Description

Shoving a smallblock Chevrolet engine into a light weight, basic purpose car is a trend that began in the 50s and is practiced to this day. In fact, some of the most interesting and well done cars in the hobby still follow this simple formula. Originally designed as a budget commuter car, the Chevrolet Nova could be carefully optioned and upgraded into a compact street rocket with few equals. This very clean 1967 Nova SS hardtop is powered by a GM Performance Parts 383 stroker and is the perfect partner for summertime driving, hooliganism or some combination of the two.

Built on a solid foundation, this broad shouldered little car has power in spades and a unique style that will draw attention at any show you attend. Painted in Sierra Fawn Gold, it features flat finished SS style stripes and doesn't have any of the typical bright graphics or bright paint that seems to be a Nova hallmark. The handsome sharp-edged lines of the Nova were typical 60s conservative, and because they were so appealing to look at and so specific in nature, they've become very popular. Straight panels are a must with these squared off bodies and this Nova is clean and professionally built featuring great panel gaps and very well done body work. The front of the car is characterized by a body width chrome bumper that is in excellent shape and houses great looking marker lights. Above the bumper, clear headlights sit at the peaked corners of a1967 Nova SS specific black anodized grille that houses a pristine “Chevy II” emblem. The square side panels are accentuated by good looking full length stainless trim and Nova SS specific 'wide' rocker panel molding that is dent free and still shines well. Behind the tires on the front fenders, the Chevrolet cross flag emblems display red, white and blue and deceptively announce the presence of a 327. On the rear fenders “Nova Chevy II” emblems ride above the full length trim and feature a red pin stripe inlay. Out back a full width chrome bumper is show ready and split tail lights look factory straight. The trunk valence features the cars original 1967 Nova exclusive 'cross hatch' trim piece which has a great looking “Chevy II” emblem attached to its right side. The glass is in good condition throughout and the stainless around that glass is shiny and perfectly complements the silver pin stripe border around the SS stripes. Chrome bowtie mirrors and door handles look great and add detail while four 15 inch silver Rallye wheels featuring stainless trim rings and spinner style center caps, stamped with Chevrolet script and cross flags, ride on 195/65/15 front and 245/60/15 rear BF Goodrich radials.

Under the hood of this car a GM Performance Parts 383 stroker motor ensures that this is no longer a mere commuter and proves that smile size is directly proportional to how far down you push the pedal. This 3,500 mile motor is fed by a four barrel carburetor that resides under a chrome air cleaner with a body matched lid. That carburetor and air cleaner feed fuel and air into a Chevrolet aluminum intake, complete with the prerequisite chrome thermostat housing. That aluminum intake sits between GM Performance Parts aluminum heads with body matched valve covers and polished breather caps. Below those aluminum heads, Hooker headers send exhaust from the GM Performance Parts block into a true dual system that is equipped with Flowmaster mufflers. Behind the air cleaner, an HEI ignition sends sparks through Moroso wires and beside the air cleaner, stainless steel fuel lines run through a Mr. Gasket fuel pressure gauge into the carburetor. On the left of the block is a brake booster with body matched master cylinder cover. In front of the block is a stainless flex fan that spins right behind a correct radiator. The engine bay is as clean and tidy as the rest of the car; it's painted satin black to match the 383 block, includes correct hood insulation and has fresh hoses and fresh belts all around.

Underneath the car, an extremely clean chassis suggests a recent restoration, or at the very least a car that has seen minimal road time since its restoration. The floors are trouble free and solid and the frame is rust free and bolted together with stainless hardware. A 6-speed manual transmission backs up the GM Performance Parts 383 stroker with the help of a hydraulic clutch. Power runs from that transmission through a fresh looking driveshaft to a familiar GM 10 bolt rear end. Up front, power disc brakes with new brake hoses ensure that this Nova stops as well as it goes and Global West tubular upper and lower control arms provide modern handling characteristics. Out back, monoleaf springs provide a smooth ride and stop just short of a new fuel tank while correct power drum brakes aid in stopping. Dual exhaust is, of course, part of the package and flows from Hooker headers into Flowmaster (what appears to be 40 series) mufflers and out of turn downs just before the rear axle.

The nicely finished interior of this Nova has been restored to its original color combination with custom components and custom materials. Fawn Ultraleather upholstery covers the seats and has just enough break-in time to feel every bit as good as it looks. The correct dash is painted Sierra Fawn to match the body and is topped by a contrasting dash pad that hasn't cracked or warped due to an overabundance of sun worship. In front of the driver, an aftermarket gauge pod is color matched to the vertical silver panels on the middle and passenger's side of the dash and houses TPI Tech gauges with the usual assortment of speedometer, tachometer, fuel level, water temperature, oil pressure and voltage gauges. In the middle of the dash, a finished storage cubby occupies where this cars radio would be, had it not been purchased with the radio delete option. Below that cubby and below the right and left sides of the dash, simple but attractive chrome trimmed vents for the heat and air conditioning system match the squared off styling of the cars outside panels. The custom console, which house the shifter for the 6-speed manual, travels from the dash to the rear bench seat and is color matched to the dash pad and carpet. The door panels are correct to the car and, with their bright trim and emblems, are probably some of the most intricate and impressive panels to come out of GM during the 60s. Finally, the centerpiece of the interior is an optional GM Rallye steering wheel with a wood rim and satin finished aluminum spokes accented by a red, white and blue Chevrolet emblem. In the trunk you'll find the correct spatter finish paint, a new mat and a correct spare tire.

Documentation for this car includes the cars original owner's manual, the cars original warranty book and the cars original protect-o-plate.

The workmanship throughout this car is excellent, and you can show it with pride just about anywhere. Nova fans will appreciate its basic goodness and you'll appreciate its tough sound and fast ride. Clean paint, a custom interior and awesome mechanicals; what more could you want in a classic street machine? Call today!
