Description

Carroll Shelby spent most of his life creating a well-deserved reputation for track proven cars with serious performance, major horsepower, and record setting speed. Even at the fiery age of 89 years old he was STILL inspiring dedicated manufacturers to push their performance to the point of borderline unbelievable. And recently, after many years apart, Ford and Shelby renewed their partnership by debuting the 500 horsepower Shelby GT500. Number 1,672 of only 2,252 GT500s produced for the 2007 model year, this awesome Mustang is an immaculately maintained one-owner car that's seen a few light modifications and very little road time. If you've been aching for a cool modern classic that you can actually drive and enjoy, this professionally massaged coupe, with its buff powertrain, race-ready suspension and all-business color combination, is just what the doctor ordered!

With only 31,088 clicks on its digital odometer, this tweaked 2007 Mustang is barely past the break-in stage. Its factory window sticker, which is included with the sale, lists the following options and standard equipment:

Thanks to exceptionally low mileage and impeccable maintenance, this factory fresh GT500 is essentially brand new in every way. The guys at Ford's Flat Rock facility must've known people spending more than $40,000 on a new car expect a different level of fit and finish; and with this top-of-the-line coupe, they certainly delivered. There's absolutely nothing on the car's showroom stock body that could be considered anything more than shelf wear. Its classic Performance White urethane is glossy and smooth enough to be fresh out of the paint shop. Its Shelby Blue stripes are so clean and straight you'd think they're interwoven behind the body's hard parts. And overall, the car's a super slick speed machine which conveys both timeless curb appeal and a premium sense of drivability!

It's hard to argue with the killer good looks of Ford's fifth generation Mustang; and when Ford's Special Vehicle Team bolts up a few of their hottest styling enhancements, the car's visual impact hits a whole new level! Up front, a redesigned bumper cover hangs a GT500-exclusive grille between a GT500-exclusive hood, familiar black bucket headlights, halogen fog lamps and a racing-style air splitter. At the sides of the car, clean white fenders hang prominent Cobra emblems and fade-free “GT500” tape stripes between color-keyed mirrors and factory black rocker panels. At the top of the car, a pristine factory greenhouse hangs aftermarket tint behind small Evolution Performance stickers that hint at the car's true nature. And out back, a factory decklid hangs a large spoiler over a bold “SHELBY” script, a GT500-exclusive faux fuel filler, and a second racing-style air splitter that's complete with stainless Ford Racing exhaust tips.

Ford's reborn GT500 celebrated one of the most successful partnerships in performance car history; and thanks to some mild tweaks by Evolution Performance, this Mustang holds nothing back on its way to a dyno-proven 582 rear wheel horsepower! Take a look under the lightweight aluminum hood and you'll find a blown V8 mod motor that was heavily influenced by Ford's own GT super car. Utilizing an iron block with a forged steel crank, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, aluminum heads and dual overhead camshafts, this rowdy 5.4 liter torque monster makes great muscle car sounds while providing surprising efficiency and a docile nature. Twist the key and new TR6 spark plugs pulse to life, sending a symphony of baritone notes down a 2.5-inch exhaust that's fitted with an X-pipe and dual tips. Goose the throttle and an Eaton M122 supercharger, which has been fitted with a 2.6 inch pulley, combines with an SCT scan and a new idler pulley to zing the engine towards redline. Aesthetically, the car's spotless bay looks assembly line fresh not featuring any of the flash you'd expect for such a pedigreed car, and appearing, dare I say, a bit like a sleeper. But to anyone who knows anything about performance, the big blower at the top of the block, the JLT cold air intake and the silver SVT trinkets are all dead giveaways that they're in the presence of something special. Honestly, it's so clean under here that I'd venture to say most of this mighty 5.4 liter's parts have never even seen a wrench!

Straight from Dearborn, the D2C Mustang platform is a very capable foundation; and with a few upgrades from Evolution performance, it becomes a true force to be reckoned with! Up front, a Macpherson strut independent suspension makes good use of EVO adjustable upper control arms, EVO billet lower control arms, speed assisted power steering and giant 14 inch discs that are clamped by four piston Brembo calipers. And out back, a three link solid axle rear end makes good use of an EVO adjustable panhard bar, an EVO GT500 panhard bar brace, sporty but efficient 3.31 gears and two piston factory calipers which clamp equally impressive 12 inch discs. That tight suspension is aided by a three point torque box brace, a Ford Racing brake cooling kit, a standard antilock system, and standard traction control; all of which are very welcome if you push the car anywhere near its limits. Spent gases are whisked away by a factory true dual exhaust system which breathes through Ford Racing axle-back pipes. Sending the engines power to the ground is a slick shifting Tremec 6-speed transmission which spins torque past a GT500 driveshaft hoop via a GT500 single speed driveshaft. And all this proven hardware rides on an awesome set of 18 inch machined SVT wheels which spin super sticky 255/45 front and 285/40 rear Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar radials around standard chrome lug nuts.

Inside this Mustang you'll find a comfortable and stylish cockpit that's ready for both short stoplight sprints and long road trips. At the center of the car leather-lined, Cobra-branded bucket seats fit like a glove. Inside the dash, an electro luminescent instrument panel, which features Ford's infinitely variable MyColor accent lighting, rides behind attractive factory trim that's complete with a Carroll Shelby commemorative plaque. Below that dash, a red-stitched Steeda GT400 shifter looks perfect between a padded console and a powerful Shaker 500 audio and DVD-based navigation system. And at the floor like-new carpet, which is protected by Cobra branded floor mats, stretches between slick Shelby sill plates. Behind the cockpit, a factory finished trunk features ample storage space for a pretty impressive amount of luggage. In front of the driver, a factory steering wheel spins a red-stitched leather rim and redundant radio controls around a Cobra-branded horn button. And naturally, all the amenities and convenience features you've come to expect in a modern classic are present and accounted for including climate control, cruise control and full power accessories.

Documentation for this modern Shelby includes the car's original window sticker, its Shelby certificate of authenticity, receipts for its maintenance and upgrades, an official Evolution Performance dyno sheet, and an SCT tuner CD.

When the GT500 was introduced at the New York Auto Show in January of 2007, everyone knew it would be an instant collectable and a serious threat on the streets. This first-year coupe, with its subtle good looks, amazing driving characteristics and awesome speed, will have even Viper drivers checking their rear-view mirrors. Authenticity, pedigree, and race bred performance are what make vintage Shelby's blue chip collectables today; and in the future those same virtues will make cars like this GT500 just as collectible!
