome bumper and correct, quad outlet stainless exhaust tips. With its broad shouldered styling and killer visual appeal, no one is going to argue that this impressive old Challenger isn't a full-blooded American muscle car!

Lift the car's long, freshly finished hood and you'll find a correct 383 cubic inch Magnum V8 which was completely rebuilt and fully detailed during the extensive frame-off restoration. At the top of that 335 horsepower mill a dual snorkel air cleaner, which is complete with fresh organisol paint and a bold “383 Magnum” topper, sends air into a chrome Magneti Marelli Weber carburetor that's fueled by fresh stainless fuel lines. Below that carburetor glossy, high-temp Hemi Orange coats the outside of the block from its pristine valve covers to its dent-free oil pan; and in front of that carburetor, a new points distributor shoots fire to the inside of the block through new Chrysler Corporation Electronic Suppression wires. Spent gases are handled by factory replacement exhaust manifolds which roar into throaty true dual pipes that are complete with dual chamber mufflers. And cooling is provided by a correct heavy duty radiator which circulates a steady flow of water around a correct belt driven fan via reproduction Chrysler hoses. At the front of the engine, fresh V-belts spin a familiar alternator next to a rebuilt power steering pump; and at the back of the engine, a fresh brake booster hangs a rebuilt master cylinder next to a brand new wiper motor. The car's glossy Chrysler EV2 Hemi Orange engine bay is exceptionally clean and has been nicely detailed with a correct Chrysler Voltage Regulator, rebuilt dual horns, a fresh washer fluid container and a full set of decals, tags and stamps. And, with a little help from a new reproduction Mopar yellow top battery, the great sounding big block springs to life and settles into a rumbling high-performance idle, hot or cold. Yes, this is one slick Mopar! And it definitely has the kind of engine compartment you'll want to show off every time you park the car!

By 1970, most street racers knew an automatic transmission wasn't necessarily a performance handicap. But traditionalists did, and always will, love the feel of rowing through the big block's power band on their own. That's probably why this car's A727 Torqueflite 3-speed auto was quickly replaced with a tough A833 18 spline 4-speed manual. In front of that rebuilt transmission, a fully restored factory double A-arm suspension makes good use of correct power steering. Behind that rebuilt transmission, a familiar 8.75 Sure Grip rear end utilizes steep 3.55 gears to throw the power to the pavement with authority. And at the sides of that rebuilt transmission, fresh four wheel power drum brakes provide solid and reliable stops. As with the body of the car, 'clean' is the name of the game down below. Bright Hemi Orange paint covers the spotless floors, frame and inner fenders, the black and silver suspension and driveline components are literally paint booth fresh; and a new stainless fuel tank, new stainless fuel and brake lines and new stainless hardware ensure years of safe and carefree cruising. At the center of those floors, an aluminized and mandrel bent true dual exhaust system sends spent gases through dual chamber turbo mufflers to great sounding resonators and correct bright stainless tips. And at the edges of those floors, all this Mopar goodness rolls on a traditional set of 14 inch Chrysler Rallye wheels which spin 205/70 Coker Classic redlines around brand new center caps and satin finished trim rings.

Take a seat inside this great looking Challenger R/T and you'll find a nicely restored black vinyl interior that's detailed with both tasteful wood accents and bright stainless trim. The first thing you'll notice is the car's high quality bucket seats which feature comfortable pleats on top of straight frames and what feels like new foam. The second thing you'll notice is new black carpet which is protected by cool “Challenger R/T” branded floor mats. And the third thing you'll notice is the correct optional console which wraps a retrofitted Hurst pistol grip shifter in what seems like a mile of fade-free wood surfacing. At the sides of the car, correct full door panels hang new chrome door handles, cool chrome lock tabs and small round speakers between four chrome window cranks. At the front of the car, more fade-free wood frames a correct Rally instrument cluster, that's complete with a standard tachometer, a 150 MPH speedometer and a continuous motion electric clock, above an optional AM/FM radio. At the back of the car, a new black convertible cowl snaps over a fully restored trunk which is complete with correct decals, a new mat and a space saver spare tire and inflator kit. And in front of the driver, a wood rimmed three-spoke steering wheel mixes a whole lot of form with a whole lot of function.
